Sha Zhu was so angry he went mad; Qin Huairu and Qin Jingru were no match for him.
One is a widowed mother of three, the other is an unmarried girl. Even if Sha Zhu were truly an idiot, he would know which to choose.
He had already decided that once he and Qin Jingru were together, he would give up on Qin Huairu and wholeheartedly enjoy a peaceful life with his wife, children, and a warm bed. But fate wouldn't give him that chance!
There was no way to stop Xu Damao and Qin Jingru from being together before, and now that they even have a child, trying to break them up is probably futile.
Sha Zhu really wanted to bury himself under the covers and cry his heart out.
Why did it have to be Xu Damao? If it were someone else, he probably wouldn't feel so bad.
If they really get married, where will Sha Zhu put his face? Everyone in the compound will laugh at him for having his wife stolen by Xu Damao. That would be incredibly embarrassing.
Just as Sha Zhu was venting his frustration, Aunt Yi knocked on his door.
"Zhu Zi, Zhu Zi, what are you doing? Are you home?"
Aunt Yi's voice wasn't loud, but it startled Sha Zhu, who quickly wiped away his tears and got up to open the door.
If it weren't for Aunt Yi's kindness to him over the years, he would never have paid any attention to her now, and even if he did, he wouldn't have given her a warm welcome. After all, it was Aunt Yi who ruined his relationship with Qin Huairu last time, otherwise he might have been able to have a taste of romance.
Before opening the door, Sha Zhu wiped his face by the basin, afraid that someone would notice something.
There's no way around it, Sha Zhu is just too proud to admit his mistakes!
"Is this Aunt Yi? Is there something you need?"
Although Sha Zhu's face was still wet with water droplets, Aunt Yi noticed his red eyes and the tears welling up in his bright eyes, and her heart softened immediately.
"Zhu Zi, have you cooked yet? Shall we go eat at Auntie's?"
"No, Aunt Yi, my food is ready, I can just heat it up. Besides, I don't want to see him."
Upon thinking of Yi Zhonghai, Sha Zhujuhua's old face immediately fell.
Aunt Yi knew that the "he" that Sha Zhu was referring to was her husband, and she couldn't help but sigh.
“Your uncle explained it to me. It really was just about Huai Ru’s work. You know the situation in our compound. If the two of them talk for too long in the compound, gossip might spread, and that’s how that thing happened.”
"Your uncle came back from the front yard today looking worried. He talked to me for ages about Xu Damao and Qin Jingru. He was afraid you'd overthink things, so he asked me to come over and invite you over for a meal. I was thinking that if you two had a few drinks, maybe you wouldn't be so suspicious."
Aunt Yi watched Sha Zhu grow up since he was a child. His mother died when he was young, and his father ran away with a widow. Sha Zhu raised his younger sister alone when he was a teenager. This child had a really tough time.
She has no children of her own, but she feels sorry for these two kids from the bottom of her heart, and she often brought them meals in the past few years.
"Zhuzi, listen to your auntie, come over for a meal, just to give your auntie face, okay? Your auntie watched you grow up. When your Uncle Yi came home and told me about this situation, I was worried about you too!"
Sha Zhu isn't an ingrate; otherwise, he wouldn't have been so kind to the deaf old lady.
He really hit Yi Zhonghai, but he would never lay a finger on Yi's mother.
Aunt Yi has helped him and He Yushui so much; it would be really inhuman of him, Sha Zhu, to disrespect her.
Putting everything else aside, just consider the years after his father, He Daqing, fled. If it weren't for Aunt Yi's help, who knows what would have happened to him and his sister? One of them might have starved to death.
Seeing that Sha Zhu was hesitant, Aunt Yi reached out and grabbed Sha Zhu's arm.
“Zhu Zi, you’re still young, you have a long life ahead of you. We don’t need to do anything for a woman. There will be better ones waiting for you in the future. Listen to your aunt, go home and have a drink with your uncle first.”
Sha Zhu's nose tingled, and he lowered his head, saying in a muffled voice, "Aunt Yi, I know you're good to me, but I just feel so wronged."
Aunt Yi grabbed Sha Zhu's hand and pulled him out the door, saying, "Come on, come with me. If you have any grievances, tell your Uncle Yi over the dinner table."
In the end, Sha Zhu still went home with Aunt Yi.
Yi Zhonghai was quite surprised that Sha Zhu came; he thought he would have to invite him two or three times.
Once inside, Yi Zhonghai got up and gestured for Sha Zhu to sit down. He poured him a glass of wine and, after carefully considering his words, said earnestly, "Zhu Zi, I'll swear an oath to you again today. Your aunt is here listening too."
"If I, Yi Zhonghai, have anything to do with Qin Huairu, may my entire family be wiped out!"
"Oh dear, what nonsense are you talking about..." Aunt Yi exclaimed, but before she could finish speaking, Yi Zhonghai waved his hand to interrupt her.
“It’s alright. I’ve done nothing wrong. Why wouldn’t I swear something I didn’t do? Zhu Zi, let me tell you, I’ve always treated Qin Huairu as my apprentice’s wife. Now that Dongxu is gone, it’s only right that I take care of them within my capabilities. I’m the last person in this courtyard who can’t bear to see their family starve to death.”
"But what Jia Zhangshi did was truly disheartening. I blame myself for not seeing people's true nature sooner!"
Sha Zhu was also a bit stunned. Good heavens, Yi Zhonghai really didn't have a son, so he couldn't swear a solemn oath on his descendants, but the other party had even brought up nine generations of his family. How could that not work?!
"No matter what you think, Pillar, I must make you hear this vow."
Yi Zhonghai picked up his wine glass and took a sip. "You're still young, and you're naturally impulsive. I know you too well. That's why I don't blame you at all for fighting with me."
"However, because of Xu Damao and Qin Huairu's matter today, I still have to say something: you can't force matters of the heart. You're still so young, you'll definitely meet someone better in the future."
Sha Zhu's eyes reddened as he listened, but he didn't say anything apologetic. He picked up his glass and drank it all in one gulp.
"Uncle Yi, I'm not reconciled!"
When Yi Zhonghai and his wife heard Sha Zhu call him "Grandpa," they immediately knew that there was hope for them to restore their relationship.
“If it were a few days ago, my son and I could sit down together and think of a solution, but now it’s really too late. Not to mention that they have to arrange the wedding, Qin Jingru is pregnant, so this is going to be difficult.”
Yi Zhonghai was secretly pleased about the breakthrough in his relationship with Sha Zhu, but he still appeared extremely grief-stricken on the surface.
“Zhu Zi, no matter how unwilling we are, the matter has been settled. We don’t want to think about Qin Jingru anymore. Don’t worry, this time your aunt and I will definitely find you someone even better than Qin Jingru.”
"It's not that easy."
Sha Zhu looked distressed, thinking of Liu Yuhua from last time. She was indeed a city resident, but she just couldn't bring herself to eat her.
Yi Zhonghai doesn't care whether Sha Zhu is suffering inside or not; what he cares about is whether the relationship between the two has eased. Now that his goal has been achieved, the next step is to escalate things further.
"Come on, Zhu Zi, let's have a drink together. Maybe we'll find a solution after we finish it."
The two drank one cup after another until the meal was finished, but Yi Zhonghai still couldn't come up with a solution for Sha Zhu.
