As dusk settled over the folds of the Bashan Mountains, a warm lamp suddenly shone in the mountainside.
The wooden house resembled a firefly lifted by the evening breeze, its fuzzy glow filtering through the pine branches and casting tiny golden flakes into the stream.
The wooden sign for "Firefly Hut" leans against the vines, and the crooked handwriting is still covered with pine needles.
A few pages of books peeked out from the wooden window frame, and freshly picked wild ginger flowers were placed in a ceramic jar, the dewdrops on the petals reflecting the crescent moon in the sky.
A mountain breeze wafted in the scent of pine resin as it pushed open the door, and the old bookshelf creaked as it shook off a few acorns from last autumn.
The warm yellow light wandered across the title page of the old book, startling the ginkgo bookmark tucked inside "Stray Birds," and the golden veins of the leaf suddenly shimmered with light.
Fireflies flitted past the window, adorning the valley with starlight in the night.
If you come to visit me and I am not home, please sit with the flowers outside my door for a while.
They are so warm; I've been watching them for many days.
At that moment, a hand flipped over the sign that had words written on it and was hanging at the door.
Gao Chongting simply patted the dust and sawdust off his body, lit some dry grass, and threw it into the fireplace. He then added a few pieces of thin wood, and once the fire was burning a little brighter, he added a few pieces of firewood.
The dancing flames displayed a graceful dance through the glass.
Place a pot of water on the fireplace and let it simmer.
Pick up a vinyl record and put it into the record player.
"When you step into this place of joy~"
"Carry all your dreams and aspirations on your back~"
"Different faces, different makeup~"
Nobody remembers what you look like.
"…………"
Hearing the familiar voice coming from the record, Gao Chongting was momentarily stunned.
He was in a daze for a long time.
He only snapped out of his daze when the water in the kettle started to boil.
He gently wiped away the few tears that had seeped from the corners of his eyes, and then brewed himself a pot of tea.
"Major shareholder, the company you sponsored opened today. How's it going?"
As they were talking, Gao Chongting placed a cup of tea on the seat opposite him.
Even though there was no one there.
Ding ding ding~
Just then, a gentle breeze swept by.
The wind chimes hanging at the door made a pleasant sound.
The tea was stirred by a gentle breeze, and Gao Chongting seemed to see Wen He's warm face reflected in the ripples of the teacup.
As the ripples gradually subsided, his face disappeared.
But Gao Chongting smiled.
He knew that Wen He had already been there.
They decided on the name "Firefly Hut" while having a few drinks at a street food stall.
Then Wen He sang the song "Sorrow".
These things seem like they happened just yesterday.
"Wen He, you and Yu Die must be happy in your next life."
"And Xiao Huang, didn't you say you hoped Xiao Huang would be reborn into a good family in his next life? I think being reborn into your family is the best choice."
"You all need to take good care of yourselves. I feel incredibly fortunate to have met you guys in my lifetime."
"Wen Ze has been very busy lately. I don't see any independence and maturity in him that you would expect at the age of eleven."
At this point, Gao Chongting finished his tea in one gulp, his face beaming with pride and self-satisfaction.
He seemed to genuinely treat Wen Ze like his own son.
Seeing what he had done, Gao Chongting was genuinely happy.
“He has been learning all sorts of musical instruments lately, and whenever he has free time, he drags me along to do charity work.”
"Several truckloads of basic necessities such as firewood, rice, oil, salt, cotton-padded coats, and quilts were transported to those impoverished mountainous areas."
"And they also funded the establishment of Guangming Primary School, including a charity canteen for the elderly."
"You have no idea how many tricks this little guy has up his sleeve; he's really kept me on my toes lately."
"At first I was worried he would misuse the large sum of money you left him, but now it seems that the kid knows how to use it much better than I do."
Gao Chongting recounted incessantly some of the things that had happened recently.
Those who didn't know him might have thought he was some kind of madman talking to himself, rambling on and on in an empty bookstore.
The night grew deeper.
The light emanating from the firefly hut grew brighter and brighter.
