Chapter 112: War is Coming (1/2)

Chapter 112: War is coming

The start time of the health worker examination is 8:30 in the morning, and the location is on the first floor of the west wing of the office building.

The list of people taking the exam was determined long ago.

As early as the middle of December last year, Yun Qiao's name was reported by the company.

After verifying his identity information, Yun Qiao was allowed into the examination room, and Jiang Ling could only wait outside.

The health worker examination is divided into two parts: a written test and a practical test.

After all, Yun Qiao was a mature doctor who had actually worked as a health worker. This kind of entry-level exam was child's play for her, so she completed the exam smoothly.

The exam ends in the morning, and the results are available by 2 p.m. Once you pass the exam, you'll be officially registered as a hygienist on the farm.

The process was simple. After all, medical resources were extremely scarce in this region, with doctors everywhere, and no medical license was required. Jiang Ling, for example, had never even read a medical book before, having only received a brief medical training at the regiment headquarters. Without even understanding anything, she was already prescribing medicine with just a medicine box. By comparison, the fact that the headquarters had established a medical worker exam was considered relatively "formal."

After the exam, it was almost twelve o'clock.

When Yun Qiao came out of the office building, Jiang Ling and Captain Yang were already waiting outside.

But the expressions on a few people's faces were not pleasant, they looked as if they were sad, or as if they were filled with righteous indignation.

Cigarette butts were scattered around Captain Yang's feet. He still had a cigarette in his hand, smoking it fiercely, as if he wanted to suck the cigarette into his lungs as if it were an enemy.

Yun Qiao originally had a smile on his face, but when he approached and saw their appearance, his smile unconsciously faded.

"Captain Yang, Jiang Yuren, what happened?" Yun Qiao asked uneasily, "You both look unhappy."

"Something happened. Let's not talk about this for now. I'll tell you in detail later."

Jiang Ling's expression was uneasy. She changed the subject: "How did you do on the exam? Are you confident you can pass it?"

Yun Qiao nodded. "My exam went well. I'm confident I'll pass. I'll know the results at two o'clock this afternoon."

Jiang Ling hummed and said, "It's getting late. Let's go eat first and then come back to see the results at two in the afternoon."

Because they had to come back to see the results, they did not drive a tractor to the state-owned restaurant this time, but walked there.

The atmosphere along the way was a bit depressing. When we arrived at the state-owned restaurant, no one had much appetite. The five of us only ordered two dishes to fill our stomachs.

Yun Qiao was in a state of panic, and he had a feeling that this matter must be serious.

Coming out of the state-owned restaurant, Yun Qiao was truly uneasy. He secretly tugged at Jiang Ling's sleeve, pulled her aside, and whispered, "Jiang Ren, can you tell me what happened? Why are you all so strange? I'm almost scared to death just looking at you."

Jiang Ling sighed: "Yun Qiao, don't ask anymore. The more you know, the more scared you will be."

After hearing her say this, Yun Qiao felt even more uneasy.

"Jiang Yiren, don't do this. It scares me even more. If it's not a secret, you could at least tell me so I can be mentally prepared."

"You really want to know?"

"Yeah." Yun Qiao nodded heavily. Even if she died, she had to know the truth.

"Then I'm telling you, don't tell anyone else, otherwise it will easily cause panic."

Jiang Ling looked to both sides and made sure that no one was around. Then she lowered her voice and whispered, "Yun Qiao, I'm afraid we're really going to have a war here."

"What?!" Yun Qiao was stunned when he heard that.

She knew that the Northeast would have a border conflict with the neighboring fighting nation in 1969, but she didn't expect it to happen so early.

It’s only the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, and the New Year hasn’t even ended yet.

She couldn't help but ask back: "Is it true? Is the news confirmed?"

Jiang Ling said, "Of course I'm sure. The news you, Captain Yang, just heard at the meeting today, how could it be false?"

"Why are we going to war all of a sudden? Is there some trigger?"

"It's just the other side provoking trouble! They're determined to invade you. They don't need any triggers; their sheer ambition is enough."

Jiang Ling said indignantly, "You don't know, just last night, the other side suddenly sent troops to attack our border patrol and shot and killed several of our border guards!"

She was so angry that she burst into tears: "What kind of big brother is he? He kills his own little brother, what kind of big brother is he!"

Yun Qiao also sighed: "Big Brother has changed a long time ago."

"Yes! They've become even more despicable than the Americans!" Jiang Ling gritted her teeth and said, "In the final analysis, it's because our country is too weak! They look down on us, so they turn on us without a second thought! They say they're trying to seize our territory and then they shoot at our people! They're so fearless and unscrupulous!"

"This attack is just the first step. The next step might be a large-scale invasion."
