Chapter 20 Be the light of the world, and I will be your light.

"Maybe I caught a cold from being caught in the rain yesterday, it's nothing," Wen He tried to explain.

“You…” Cheng Yudie hesitated for a moment, then continued, “How can you be so stupid even when you lie? Who coughs up blood when they have a cold…”

"…………"

Wen He remained silent for a while, genuinely unsure of what to say.

"In short, let's eat first. It's already past eight o'clock, and the food is getting cold."

Seeing that Wen He didn't want to talk, Cheng Yudie didn't make things difficult for him, but instead took him inside.

The table was laden with delicious food.

"Are we having guests today?" Wen He asked, puzzled.

“Yes, you are,” she said.

"Me?" Wen He looked surprised.

"Try it, I haven't cooked in ages!"

Before Wen He could react, Cheng Yudie picked up a sweet and sour squirrel fish for him.

Wen He paused for a moment, then put the piece of fish into her mouth.

The sweet and sour sauce on the outer layer is appetizing, and the outer layer is crispy while the fish is tender and smooth. It is almost the same as what you get in restaurants.

Wen He is a frequent cook, so of course she knows that making this thing is very strenuous.

In addition to these, there are braised pork trotters, toothpick beef, boiled shrimp...

The table was soon filled with a large spread of dishes, but there wasn't a single vegetarian dish; it was all hearty and substantial.

Wen He even suspected that Cheng Yudie had invited several chefs to her home to cook for her.

"It's so delicious! I haven't cooked in a long time, and I thought I'd gotten rusty, but it's still amazing! You're such a great cook!"

"It's so great that you came to visit me. These are all dishes I usually want to eat, but one person can't possibly eat this much, so they just end up going to waste."

"It's a pity it's a bit cold. It's all your fault for coming so late. Although it would taste better if it were heated up, I'm too lazy to move. My stomach is growling."

Cheng Yudie inhaled rapidly while muttering to herself.

His behavior was unrestrained and unconventional, as if he didn't consider Wen He an outsider at all.

Soon, Cheng Yudie put four or five large shrimp into Wen He's bowl.

"I'm treating you to dinner, it's not too much to ask you to peel a few shrimp for me, right? Hehe..."

Well, this definitely shows they're not treating Wen He like an outsider.

No one puts shrimp in someone else's bowl expecting them to peel it for them.

Upon seeing this, Wen He immediately smiled.

When Wen He first saw that such a large table of food was prepared for him, she felt very uneasy.

This might not mean much to Cheng Yudie.

But for Wen He, this meal was indeed far too lavish; it could even be described as luxurious.

Wen He was late and hadn't brought any gifts, so she came to the feast empty-handed, which made her feel somewhat ashamed.

However, Cheng Yudie's behavior greatly reduced Wen He's sense of shame.

After peeling the shrimp for her, Wen He smiled and asked, "Do you need anything else?"

"No need, you eat quickly, the last person to finish will have to wash the dishes~" Cheng Yudie gave another wicked smile, as if she had succeeded in her scheme.

Wen He also started eating, and every dish was unexpectedly delicious.

"Try the seafood soup I made." Cheng Yudie ladled a bowl of soup for Wen He.

"So fresh!" Wen He's eyes lit up, but the more she drank, the more something felt off: "It seems a little familiar..."

"Haha, this is water mixed with the seasoning powder from my seafood instant noodles." Cheng Yudie was exceptionally happy.

"You're really something." Wen He smiled knowingly.

This heartwarming scene brought tears to Wen He's eyes.

Isn't this exactly what he's been dreaming of?

After getting off work, I can have a hot meal.

I can also chat about everyday things at the dinner table.

It's such a simple thing, something he's never experienced at home.

If only his parents could ask him a caring question like, "Are you tired from working overtime so often lately?"

Wen He wasn't afraid of going home.

At home, no matter how much he gives or how well he does, he never receives a kind word.

If they open their mouths to Wen He, they will inevitably be met with criticism and trouble.

"Yay! I'm done eating! You can do the dishes now!" Cheng Yudie jumped up as if she had won a victory after eating and drinking her fill.

"Okay." Wen He smiled slightly.

"Oh, by the way, try to finish everything you can. I don't keep leftovers overnight."

Upon hearing this, Wen He looked at the large table of food and was momentarily stunned.

"If we can't finish this, we'll just throw it all away?" Wen He asked in surprise.

“Yes, I only use my refrigerator to store drinks and fruit. I have OCD and like things to be neat and tidy. I feel uncomfortable if these things are put in the refrigerator, so I’m asking you to do it for me~” Cheng Yudie said playfully, clasping her hands together.

"Okay, I'll try my best..."

Then Wen He also started a frenzied eating spree, stuffing all the food that might otherwise have been wasted into her stomach.

By the end, Wen He was so full that her eyes were practically seeing stars.

"Wow, you ate so clean! It's so great that you came to visit me, so I can eat lots of different kinds of delicious food!" Cheng Yudie exclaimed happily.

"No, no, no... This is way too much..." Wen He had never eaten so much since she could remember.

"What's there to be afraid of? It's the time when you're growing."

"I'm already an adult."

"We're the same age, right? We're both eighteen. You boys are supposed to be over twenty."

"There's probably no chance," Wen He said.

“That’s true. After all, you’re already this tall. If you grow any taller, you’ll probably grow sideways,” Cheng Yudie replied.
