61. The octopus is too big for you to handle!

After finishing his casual conversation with Sha Zhu, Yan Bugui turned to look at Wang Dabao.

"Da Bao, I'm not trying to be mean, but you were reckless this time. You should have listened to my opinion first!"

"Shazhu is absolutely right. Not to mention the last ten years, even fifteen or twenty years ago, no big fish have come out of Shichahai. The people are living a hard life, relying entirely on fishing to cook their meals. It's no wonder there are no big fish here."

Yan Bugui shook his head and berated Wang Dabao, giving off a feeling of getting the better deal but acting innocent.

"Old Yan, I've discovered that you're a bad person. For a pack of cigarettes that costs two cents, you didn't even stop me from lighting it. You just watched me jump into the pit that Sha Zhu dug."

Wang Dabao pursed his lips and shook his head, "Looks like our brotherhood has pretty much reached its end!"

Upon hearing this, Yan Bugui immediately panicked.

Ever since he met Wang Dabao, his luck has been soaring.

Just a couple of days ago, I made over two hundred yuan from Liu Haizhong. Although I gave half to Wang Dabao, I still got over a hundred yuan myself. That was a real, solid hundred yuan!

"No, Da Bao, I didn't have time to stop you then."

Yan Bugui's small eyes rolled around. "How about I go talk to Sha Zhu and let's call off this bet? All the anglers in Beijing know that there are no fish over ten pounds in Shichahai. How can you bet like this? This is just taking advantage of your lack of fishing skills."

Wang Dabao glanced at Sha Zhu, who was beaming with joy, not far away, and then looked at Yan Bugui, who had a bitter look on his face: "Do you think Sha Zhu would let go of the opportunity to trick me?"

"It will probably be difficult."

Yan Bugui slowly shook his head, "Shazhu is a bit stubborn. He takes male thieves very seriously, but if a woman goes up to him and says a few sweet words, he'll immediately forget who his grandmother is."

"That settles it."

Wang Dabao chuckled, then looked at Yan Bugui seriously and said, "Old Yan, Shichahai is so big, do you think there aren't any fish weighing over ten pounds?"

Yan Bugui frowned, thought for two seconds, and nodded: "There should be, but no one has seen them all these years. Da Bao, don't be discouraged, you might not lose this bet."

“I think so too.” Wang Dabao nodded in agreement. “How about this, let’s share the good fortune. Old Yan, we’ll each take ten of the twenty yuan. If you win, you’ll get ten yuan too.”

"Don't."

Yan Bugui shook his head faster than a rattle drum, "Forget it, Brother Dabao, I don't have your guts!"

Wang Dabao's words startled Yan Bugui. He had won ten yuan, but this was a game he was destined to lose.

Even if you're out of your mind, I can't share this good fortune with you. There are so many other things you could do with ten dollars, why do you have to put it into idiot Zhu's pocket?

Upon hearing Yan Bugui's refusal, Wang Dabao chuckled and directed the large fish to slowly approach, which then sucked on Yan Bugui's hook.

As Yan Bugui was inwardly complaining, he suddenly realized that his float had vanished in a flash, and his old face immediately became quite interesting.

"Oh my god."

In his excitement, Yan Bugui immediately gripped the fishing rod firmly and carefully stood up.

Two seconds later, the float reappeared on the water, standing upright.

Yan Bugui was dumbfounded. What was going on?

He had barely sat down and before he could figure it out, the float disappeared again. But this time, Yan Bugui felt the fish's power transmitted to the fishing rod.

With a whoosh, Yan Bugui stood up again.

Liu Haizhong and Sha Zhu, who were standing nearby, also noticed what was happening and immediately looked over.

Splash! Splash!

Under their watchful eyes, the water stirred, ripples spreading outwards, and then a dark, foot-long fish spine appeared before them.

Immediately afterwards, a huge fish tail slammed into the water.

Holy crap!

After uttering a curse, Sha Zhu rushed over in two quick steps.

Liu Haizhong was no exception; he threw down his fishing rod, ready to help Yan Bugui.

The commotion attracted a lot of attention. When everyone saw the huge fish tail, they were all stunned, and many people even ran over to watch.

Just looking at the tail, this fish must weigh more than ten kilograms. When did such a big fish appear in Shichahai? It's enough to shock the fishing community in Beijing for three whole years.

"My God, I've been fishing in Shichahai for over ten years and I've never seen such a big fish." The old man to Wang Dabao's left also ran over, shocked.

"What a big fish! This could be a giant!"

“I was far away just now, but I still saw the fish’s spine. The fish was at least half a meter long.”

"Yes, yes, even though we haven't seen the whole thing yet, just looking at the tail tells us that this fish is definitely not small."

The splashing sound on the water resumed.

Yan Bugui gripped the fishing rod tightly, feeling the big fish struggling in the water. Hearing the discussions around him, his heart churned and his face flushed red.

How big must that fish be? It's all meat!

Fish in the market costs 40 cents a pound, but this big fish is different. The meat of this kind of fish is more expensive than pork, probably reaching 1.2 yuan a pound.

Before the fish even reached the shore, Yan Bugui was already dreaming of getting rich.

"Old Yan, hold on, I'm here to help you."

Liu Haizhong picked up the landing net and shouted softly to the side, as if shouting loudly would cause the fish to escape from the hook.

Sha Zhu's eyelids twitched a little. Judging from the fish's spine and tail, he could tell that the fish weighed more than ten pounds. What bad luck he had run into! No big fish had appeared in Shichahai for more than ten years, but it happened right when he made a bet with Wang Dabao. Where could he go to complain about this?

The surrounding anglers gathered around Yan Bugui, some ready to help him, others just watching the spectacle and planning to brag about it to their friends later.
