Chapter 70 Getting to Know the Work Environment

The young man agreed and jogged out the door.

This young man is clearly a secretary or similar figure to Director Yang.

"Come on, try this tea and see how it tastes."

After brewing the tea and placing it in front of the three, Yang Xinmin turned to Wang Dabao and said, "I've read all of Section Chief Wang's information. Master Wang Zhen kept it a secret from us for a long time. I never imagined that you two, uncle and nephew, were family members of martyrs, and that Section Chief Wang was a combat hero."

“Master Wang Zhen’s compensation has been received. I was just thinking of taking some time these next few days to send it to you. I never expected that we would meet in this way.”

As he spoke, Yang Xinmin returned to his desk, took a large envelope from the drawer, and handed it to Wang Dabao.

"Here is 560 yuan, which is the factory's compensation to Mr. Wang's family."

"Director Yang, thank you for your trouble."

Wang Dabao said a few polite words and accepted the envelope.

Yang Xinmin nodded: "Wang, the section chief of the Political and Duty Section, will come over in a while and she will handle your onboarding procedures. Old Zhao should have already told you about your salary, right? You will still collect it at the police station. However, our factory will provide a subsidy, which is about fourteen or fifteen yuan per month."

Wang Dabao thanked him, and then inevitably exchanged some polite words.

Yang Xinmin was trying to win over Wang Dabao with his words, but his words were too dry, and Wang Dabao couldn't see any benefit in them.

He shook his head inwardly. "You think you can win people over with just words? Are you, Yang Xinmin, being too naive, or are you underestimating Wang Dabao?"

Knowing the plot, Wang Dabao knew that this Factory Director Yang would end up sweeping the streets and would be no match for Deputy Factory Director Li.

A knock on the door interrupted their conversation.

The first person to enter the office was a middle-aged woman in her thirties or forties. She had an oval face, short hair, and was quite young compared to her peers, and also had a great presence.

Next came a middle-aged man with dark skin and a face full of wrinkles; it was impossible to tell his actual age just by looking at his face.

The man exuded a strong, masculine aura. Just as Zheng Jun could tell Wang Dabao was a veteran who had been on the battlefield, Wang Dabao could also tell that the man in front of him was definitely a veteran.

"Section Chief Wang, Section Chief Hu, let me introduce you. This is Comrade Wang Dabao, the new deputy section chief of the security department in our factory."

Yang Xinmin invited the two to sit down, and then instructed Xiao Liu to make tea.

Because of Wang Dabao's resume and other documents, Zhao Mingyuan had already transferred to the factory a week ago. The two of them had already learned about Wang Dabao's appointment from Yang Xinmin, so they were not surprised by his arrival.

"Section Chief Wang is truly young and promising. I believe that with your addition, the security work at the steel rolling mill will have a completely new look."

The speaker was Section Chief Hu from the Security Department. Wang Dabao had heard Director Zhao mention him before. Section Chief Hu was going to retire in a few months, and he didn't seem to care much about his work.

"Section Chief Hu, you flatter me. I will need your guidance and support in the future," Wang Dabao said modestly.

Section Chief Wang from the Political Affairs Section also laughed and said, "Deputy Section Chief Wang, you're probably not married yet, are you?"

Seeing Wang Dabao shake his head, Section Chief Wang continued, "You're concerned about security, but I think our factory's single female comrades are lucky."

Hearing Section Chief Wang's joking remark, everyone burst into laughter.

...

After exchanging pleasantries, Section Chief Wang left with Wang Dabao's documents. Afterward, Wang Dabao only needed to go to the Political and Duty Section to collect his work permit.

Seeing that the work here was almost done, Director Zhao and Instructor Liu said goodbye to Wang Dabao and returned to the station.

Section Chief Hu from the Security Department led Wang Dabao away from Yang Xinmin's office, intending to take a walk around the factory to familiarize him with the environment and explain the work of the Security Department to him.

Section Chief Hu explained in great detail, and it seemed he intended to dump all the work on Wang Dabao.

Hongxing Steel Rolling Mill, a large state-owned enterprise in Beijing, covers hundreds of acres and is divided into four major plant areas: east, south, west, and north.

The East Plant area is the steel rolling workshop, which is arguably the most tiring and arduous place to work. It is a major coal-consuming area. Due to the high temperatures throughout the year, the factory has arranged the employee bathhouse in this area.

The west plant area is the processing workshop, which includes wire drawing workshops, fitter, milling machine operator, lathe operator, equipment workshop, etc.

This area has the most employees, so three large canteens have been set up here for convenience.

The North Plant area is a storage area, containing more than a dozen large warehouses where the plant's coal and steel ingots are stored. The plant's freight station, transportation department, loading and unloading department, and purchasing department are all located in this area.

The security work here is quite demanding. Every day, we have to inspect passing vehicles and train cars, and working overtime is a common occurrence.

The South District is the core area, housing the steel rolling mill's office building, administrative building, security department, and publicity department.

In addition, there are cinemas, hospitals, radio stations, and small canteens for leaders to entertain guests in the South District. Hongxing Primary School is not inside the factory; it is not far from the west gate of the factory.

Wang Dabao couldn't help but marvel that a steel rolling mill was practically a miniature city.

The security department has the largest number of security teams, with four squadrons responsible for the security of the four major factory areas.

The Equipment Section was responsible for managing weapons, and both the Equipment Section and the Firefighting Section were under the jurisdiction of the Security Section.

These days, large state-owned enterprises like steel rolling mills have their own arsenals; it's no exaggeration to say they could even organize a small-scale battle if needed.

Next, Section Chief Hu explained the specific work and regulations of the Security Section to Wang Dabao. "Section Chief Wang, you may not be able to understand all of this at once. You'll get used to it gradually."

"Today is just for you to get familiar with the environment. I'll call them over for a meeting tomorrow when you officially start your job."

After wandering around for a while, the two returned to the government office building and this time went to Wang Dabao's office.

Also on the third floor, there was an office of about 20 square meters, clean and tidy, which looked like it had just been cleaned and tidied up.

Seeing that Wang Dabao was fairly satisfied with the office environment, the two did not linger in the office for long. They went to the Political and Duty Section, picked up their work permits, and then received their uniforms.

After putting the items in his office, Wang Dabao rode his bicycle back to the compound.
