Chapter 11 Da Bao is a loyal friend.

But his strength is only relative to that of an ordinary person.

Wang Dabao wasn't going to let him get away with it. He dodged Liu Haizhong's punch by shifting his body to the side, and then twisted his waist to throw a punch at Liu Haizhong's armpit.

Liu Haizhong stumbled back a few steps, his face deathly pale, and then collapsed to the ground with a thud.

Yi Zhonghai's anger soared, and he wanted to rush up and argue with Wang Dabao, but he held back in the end. If he were to get slapped again, he would lose all face, and the prestige he had built up over the years would vanish in an instant.

He could only erupt in impotent rage: "How can you be so unreasonable, hitting people for no reason?"

"I slapped you to teach you a lesson."

Wang Dabao stepped forward, his body radiating murderous intent, and pointed at Yi Zhonghai, "Who do you think you are, daring to call me 'Grandpa' right off the bat? My Grandpa is a martyr who sacrificed his life in the battle to liberate the country. And what are you?!"

Turning to look at Liu Haizhong, who was still dazed on the ground, he said, "My second uncle crossed the Yalu River and fought against the Americans. He sacrificed his life in the icy snow of a foreign land. How dare you call yourself my second uncle!"

"No, no, Comrade Wang Dabao, you've misunderstood us."

Yi Zhonghai shuddered. Today, he received a notice from the neighborhood office that a family member of a martyr, who was also a wounded veteran, would be moving into the compound. At that moment, he thought of Wang Zhen's nephew.

Good heavens, it turns out their whole family were martyrs.

If it were just his status as a veteran, he could use his status as an old man to keep his reputation in check. But with a family full of martyrs, who would dare to touch them? If anything happened, the neighborhood committee would be the first to object.

Yi Zhonghai's anger immediately subsided.

He hurriedly stepped forward to explain: "Comrade Wang Dabao, you've misunderstood. Lao Liu and I didn't mean to take advantage of you. We are three... managers appointed by the street office, not the kind of managers you're thinking of."

"Smack."

Wang Dabao slapped Yi Zhonghai hard across the face again, leaving him completely bewildered. "Go to hell! You dare to act like a big shot here with me? Are you insulting a martyr?"

"The old man appointed by the neighborhood committee?"

“I’ll call Director Wang from the neighborhood committee over in a bit and ask him who gave you the right to act like bullies in the compound, using your status as elders to oppress the families of martyrs.”

Wang Dabao got more and more excited as he spoke, poking Yi Zhonghai's forehead with his finger, "We're all revolutionary comrades, how come you're so much better than us, how come you act like big shots?"

Wang Dabao used considerable force, causing Yi Zhonghai to stumble and fall several times as he kept retreating.

But he really didn't dare to refute Wang Dabao's words. Usually, he was the one giving others the hat, but this time he was the one wearing the hat. He was truly suffering in silence.

Before Liu Haizhong could even get up from the ground, he realized that things were going in a bad direction and that things might escalate.

Yan Bugui blinked his small eyes, feeling incredibly nervous. Luckily, when he asked Wang Dabao to call him "Third Uncle," Wang Dabao didn't react so strongly. It seemed he would have to change his form of address in the future; his small frame couldn't withstand a good slap from the other man.

"Hey kid, what the hell are you doing?"

"You dare to lay a hand on an old man like that? I'll cripple you!"

A loud shout rang out, followed by a figure rushing into the backyard from outside.

The attacker's momentum didn't wane; a flying kick was aimed straight at Wang Dabao's chest.

Wang Dabao recognized the voice as that of Sha Zhu, who was returning from get off work. He had probably been eavesdropping at the backyard entrance for a while, and now that Qin Huairu was there, he was trying to show off his toughness and, under the pretext of standing up for Yi Zhonghai, to get revenge for being beaten and forced to pay compensation yesterday.

It's a pity that the number one sycophant in the compound had such a small scheme. How could Wang Dabao let him show off like that?

Moreover, he's putting on airs by stepping on himself.

Wang Dabao swiftly pulled Yi Zhonghai back to his original position.

When Yi Zhonghai learned that Wang Dabao's entire family were martyrs, he was filled with remorse. He had thought that Wang Dabao was just Wang Zhen's nephew, a retired soldier, but who knew that his background was so profound.

They went into battle completely unprepared, armed only with toy guns.

The sudden appearance of Sha Zhu terrified Yi Zhonghai and Liu Haizhong.

If Wang Dabao gets seriously injured, even if Sha Zhu isn't dragged out and executed, he'll still have to spend a few years in jail, and those other managers won't have an easy time either.

Just as he was about to speak up to stop him, Yi Zhonghai realized that Wang Dabao was gone. Then a dark shadow crashed into him, followed by a sharp pain in his chest, and he was sent flying.

Sha Zhu put a lot of force into that kick, sending Yi Zhonghai flying three or four meters away.

With a thud, Sha Zhu also fell to the ground. Ignoring the pain, Sha Zhu scrambled over to Yi Zhonghai, saying, "Uncle, how are you? You can't be hurt!"

Yi Zhonghai's face was contorted in pain, one hand clutching his chest and the other trembling as he pointed at Sha Zhu.

The people in the backyard were dumbfounded. It all happened so fast that they didn't even see how Yi Zhonghai flew out.

However, considering Sha Zhu's earlier shout and the flying kick, it's clear that Sha Zhu kicked Yi Zhonghai away.

"It's all because of this little brat! You wait, old man, I'll get revenge for you."

Sha Zhu, with his old and ugly face covered in fat, turned to look at Wang Dabao and said, "Damn it, you little brat, I'm going to teach you a lesson today."

Xu Damao felt like he couldn't take it all in. He kept glancing at Wang Dabao, then at Yi Zhonghai, and now his gaze was fixed on Sha Zhu. He was so excited that his horse-like face kept changing expressions.

"Shazhu, this is a new kid in the compound, you can't bully him."

Xu Damao egged them on from the side.

Sha Zhu didn't even glance at Xu Damao before getting up and lunging at Wang Dabao.

Wang Dabao leaped forward and quickly kicked Sha Zhu, who immediately clutched his stomach and knelt on the ground.

Seeing that he couldn't miss the opportunity, Xu Damao ran up to Shazhu and said, "Shazhu, I'm not trying to be mean, but it's not a holiday and I don't have any lucky money for you."

"Xu Damao, I'll fuck your grandpa..."

Sha Zhu's face flushed red with pain. He knelt on the ground, his body half-leaning, one shoulder on the ground, glaring at Xu Damao with resentment.

At this moment, Yi Zhonghai had already been helped up by Yan Bugui and Liu Haizhong.

It was well past closing time, and many neighbors came to the backyard after hearing the commotion.

The three women pulled Yan Bugui aside and asked him what had happened.

"Hey, it's because Lao Yi and Lao Liu were calling Wang Dabao 'Grandpa,' but who knew that Grandpa was a martyr? Wang Dabao thought Lao Yi and Lao Liu were insulting him, so he got beaten up."

"Then how come you're alright?"

The third aunt looked nervous as she sized up the third uncle, Yan Bugui.

Yan Bugui straightened up. "Dabao may be a bit of a scoundrel, but he still has a sense of loyalty. We've known each other for a day, so he can't bring himself to hurt me."
