Chapter 22 Uninvited (1/2)

Chapter 22 Uninvited

The next day.

It was a sunny day, and Yun Qiao hung the new quilt he had made the night before in the yard to dry. The quilt, weighing eight kilograms, was so heavy that it bent the clothesline, and the corners of the quilt were almost hanging to the ground.

At noon, she went to the thrift store again and sold the bag of unwanted old clothes she had sorted out earlier. She used the money to buy a nine-year-old second-hand military coat, which she planned to take to the Northeast to give to her uncle Ye Yuanzhang.

The winters in Northeast China are too cold, and my uncle's family doesn't have many warm clothes, so this military coat can come in very handy.

After lunch, someone knocked on Yun Qiao's door from outside.

Yun Qiao heard the sound and stood on tiptoe on the steps in front of the main hall door, looking out, and asked, "Who is it?"

"It's me, Qin Lili." My next-door neighbor and classmate.

"Here I come."

Yun Qiao walked across the yard and opened the door.

As soon as the door opened, Yun Qiao discovered that there was not only Qin Lili outside the door, but also Luo Wei, whom he had just met yesterday.

Yun Qiao was stunned for a moment, pursed his lips and said nothing, keeping the door open.

Qin Lili saw that Yun Qiao had no intention of inviting them in, and she explained awkwardly, "...Yun Qiao, the squad leader said he wanted to see you about something. He knew we were neighbors, so he asked me to bring him in."

She looked embarrassed, meaning that she had no choice but to bring him over.

Seeing that Yun Qiao still had no intention of giving way, he tactfully stopped talking and decisively found an excuse to slip away: "Well... I have something else to do at home, so I'll leave first. You guys chat."

As soon as Qin Lili left, Luo Wei rubbed his hands awkwardly: "Ye Yunqiao, isn't it a bit awkward to let students stand at the door and talk?"

Considering that Luo Wei might say something like "My father is the deputy factory director" or "My father can get in through the back door", it would be easy for others to hear it if he stood at the door and said it, which would have a great impact. So Yun Qiao slightly stepped aside and allowed Luo Wei to enter the yard.

She deliberately left the door open and even opened another door that the first one had not opened.

Luo Wei wanted to go into the main room, but was stopped by Yun Qiao when he was about to reach the steps in front of the corridor.

"Mr. Luo Wei."

Luo Wei turned around confused: "Huh?"

Yun Qiao pointed to the small bench in the yard and motioned for him to sit down: "What's the matter? Let's talk right here."

Luo Wei glanced at the small bench and didn't move. Instead, he said, "Student Ye Yunqiao, the sun is strong at noon, and I'm thirsty after walking all the way. Can you invite me into the house for a glass of water?"

Yun Qiao: "I'm sorry, but the neighbors in our alley are all gossipy. We're not young anymore, and if we're alone in the same room, they'll easily spread gossip. I'll buy you a soda later."

"Okay." Yun Qiao had already said that, and Luo Wei had no choice but to sit down on the small bench in the yard.

When Luo Wei first came, he wanted to be more roundabout and chat with Yun Qiao first to get closer to him, but Yun Qiao didn't give him any face at all.

The atmosphere was a little awkward for a moment. Luo Wei looked at the large cotton quilt drying in the yard and said dryly, "Ye Yunqiao, are you really going to the countryside?"

Yun Qiao replied in a serious tone, "Yes."

Luo Wei was a little anxious: "You study so hard, and there is a great chance that you will be recommended to go to university next year. Don't you think it's a pity to go to the countryside now?"

"Recommend to go to university?" Yun Qiao shook his head: "I'm afraid I don't have this opportunity."
