"Old Qian, that bastard Xu Damao is turning his back on us now. Before, he was all over us, calling everyone 'brother,' but now he's giving me attitude." Peng Shitou took a long drag on his cigarette to relieve his frustration.
“Section Chief Peng, he’s a section chief now, his status is different, so we need to adjust our mindset as soon as possible,” Qian Dabao said casually.
"Heh, what a useless section chief. Everyone knows he wanted to go to the General Affairs Section but couldn't, so he was exiled here by the leaders." Peng Shitou didn't care that his people were all from the Transportation Section; in order to undermine Xu Damao's authority, he even insulted his own people.
"Old Qian, we both started out as drivers, so we understand each other's difficulties. I've taken good care of you before, so we should keep in touch in the future."
Peng Shitou revealed his true purpose for today's meeting. He was being targeted by Xu Damao and desperately needed to find an ally, someone who would listen to him. Once he had his own base of support, he would have the leverage to confront Xu Damao.
Why the motorcade? Because although he had been in charge of the work for quite some time, he hadn't gotten the hang of other tasks, so he felt that the motorcade was simple and he could handle it himself.
After chatting for a while, Qian Dabao used the excuse of needing to go out to drive to send Peng Shitou away.
"Damn it, you used to act all high and mighty with me, and now you want to win me over? Keep dreaming. Just wait until I become a deputy section chief and we're on equal footing."
Watching Peng Shitou's departing figure, Qian Dabao spat.
"Today I'm going to visit Xu Damao. Things are different now, I have to be timid when necessary," Qian Dabao muttered to himself.
