Sha Zhu is conflicted. On the one hand, he can't bear to see Qin Huairu cry, but on the other hand, he feels that he can't keep giving in to her like this.
If things continue like this, when will he ever be able to eat meat again? No matter how Yi Zhonghai explained it to Qin Huairu, he still had a knot in his heart.
One moment he thought Yi Zhonghai might have already gotten his hands on Qin Huairu, the next he felt something was off, since the two of them had made such a solemn oath, so they probably hadn't had that kind of relationship yet.
But he couldn't care less. Just because Yi Zhonghai had eaten, did that mean Sha Zhu couldn't have another bite?
This meat originally belonged to Jia Dongxu, but the man surnamed Jia was not fortunate enough to enjoy it, so it ended up benefiting someone else.
He, Sha Zhu, had been eyeing her for more than a year or two; he couldn't let Qin Huairu slip through his fingers after a few tears.
"Sister Qin, please don't cry. I really can't bear to see you cry."
As Sha Zhu spoke, he wrapped his left arm around Qin Huairu's clothes and slipped his right hand under the gap, quickly finding the right spot to hold her hand.
"ah!!!"
Qin Huairu cried out in surprise, then covered her mouth with her hand, looking at Sha Zhu beside her in disbelief.
She never imagined that Sha Zhu would be so bold.
"Zhu Zi, don't do this. Let go of Sister Qin. It will be bad if someone comes. Sister Qin just regained her reputation in the courtyard. What if something happens to her?"
Qin Huairu lowered her voice and pleaded desperately. She did want to give Sha Zhu a little something, but not this kind of thing!
At most, Sha Zhu would just pat her butt through her pants, but now Sha Zhu actually put his hand inside. Isn't this going to kill her? Jia Dongxu has been dead for almost two months, and she's having a hard time too.
Sha Zhu was truly satisfied.
He had been thinking about this moment for ten years. Ten years! Who could understand how he had spent those ten years?
Now my wish has finally come true. No, not quite. There's still a long way to go. This is just the first step.
Thinking this to himself, Sha Zhu tightened his grip...
"Zhu Zi, are you home?"
Aunt Yi's voice came from outside the door.
This startled the two people inside. Qin Huairu had only left the door ajar when she entered; she hadn't locked it, so Aunt Yi could have easily pushed it open and come in.
Qin Huairu turned pale with fright, and Sha Zhu quickly pulled his hand away.
The two were somewhat at a loss, but Aunt Yi's voice continued: "Zhu Zi, are you home? Why isn't the door locked?"
"Auntie Yi... um, please don't come in yet. I... I'm not wearing any clothes. I boiled some water to wash myself." As soon as Sha Zhu finished speaking, his back was covered in sweat, and his vest was soaked through.
Qin Huairu quickly got up, stood up from the bed, hurriedly straightened her clothes, and then, in her panic, tried to find a place to hide.
But where could Sha Zhu hide? Anyone who came in would see him.
"She's taking a bath? Okay, Zhu Zi, you go ahead and take a bath. I'll come over later." As Aunt Yi's footsteps faded into the distance, Sha Zhu and Qin Huairu breathed a sigh of relief.
Qin Huairu bit her lip. "Zhuzi, I have to go back now."
Qin Huairu really didn't want to stay here anymore. The danger she felt just now was no better than what happened in the vegetable cellar that day. And now Sha Zhu had gotten the benefit. She could only ask Sha Zhu for help next time.
The most important thing right now is to take the groceries home.
Sha Zhu hadn't recovered yet and didn't understand Qin Huairu's implied meaning. He just sat on the bed and nodded blankly.
Qin Huairu rolled her eyes in annoyance: "Zhuzi, why don't you bring some vegetables for Sister Qin?"
"Oh right, I almost forgot about that."
Sha Zhu hurriedly got up and took the lunchbox down from the cabinet by the window. He was dumbfounded when he saw the huge bowl that Qin Huairu was holding. Even if he put everything in it, it wouldn't be enough.
Qin Huairu saw through Sha Zhu's thoughts and hurriedly said, "Zhu Zi, just give me half."
Sha Zhu opened the lunchbox and started picking out the food while making "uh-huh" noises. Qin Huairu wanted half, and Sha Zhu actually gave her half.
Hearing the noise outside the door, and peeking through the curtain at the window, Qin Huairu, seeing no one around, told Sha Zhu and hurriedly went home.
Sha Zhu wasn't much better off than Qin Huairu.
If Aunt Yi were to witness this, the whole courtyard would know, and Sha Zhu would be in big trouble.
Now nobody's going to introduce him to anyone. If he gets involved with a widow and everyone starts gossiping about him, he'll definitely have a bad reputation in the neighborhood, and he'll be stuck a bachelor for life.
Sha Zhu gritted his teeth, but he couldn't bear to let Qin Huairu go. What should he do?
Especially after tasting a bit of sweetness, the feeling was absolutely wonderful.
Sha Zhu paced around the room, he really needed to come up with a solution!
Qin Huairu's heart was pounding; she felt like it was going to jump out of her throat every few steps she took.
Fortunately, it was almost lunchtime and no one was in the yard. A few men were chatting in the front yard, while the women were busy cooking at home.
Only after stepping into her home did Qin Huairu finally feel relieved.
"Where did you go?"
Jia Zhangshi's voice rang out from behind, startling Qin Huairu so much that the hairs on her body almost stood on end.
"Mom, when did you get back? There wasn't a sound at all."
Qin Huairu patted her chest, her face still showing signs of shock.
"I just went to deliver two shoe soles and I've been back for ages. But why were you gone for so long? And what did you bring back? It smells so good." Although Jia Zhangshi was angry, she couldn't help but ask because of the aroma.
"I ran into Sha Zhu when I went to buy soy sauce. He was cooking for someone today and brought back some vegetables. We were saying we'd get some meat for the kids, so I went over and grabbed some," Qin Huairu explained, trying to remain calm. "We also chatted about work for a while, and the area I cleaned wasn't up to standard."
