Chapter 48 Inquiry
Captain Yang left after dinner.
Yun Qiao rushed into the kitchen carrying pastries, and Qin Guifen was still standing in front of the stove making pancakes.
Seeing Yun Qiao come in, she looked up at her and said, "Ye Yun Qiao, you're here just in time. Come and help me light the fire."
"OK."
Yun Qiao placed the pastries on the water tank that he passed by when he entered the door. The water tank was covered with a wooden lid, which could be used to place things.
"Sister-in-law, how do we cook it? High fire or low fire?" She sat on the small stool in front of the stove door and saw that the flame under the stove was getting smaller and smaller, and it seemed that it was about to go out. She quickly grabbed a handful of firewood and added it in.
"Wait." Qin Guifen hurriedly stopped her, "Ye Yunqiao, don't add more firewood. I'm making pancakes, so I need a very small fire. Just watch it and don't let it go out."
"Okay." Yun Qiao put down the firewood in his hand and nodded, indicating that he understood.
Qin Guifen was not very good at making pancakes. Either she flipped them too early and they didn't form a whole pancake, so they always broke into pieces. Or she flipped them too late and the bottom was fried black.
In short, after frying a pot of batter, not many of them are particularly delicious.
Qin Guifen didn't think she was doing a bad job. She even complained to Yun Qiao about Captain Yang, saying, "Your captain is so hard to please. He doesn't even want to drink Hu Tu, which is so delicious. I don't know what he wants to eat every day."
Yun Qiao couldn't respond to this.
Qin Guifen didn't expect Yun Qiao to answer the call. She was just upset and wanted to complain.
Qin Guifen straightened up and pounded her waist. "Oh, my waist! Making pancakes is really not an easy job. If you ask me, it's easier to just boil water in a pot, pour some flour in, stir it, and it's done. But this is too much trouble."
Yun Qiao helped her up and said, "Sitting down and taking a rest if your waist hurts."
"It's nothing serious. I just bent over while making pancakes. I'll be fine after I move my body."
Qin Guifen waved her hand and took two steps outside. Suddenly, she saw Yun Qiao put the oil-paper bag on the water tank. Her eyes lit up and she pointed at the oil-paper bag and asked Yun Qiao, "Is this what you brought?"
Yun Qiao hummed, "The day before yesterday, I bought half a pound of mung bean cakes at the grocery store in the community and brought them over for you and the two children to try. And by the way, thank you for letting me have dinner at your house these past two days."
"That's more like it. You're quite sensible." Qin Guifen was delighted when she heard it. She didn't bother to be polite with Yun Qiao. She happily opened the oil paper package and put half a piece into her mouth: "Wow, I didn't expect the mung bean cake made in this desolate village to taste so good."
Yun Qiao smiled and said, "If you like it, eat more."
"It's such a delicious thing, children like to eat it, so we should leave it to them. I'm an adult, so I can just try half a piece." Qin Guifen said, and wrapped it in oil paper.
She turned to Yun Qiao and said, "Your company commander doesn't like to drink muddle, so I didn't cook this morning. You'll just have to make do with the pancakes and water. The pancake on the chopping board is yours, and the water is in the thermos. Just take a bowl and pour as much as you need."
Yun Qiao agreed.
"Then you eat first. I'll go to the main room to see if the two children are awake." After saying that, Qin Guifen walked out of the kitchen with the pastries.
She hadn't come back since she left the kitchen. After Yun Qiao finished her breakfast, she washed the dishes she had touched.
Coming out of the kitchen, before leaving, Yun Qiao walked to the door of the main hall and said to her, "Sister-in-law, I've finished my meal. If there's nothing else, I won't disturb you. I'll leave first."
"Okay, go ahead and come back to play when you have time."
