Cheng Xiangling was instantly terrified, her face turning deathly pale. All she could think about was how haggard and pale Cheng Wan looked today.
She didn't even have time to thank the old woman before she took off running towards the Wen family's location.
"What happened? How is my sister?!"
Before Wen Jun could speak, Cheng Xiangling shoved him away in a fit of anger.
She desperately wanted to confirm her sister's safety.
Unexpectedly, as soon as I stepped into the room, I saw Cheng Wan sitting on the floor, clutching the bed sheet with one hand and touching her swollen belly with the other.
The moment he opened his mouth, he vomited a huge mouthful of blood.
Cheng Xiangling was young and had never seen such a scene before. She was so frightened that tears welled up in her eyes, and her voice trembled violently as she spoke.
"Sis, don't scare me, what's going on?"
She rushed over to help Cheng Wan up, but before her hand could even touch Cheng Wan's arm, Cheng Wan let out a soft moan of pain.
Countless drops of blood gushed from beneath her, soaking the entire hem of her skirt.
Cheng Xiangling froze on the spot, crying helplessly:
"What are you all standing there for? Quickly call an ambulance!"
Cao Tongwen and Wen Jun stood to the side, equally panicked and at a loss.
Upon hearing this, Cao Tongwen immediately perked up, muttering curses and saying nothing nice.
“We’ve never let Cheng Wan go hungry, so why is she suddenly like this? Could it be that she’s dying?”
“It’s really bad luck to have a daughter-in-law like this. I don’t think we should call an ambulance. It’s a hassle and a waste of money. We should just find a midwife to save the baby.”
She muttered to herself in what she thought was a quiet voice.
“I can remarry if I lose my wife, but I must keep my eldest grandson safe.”
Cheng Xiangling originally thought this family was just a bit cold-blooded, but she never expected them to be so beastly.
At this point, how dare she say such a thing!
With her parents not around and her sister so sick, no matter how scared she was, she had to stand up and protect her family.
Cheng Xiangling's eyes were red, her voice was trembling noticeably, but her tone was incredibly firm.
“Brother-in-law, my sister is your wife, and she is carrying your child. You absolutely cannot abandon her, both morally and logically.”
"Quickly find a way to borrow a car and come with me to take my sister to the hospital!"
"oh."
Wen Jun had just turned his head to run out when Cao Tongwen suddenly stretched out her arm and blocked the doorway.
"Let's see who dares to go! It's just having a baby, why make such a fuss?"
"It's just spitting out blood. Look how scared you two are. You're both grown men and a young girl. You naturally don't understand things about us women, and you don't even know that pregnant women can spit out blood."
Cao Tongwen blinked guiltily, but her tone remained confident.
“Our conditions were much worse back then. When I was giving birth to Junjun, I almost cut myself open with scissors. Even though I was in such a bad state, I didn’t say anything or cry out in pain.”
"Cheng Wan is so dramatic. It's just a little bleeding and spitting blood. It's not like she's about to die. What's there to make such a fuss about?"
After listening to his mother's nonsense, Wen Jun actually believed it and stood there dumbfounded, offering dry advice:
"Since my mother has said so, Xiangling, you should sit down and rest for a while. Cheng Wan will be fine after she gives birth."
Cheng Xiangling was almost laughing in exasperation at this bizarre mother and son.
She took a deep breath, fiercely wiped away the tears on her face, and looked at the two people in front of her with hatred in her eyes.
“It’s not someone from your family who died, so you naturally don’t care. But I only have one sister. If something happens to my sister, none of you can afford to compensate me.”
Like a raging little beast, Cheng Xiangling shoved aside Cao Tongwen and Wen Jun, who were blocking her way, and rushed to the bedside.
"Get out of my way, all of you! If you won't take my sister to the hospital, I'll go myself!"
She grabbed Cheng Wan's arm and lifted her up, struggling to walk her out while constantly whispering words of comfort.
"Don't be afraid, sister. I'm here. Xiangling is here. I'll take you to the hospital right away."
"I haven't even met my little nephew yet. Sister, I promise you, I will absolutely not let anything happen to you and the baby."
Cao Tongwen and Wen Jun stood indifferently to the side, and Cheng Xiangling ignored them as well.
As soon as she stepped out of the room, she saw that Grandma Qian, Grandma Sun, and Grandma Lü, who were usually the most enthusiastic and talkative people in the courtyard, were already waiting outside, watching her with a leisurely air.
Cheng Xiangling bit her lip, knowing full well that these weren't good people, but in order to get her sister to the hospital as soon as possible, she still pleaded in a low voice:
"Please help me, my sister is very ill. She just had some bleeding and even vomited blood."
"Please, someone, have the kindness to lend a hand and come with me to take her to the hospital."
"You're so sick."
The three were startled by these words and immediately turned around and walked back.
Grandma Qian even covered her grandson's ears and kept spitting on the ground.
"Pah, pah, pah! Women who have miscarriages are the most unclean. Let's stay away from her and not get tainted by her bad luck!"
Cheng Xiangling watched their backs recede into the distance, feeling both angry and sad. Her eyes were wet, and she was on the verge of crying.
But seeing the trail of blood behind her and Cheng Wan, she gritted her teeth, hugged her sister, and walked out step by step.
Hearing the commotion, Sister Li, who was washing dishes at home, wiped her hands clean and ran out to see what was happening. She was terrified when she saw Cheng Wan's skirt covered in blood and quickly shouted for help.
"Something terrible has happened! The Wen family's wife is bleeding heavily and needs to be taken to the hospital immediately. Everyone, please come and help!"
The already noisy courtyard suddenly became brightly lit.
Accompanied by barking dogs, the sound of a wooden door being pushed open rang out.
Aunt Zhou and Uncle Qi, who lived very close to the Wen family, were always kind-hearted. They didn't even have time to put on their clothes properly, and ran out in their coats and slippers.
"Xiangling, don't cry, what's wrong with your sister?"
People from the Hou, Fu, and Jia families also peeked out from their gates one after another, and even Grandpa Han, who lived at the other end of the alley, came over.
Everyone helped Cheng Wan up, and they were all very worried to see how weak she was.
Seeing that so many people were finally willing to help her, Cheng Xiangling finally felt that she could be saved, and hurriedly said in a trembling voice:
“I don’t know what happened. I went to the street to buy fruit for my sister, and when I came back I found that my sister was bleeding.”
None of them had much medical experience, and they originally planned to take Cheng Wan to the hospital.
But her condition was too serious at this moment; she had already fainted.
Fearing that taking her around rashly might cause further harm, the group could only carry Cheng Wan out and place her at the doorway, letting her sit on a chair.
