Chapter 47 Dilemma
After entering the house, Yun Qiao discovered that it was not a large room, but three rooms separated by two walls.
Opposite the main door is the main room. On one side of the door stands a half-person-high cabinet without a door. The cabinet is layered from bottom to top, and contains washbasins, soaps, toothbrushes, combs and other toiletries, all neatly arranged.
There was a long nail wedged into the wall above the low cabinet, and a rectangular mirror was hanging on the nail.
In addition there are two long tables and many stools.
Wei Xing introduced: "This room is a common living room. The sisters eat, read and write in this room."
There are no doors to the rooms on both sides, only a curtain hanging as a cover.
Wei Xing opened the curtain of the room on the left and said to Yun Qiao, "Ye Yun Qiao, put Li on the kang in this room first, and go to the east room to sleep later."
Yun Qiao followed him in and found that the room was empty, with only two lonely kangs facing each other.
"Why is this house uninhabited?"
Wei Xing explained, "We were living here before, but since you new educated youth are coming soon, we've made room for you. The dorms for you new educated youth won't be built for long anyway, so you can just squeeze in for the time being."
"Put your things down and take your blankets to the east room. It's warmer with more people. This room is too cold. It's not worth heating the kang for one person. Move back tomorrow."
Yun Qiao nodded and said, "Tuo."
There were more people in the room on the east side. Yun Qiao counted them and found that there were nine people in total, including the class monitor Wei Xing.
When Wei Xing walked in, she clapped her hands first, introduced Yun Qiao's name to them, and then asked them to applaud and welcome her.
After the applause, a girl with an apple face and two ponytails waved enthusiastically at Wei Xing: "Squad leader, I still have an empty seat inside. Let Ye Zhizhi sleep next to me tonight."
"Ye." Wei Xing agreed directly and turned to Yun Qiao and said, "Ye Yun Qiao, then you can sleep next to Feng Xia tonight. She is also an educated youth from Shanghai."
Yun Qiao nodded again: "Squad Leader Wei."
"Please clean up yourself. I still have clothes to wash."
Wei Xingqi left the room, and Yun Qiao put his quilt next to Fengxia.
Chen Fengxia moved her mattress to the side and helped her to lift the quilt.
"Thank you, Sister Fengxia."
Chen Fengxia waved her hand. "No need to thank me. We're all educated youth from Shanghai. Where are you from?"
Yun Qiao: "My home is near Fuxing Park."
"My home is in Zhabei, so our two families are not far away." Chen Fengxia said happily: "It's great, our homes are so close, and when I go home to visit my relatives, we can keep each other company on the way."
"Yun Qiao, are you eighteen? You look young to me."
Yun Qiao shook his head and said, "I am ten years old this year."
Chen Fengxia said: "Then I am three years older than you. I am nineteen this year."
"Sister Fengxia, when did you come to Northeast China?"
"last year."
"It's been a year. So how do you feel about Northeast China? Have you adapted?"
Chen Fengxia shrugged. "Well, let's just go with it. I'm here now, so I have to adapt even if I can't."
This was said honestly and with a hint of helplessness, so Yun Qiao didn't ask any more questions.
