Chapter 27

The little girl was petite, her arms wrapped around the man's neck, like a kitten cautiously curled up in his arms, trying to absorb all the warmth.

Her body was so light it felt almost weightless, and her smooth black hair brushed against his neck. Fu Linzheng couldn't see her face, but the scent of green citrus emanating from her body filled his nostrils, igniting a heat within him.

In November in Beijing, the weather was cold and the ground was dark. The lights were off in the large penthouse apartment, and it was pitch black all around. A few scattered neon lights from outside the floor-to-ceiling windows shone in, like the only ice-free port on the vast coastline.

Before Fu Linzheng could react, she hugged him tightly. In an instant, his heart felt like it was hit by a tsunami, with waves crashing into his chest.

He didn't notice anything wrong with her voice.

I thought it would be the same as usual.

"Rong Weiyue..."

Fu Linzheng's Adam's apple bobbed as he called her softly, his heart pounding erratically.

This was the first time she had taken the initiative to approach him since their reunion.

Fu Linzheng's earlobes burned from the friction of her hair; his breathing deepened, he tightened his arms, and feigned composure while teasing her:

"What's wrong? I packed you some delicious food, and you're so touched that you want to throw yourself into my arms?"

Rong Weiyue responded sullenly, remaining motionless, nestled in his arms like a soft little ball of fluff. Fu Linzheng held her tighter, coughing lightly in a lazy voice:

"Sure, hug me if you want. Although I'm a bit shy, I'm pretty generous. It's okay for you to take advantage of me sometimes."

Fu Linzheng turned his eyes away and suppressed the curve of his lips: "Rong Weiyue, anyone with eyes can see how you feel about me now, so there's no need to pretend. If you can't help but want to hug me or want me to hug you next time, just say so. Generally speaking, I will agree."

The man gently rubbed her head, afraid of scaring the little kitten away again, and said to himself in a leisurely tone, "But I value my innocence. An ambiguous identity won't do. If you want to hold me a little longer, you'll have to change your identity, like, my girlfriend or something."

After waiting for a while and seeing that she didn't speak, he paused for a moment and then said, "If you don't want to change your identity, that's fine too. I'm a famous person, and I'll have to charge you for hugging me. Two hundred a minute."

Rong Weiyue immediately withdrew her hand and tried to pull away, but her waist was tightly embraced. Fu Linzheng held her in his arms and asked in a deep, husky voice, "Where are you going?"

Rong Weiyue muttered, "I'm not hugging you anymore. You heartless merchants are ripping off customers."

"..."

Fu Linzheng's dark eyes rolled, and he hugged her even tighter, smirking, "Why did you run away before I finished talking? I'll let you off the hook since you're my roommate, but I'll have to get it back next time. Just consider it an obligation you owe me."

Rong Weiyue said in a muffled voice, "Thank you, Fu Linzheng, you're a good person..."

Fu Linzheng scoffed, "Don't try to give me the 'nice guy' card. Do you think I'm that nice to everyone?"

Rong Weiyue buried her face in his shoulder, her voice low and choked with sobs: "No one has ever been this good to me, never... never again..."

Fu Linzheng was taken aback. He finally noticed that her voice was different from usual, with a clear sob in it. Sensing something was wrong, he immediately lifted her face and saw that the girl's nose was red, her eyes were like the surface of a lake after rain, and there were two tear tracks on her face. He didn't know how long she had been secretly crying, but it stung his eyes.

This was the second time she had shed tears in front of him since their reunion.

Last time, he made her feel unwell because he was driving too fast; this time, he didn't even notice her unusual behavior in time.

Fu Linzheng's eyes widened in surprise, and he frowned. "Why are you crying?"

Meeting his gaze, Rong Weiyue felt like a drifting boat had finally found a safe harbor. A surge of emotion welled up in her nose, and tears streamed down her face.

Fu Linzheng was extremely flustered. "What's wrong?"

Huhu burrowed out of Rong Weiyue's arms, nibbled at his sleeve, and howled at the trash can in the distance, gesturing for her father to look. Fu Linzheng saw what was in the trash can and his eyes darkened: "You've been drinking?"

"No……"

"Where did all those aluminum cans come from?" He bought them to boil water and fish for her, and she drank them all.

Rong Weiyue lowered her head, tears silently rolling down her cheeks. He knew she must have encountered something, and his heart churned with turmoil. He gently stroked the back of her neck and soothed her in a low, hoarse voice:

"It's okay, I'm here, don't cry."

He's here. As long as she's willing to come to him, he'll protect her, do his best to help her solve all her problems, and won't let her suffer any injustice.

Fu Linzheng took out a tissue to wipe her tears and gently coaxed her like a child.

After a while, her tears gradually stopped, and she calmed down considerably. Fu Linzheng asked softly, "What happened?"

Rong Weiyue felt a dryness in her throat, shook her head slightly, and then opened another can of beer, tilting her head back to drink it.

Fu Linzheng couldn't stop her, and remembering that she had said she was going home to celebrate her younger brother's birthday that evening, he frowned and asked, "Did you not have a good time having dinner with your family tonight?"

During high school, Rong Weiyue rarely mentioned her family. Fu Linzheng only knew that her parents were strict with her, that she had an older sister who had passed away due to illness, and that she had a younger brother who was pampered by her parents. Rong Weiyue was not happy at home.

Despite living together for so long, Fu Linzheng had never heard her mention anything about her family, and it seemed she had never been home.

He didn't know what Rong Weiyue's relationship with her family was like after graduating from high school, but it seemed not to be very good, otherwise why would she not accept money from her family and instead go out to work and study?

Beyond that, he had no idea.

He didn't want to investigate privately; he couldn't pry into her privacy without her permission, or she would definitely be angry.

Huhu snuggled into Rong Weiyue's arms again. She rubbed her face against its head, her eyes stinging with tears, and remained silent. Fu Linzheng ruffled her hair and said casually:

"It's okay, you don't have to talk if you don't want to. I'll just sit here and listen if you want to chat. If you don't want to talk, but want me to lean on you or give you a hug, that's fine too."

Rong Weiyue sniffed and said softly, "It's nothing... I'm just in a bad mood tonight, and I suddenly feel... that I'm pretty bad and useless."

Fu Linzheng frowned deeply: "Who told you to spout such nonsense? How are you so bad?"

“Isn’t that right…” she repeated Rong Chengye’s words, “I didn’t go to the Central Academy of Fine Arts for college, and now it’s been so long since I graduated, I haven’t dated, I haven’t gotten married, my studio is just so-so, and I can’t afford my own house…”

Fu Linzheng scoffed: "So what if you didn't go to the Central Academy of Fine Arts? The Sino-American School is also great. You're excellent to begin with; you'll shine wherever you are. Can a school determine a person's future?"

"That old Chen, Professor Chen Rusheng has praised you to me a lot, saying that you are the top student in your department, receive the national scholarship every year, are an outstanding graduate, and have won many awards for your works. Do you know that you are the pride of many teachers?"

He wiped away her tears and said softly, "The economy is bad right now, and countless businesses are going bankrupt. You're so young, yet you've persevered in preserving intangible cultural heritage and made your studio increasingly successful. That's already amazing. Do you think Mingheng, as a philanthropist, would entrust the production of such important TV series props to a small, incompetent company? Your studio is very capable, and its scale will definitely continue to grow. Buying a house in the future is just around the corner. Are you saying you're incompetent just like Versailles?"

She mumbled something.

Fu Linzheng leaned back lazily on the sofa and said casually, "As for marriage and dating, that depends on you. If you're willing... it's an easy thing, no need to wait."

Her eyelashes trembled slightly, and she bit her lip without speaking. Fu Linzheng looked at her, his tone becoming more serious:

“Everyone has difficult times in this world. Take Hu’an, for example. His parents passed away when he was young, and he and his grandmother made a living by collecting scraps. He studied hard and finally got a job in a big company. There are also some of my friends who are working in Beijing. They are often laid off or laid off. Many graduates are still worried about finding a job. People who say you are bad, have they ever experienced success themselves?”

Rong Weiyue, her head spinning from the alcohol, looked at Fu Linzheng and asked, "And you, have you ever experienced this kind of frustration?"

Fu Linzheng, however, was not modest at all: "Me? No, not at all."

"I've been too outstanding since I was a child, and I don't know what failure feels like. Sometimes I feel that my life is quite regrettable."

"..."

Rong Weiyue pouted: "Fu Linzheng, are you trying to comfort me?"

The man smirked, "Just kidding. Who hasn't experienced setbacks on the field?"

He looked her in the eye and said seriously, "Anyway, don't believe those people who say you're bad. There are many paths in life, and there's no standard definition of failure or success. Only you can judge yourself. If you don't like what others say, just let it go, understand?"

Upon hearing this, a surge of warmth welled up in her heart.

From childhood to adulthood, she studied hard and cared a lot about what others thought. She was happy when she received affirmation and felt bad when she received criticism. Every time she finally built up her self-confidence, Rong Chengye would push it down. He told her to be humble and not arrogant, but what she ended up with was inferiority.

She had finally started to feel a little better recently, but she would collapse again as soon as she got home. She really didn't know how to get along with her parents.

Fortunately, Lin Zheng was by her side at this moment.

Just like many moments before, Fu Linzheng always pulled her out of her predicament and rescued her from dire straits.

The man said lazily, "From now on, don't eat the food you don't like, and go to places you don't like. Isn't my place big enough for you to frolic in? The refrigerator is full of delicious food. You can watch movies, practice the piano, or sing. Huhu is waiting for you to come home every day. Your happiness comes first, you know?"

He remembered her saying that her family rarely celebrated her birthday before, but they had the nerve to ask her to go back and celebrate her younger brother's birthday. If it were him, he would have flipped the table long ago.

Rong Weiyue hugged Hu Hu and responded in a lukewarm voice. Fu Linzheng handed her a tissue and said with a smile, "Alright, wipe your tears. He just washed his hair a couple of days ago."

"..."

Rong Weiyue's tears dripped onto its head, making it wet, but the little guy obediently didn't dodge and snuggled into her arms.

She hiccuped, revealing her dimples, and said, "I just got back, and Huhu knew I was in a bad mood, so it stayed with me the whole time. I love it so much, how can it be so cute?"

Fu Linzheng scoffed: "You're being so grateful, even though you've been letting a perfectly healthy person take advantage of you for so long without even noticing."

"..."

She whispered, "You're cute too."

Fu Linzheng chuckled, too lazy to argue with this little drunkard: "Alright, are you hungry? Let's go eat."

She shook her head, her face flushed. Fu Linzheng saw that she still had droopy eyes and felt that she was still not in a good mood.

She lowered her head and said that she would feel better on her own. Fu Linzheng paused, said nothing, opened the coffee table drawer, took out a box of black playing cards, and sat lazily on the carpet, leaning against the sofa.

Rong Weiyue, drinking her beer, stared at him blankly: "What are you going to do?"

Fu Linzheng leaned back on the sofa, his slender waist slightly bent, his two long legs stretched out and bent, his elbows casually resting on his bent knees. He opened the deck of cards directly with his long, well-defined fingers, and the cards fell into his palm.

The living room was dark, but the lights from the clouds outside the French windows streamed in, framing Fu Linzheng's profile with sharp, angular features. The black mole on his eyelid was visible above his drooping eyes, giving him a nonchalant yet alluring air.

She sat opposite him.

The clatter of the shuffling cards filled the air as the man twirled the pinky finger of the Tide bracelet, smoothly manipulating it, his voice carrying a casual flirtatious tone:

"Let me show you a game: Card Selection and Finding."

With a flick of his wrist, a clean and beautiful card spring saw the playing cards leap from one hand to the other like white waves. Then he turned the cards face down and held them up in front of her.

"Choose two cards from these fifty-two cards. They can be cards you like or cards that are meaningful to you. You don't need to let me see them."

Rong Weiyue was confused. Was he going to perform a magic trick...?

As if struck by a thought, her hazy vision swept around, and she drew a Queen of Hearts and an 8 of Spades.

Her birthday is December 8th.

She chose those two numbers.

"Are you sure?"

"Um……"

Then Fu Linzheng took the remaining cards, quickly shuffled them, and let her put in two more cards at random. He then leaned towards her, his voice low and magnetic:

"Next up is mind reading."

"Look me in the eyes for ten seconds, and I can sense the card you just drew."

The two were very close. Rong Weiyue looked up blankly, her vision dim, but Fu Linzheng's dark eyes were burning hot, gradually setting fire to her face.

So close, the cool scent of bamboo leaves and mint emanating from him filled her nostrils just as it had during their embrace, carrying an irrepressible invasiveness that made her heart beat faster involuntarily.

A few seconds later, she couldn't resist any longer, her eyelashes trembled and drooped. Fu Linzheng raised the corners of his lips: "Alright, you've finished reading."

She saw Fu Linzheng begin shuffling the cards, the cards spinning and flipping deftly in his hands.

After shuffling, he placed the entire deck face down in his left palm, made a top shot, and a card bounced into his right hand. He held it up: "Is this the one?"

It's a 9 of Hearts.

Rong Weiyue shook her head: "No."

Fu Linzheng played the ace of spades again. "This one?"

Rong Weiyue shook her head.

The third card was the 7 of Diamonds. He raised an eyebrow. "And this one?"

"no."

He then popped up a 9 of diamonds. "This one?"

Rong Weiyue hugged her knees and rested her chin on her hand, her eyebrows arched in a daze: "Neither, Fu Linzheng, do you even know how?" Was this guy teasing her on purpose?

He casually curled his lips: "Neither of them are right. I guess I made a mistake. Or can you give me a hint? What do these two numbers mean?"

Rong Weiyue lowered her eyes and said softly, "This is not a number worth commemorating."

Upon hearing this, Fu Linzheng's dark eyes flickered slightly. He then snapped his fingers crisply at the remaining cards and raised the corner of his lips, "I found it."

Then he drew the first card, flipped it, and tossed it—

The red heart Q appeared before my eyes.

Rong Weiyue was taken aback.

Then, with a casual Duck Change, the cards in his hand suddenly changed, and another card appeared—the 8 of spades that she had drawn.

He flipped his hand over and placed the two cards on the carpet.

"12 and 8, right?"

Rong Weiyue was stunned.

She reminded him, and he guessed it immediately...

"How did you do that...?"

The man then picked up the four wrong cards he had drawn earlier and placed them in order before the two wrong cards.

Rong Weiyue looked over and suddenly froze.

The four cards were then arranged in the order of 1, 9, 9, 7.

December 8, 1997.

It's her birthday.

Fu Linzheng lifted the mole on his eyelid and looked directly at her: "It's not just about the month and date, but also the year, to make it your birthday, isn't it?"

Rong Weiyue's heart was in turmoil, her mind blank. "How did you know from the beginning that I drew the birthday card..."

Fu Linzheng laughed: "I already said it's mind-reading, so with me around, can't anything be accomplished by wishing?"

The man's dark eyes were fixed solely on her, and he said in a hoarse voice:

"Rong Weiyue, who says this day isn't worth commemorating?"

"It doesn't matter if others forget, but I can always find your birthday."

It doesn't matter if other people don't care.

He will always remember her birthday.

The day his little moon came into this world was the most important day of his life.

Without her, how can he move forward now?

Upon hearing this, Rong Weiyue's eyes welled up with tears.

Fu Linzheng shuffled the cards, raising an eyebrow at her: "How about it, want to play again?"

She looked up and met Fu Linzheng's burning gaze. The next second, she suddenly leaned closer and pressed her red lips against his.

Fu Linzheng was taken aback.

Like a meteorite, it burned and exploded without warning, crashing into his universe.

Rong Weiyue clutched the blanket with her fingertips, her mind a blur, her heart pounding, and she could only put her thoughts into practice under the influence of alcohol.

A few seconds later, she realized what she was doing, her cheeks flushed red, and she wanted to back away in embarrassment, but Fu Linzheng raised his hand and grabbed the back of her neck, encircling her.

In an instant, he took the initiative, reversed her impulse, and gave her a deep kiss.

The scalding breath on her lips burned onto her slightly cool red lips, like a fire raging up, completely, intensely, and with no way out.

The man ran his fingers through her hair, lowered his head and drew closer, his intense breath assaulting her with a fierce sense of aggression, almost engulfing her completely.

In an instant, their feelings spread like wildfire. The playing cards were scattered around them, and Rong Weiyue's eyelashes fluttered like butterfly wings as she involuntarily closed her eyes.

Fu Linzheng lifted her face and kissed her more deeply, his breath coming in heavy gasps. Her breathing became disordered, and her face flushed even more under the influence of alcohol.

She couldn't resist and fell backward, unable and unwilling to push him away, her voice trembling softly: "Mmm... Fu Linzheng..."

The two fell onto the carpet, the man's hand gripping her slender waist as he leaned in and kissed her repeatedly. She quickly loosened her teeth, allowing him to penetrate her even more deeply, just like every night they had spent together six years ago.

After a while, Rong Weiyue's slightly red earlobe touched the heat of his lips. Almost reflexively, an electric current ran down her spine, and she trembled slightly.

Alcohol and lust intertwined, and she felt as if she had fallen into cotton.

As the surging waves crashed in, Fu Linzheng's arms, with their prominent blue veins, gripped her waist. A soft moan escaped her red lips, mingling with his panting breath.

The man slowly changed from being assertive to being gentle and tender. After an unknown amount of time, he felt the woman in his arms quiet down.

He looked down and saw her with her eyes closed, leaning against him.

"Rong Weiyue".

She nuzzled her head against the crook of his neck, and drifted off to sleep.

"..."

Wow, that's impressive, she flirted with him for a bit and then ran away.

Fu Linzheng took a deep breath, gently brushing away the stray hairs from her cheek, watching her nestled obediently in his arms, motionless.

I really trust him.

A few seconds later, the man suppressed his agitation, picked her up, and carried her into her bedroom.

He put the little girl on the bed and covered her with a blanket.

Fu Linzheng's gaze fell on her rosy lips, his eyes clouded, and he gently kissed her cheek before leaving the room.

He returned to his bedroom, closed the door, and headed towards the bathroom.

The sound of water pattering continued until very late.

-

The cold wind howled outside, and snow fell all night.

The next day, Rong Weiyue woke up with a throbbing headache.

She got out of bed and saw that she was still wearing yesterday's clothes.

She was stunned for two seconds, and memories of last night flooded in like the morning light pouring through the window.

This time, she didn't black out.

She remembered that she had drunk a lot of alcohol last night and lost control of her emotions. She took the initiative to hug Fu Linzheng, and he talked to her for a long time and even performed magic tricks for her.

Then, as the magic trick was going on perfectly, she couldn't help but kiss him...

She kissed him!!

They seemed to be kissing quite passionately...

"!!"

Rong Weiyue's mind went blank, and she turned over and buried her face in the blanket.

Has she gone mad?!

It's all over, it's all over, sob sob sob...

She was now fully awake, so embarrassed that she buried herself in the cup, her face turning bright red.

This was their second kiss since they reunited. The first time, he forced her, but this time she took the initiative, and she couldn't deny it even if she wanted to.

QAQ How is she supposed to face Fu Linzheng now...?

After getting out of bed and washing up, she quietly opened the bedroom door and peeked out. It was very quiet outside.

She went outside, and Hu Hu woke up and ran over to her, thrashing about. She immediately picked it up to stop it from barking, as if she were trying to kidnap a dog.

She quietly prepared breakfast for it, tiptoed to the entrance, and was about to change her shoes when the bedroom door suddenly opened.

Fu Linzheng walked out, wearing a black T-shirt and trousers, with broad and relaxed shoulders and neck.

He lifted his eyelids to look at her, a ripple of emotion stirring in his eyes.

He swallowed hard, staring intently at her. "Breakfast..."

He was about to tell her that breakfast was ready and on the table, but the girl quickly lowered her eyes, put on her shoes, and said, "I...I don't have time, I have to go to work first."

With a bang, she ran out and slammed the door shut.

Fu Linzheng: "..."

He saw Kapibala, who had been knocked down by the shock at the door, and a smirk appeared on his lips.

Sure enough, he knew she was like this.

They're as timid as rabbits.

Rong Weiyue went downstairs and rushed to her studio, her heart still pounding like popcorn.

I don't know how to face him, it's so awkward...

Upon arriving at Qingyue Pavilion, she strode into her office. Shu Jin greeted her, surprised, "Sister, why is your face so red? It's so cold today."

"I...maybe it's because I'm wearing thick clothes."

She went to her office, opened the freezer, took out a bottle of ice water, and immediately drank it down, trying to calm herself down.

Her phone vibrated quickly, as if it knew she had arrived at the studio and was deliberately trying to catch her:

[Rong Weiyue, why are you running so fast if you feel guilty?]

Her cheeks flushed red, and she could only force a lie: "No, I really didn't have time."

Then the other person sent a message, which was extremely direct:

How much do you remember about last night?

Sitting down at her desk, she slowly typed a few words: [Last night? What happened?]

Fu Linzheng: [Playing dumb, huh?]

Rong Weiyue replied with a headache: 【I blacked out last night. You know I have a very low alcohol tolerance. What did I do? If I offended you, I apologize.】

Fu Linzheng sent her a message, and she could already picture his exasperated yet amused expression: "Fine, you're really something."

Rong Weiyue's cheeks flushed.

The main problem was that her mind was a jumbled mess; she couldn't understand why she couldn't help but kiss him, and why he didn't refuse...

Everything happened in such an absurd and ambiguous way.

If she hadn't fallen asleep last night, she definitely wouldn't have been able to resist Fu Linzheng's advances, and maybe they would have...

She covered her phone and buried her pink face in her scarf.

She worked absentmindedly all morning. During that time, Rong Xinxu sent her a message asking how she was feeling. She replied as usual that she liked this younger brother.

At noon, her phone received several more messages from Sheng Liu.

[Yueyue, did you have lunch? I apologize on behalf of Dad for what happened yesterday. He said some harsh things, but he really cares about you. He was very upset after you left and drank a lot. You are his pride, and he just wants someone to take care of you. He's afraid you'll be all alone and helpless.]

Don't be angry with your dad and me. We only introduced you to Yan Huai because he's a really good catch.

Rong Weiyue looked at the message and found it ridiculous.

If she has no one to rely on, can't her parents be her support? Why must she rely on a man?

She replied: "From childhood to adulthood, can't you ever ask me before doing anything? You're so afraid I won't get married, you force someone on me. But can you take responsibility for my future married life? What if I'm unhappy?"

I'll say it again: I don't go on blind dates, and I don't need to be his mediator after every argument. Let's see each other less for now, so we can both be more comfortable.

She's become numb to very few things now.

She just wanted to go home less often, which would be better for them all.

Sheng Liu sent another message, but she neither read it nor replied.

Fortunately, these things don't affect her much, because she has bigger problems to deal with right now...

After a busy day at the studio, she returned home after working overtime in the evening and found Fu Linzheng exercising. She quickly went back to her bedroom, locked the door, and never came out again.

The next morning, as dawn broke, Fu Linzheng woke up, intending to make breakfast for Rong Weiyue and, incidentally, intercept her.

He knew the girl was embarrassed, that she had been drinking and was in a bad mood, and that she was being impulsive. He didn't intend to force her to do anything, but no matter how shy she was, she couldn't just hide from him and make him unable to see her at all, could she?

To his surprise, when he stepped out of the bedroom, he found it empty.

He checked the time and it was only 5:45.

"..."

Judging by this, are you not even planning to come home tonight?

That evening, Yin Lu and Xia Qiantang called Rong Weiyue to invite the three sisters to get together. Rong Weiyue agreed and went to Yin Lu's house after dinner. It was too late, so she told Fu Linzheng that she wouldn't be going home.

On the morning of the third day, she went directly from Yin Lu's house to the studio.

However, she wasn't entirely trying to avoid Fu Linzheng. The design drafts for the "Frost and Snow Chant" jewelry needed to be finalized in the next couple of days, and the design department was working at full speed.

On the afternoon of the third day, Rong Weiyue went to Mingheng Group to submit the final draft as agreed.

Upon entering the conference room, the director and the props team leader arrived. Rong Weiyue didn't see Fu Linzheng, and breathed a slight sigh of relief. She stood up and greeted the director.

The other party apologized again, feeling guilty: "Ms. Rong, you've had a hard time these past few days. I'm sorry for the trouble I caused you before."

"It's alright. Just finalize the draft as soon as possible, and we can move on to the next step."

"Okay, let's take a look at the design draft first. Please have a seat."

The group sat down, and Rong Weiyue handed over the design drafts. As they were chatting, the meeting room door suddenly opened.

People I hadn't seen for several days came into view.

Today, the man was dressed in a noble and well-tailored suit. The fabric fit him perfectly and his tall figure was very upright. His superior bone structure and exquisitely sculpted face made him look too authoritative. His usual unruly aura was somewhat toned down.

This was the complete opposite of the forceful way he had kissed her that night.

Rong Weiyue was stunned.

Why is he here...?

The leaders in front of her nodded and greeted Fu Linzheng. Rong Weiyue's heart skipped a beat, her cheeks flushed, and she respectfully said, "Hello, President Fu."

Fu Linzheng's gaze fell upon them, and he spoke with a half-smile:

"Miss Rong, it's been a long time."

"..."

The director asked in surprise, "Mr. Fu, weren't you still attending a board meeting?"

He was worried that the young woman would run into trouble at work, so when he learned that she had arrived, he skipped the meeting.

Fu Linzheng sat down, crossed his long legs, glanced at Rong Weiyue opposite him out of the corner of his eye, and said in a light tone:

"I just happened to have some free time, so you guys continue."

"good."

Fu Linzheng twirled his pen, and her gaze fell on his hand, its veins bulging. She thought of how easily he had wrapped his arms around her waist that night, how hot it was, and how he had even reached inside her clothes...

The group continued their discussion and went through the script once more. The director exclaimed, "Miss Rong, your skills are so refined. Qingyue Pavilion has truly lived up to my expectations."

Rong Weiyue smiled and said, "If I didn't have this ability, I wouldn't have come to bid in the first place."

The director nodded with a smile: "Ms. Rong, then we'll leave it to you. Please feel free to contact me if you encounter any problems with the production."

"OK."

Finally, after reaching an agreement, the director and the others left.

Rong Weiyue picked up her bag and walked out, following at the back, only to see Fu Linzheng slam the conference room door shut in front of her.

He turned and leaned against the door, hands in his pockets, looking up at her, exuding an air of nonchalant elegance.

Only they remained in the conference room.

She suddenly stopped in her tracks and subconsciously said, "President Fu..."

Fu Linzheng stared intently at her:

"What did you call me?"

Feeling inexplicably furtive, Rong Weiyue was afraid someone might be passing by and peeking through the frosted glass. She nervously moved her red lips and lowered her eyes.

"At the company, we have a working relationship."

Fu Linzheng responded in a drawn-out tone and walked up to her: "Then tell me, what kind of relationship do we have in private?"

Memories flooded back.

Fu Linzheng, like a wild beast eyeing its prey, pressed closer and closer. Rong Weiyue couldn't escape. She retreated and leaned against the desk, her ear, which he had sucked and bitten that night, still burning faintly. "Fu Linzheng..."

The man braced himself against the table behind her with one hand, trapping her in his territory. He leaned down to meet her almond-shaped eyes, his voice low and magnetic, a hint of a smile playing on his lips.

"Rong Weiyue, didn't you say you drank yourself into oblivion and didn't remember anything?"

"Then why have you been avoiding me these past few days?"

Rong Weiyue: "..."
