The attic door was closed. Yun Qiao was not sure whether Su Hua had returned, so he went forward and knocked on the door.
Fortunately, she had some luck. As soon as she knocked on the door, she heard a girl's clear voice coming from the room: "Who is it?"
Yun Qiao answered through the door: "Hello Su Hua, I'm Yun Qiao."
She didn't say her last name, just her first name.
There was a sound of hurried footsteps in the room, Su Hua ran to the door and opened it.
The girl was wearing an old patched cotton-padded jacket, navy blue on the top and black on the bottom. Only her long hair was tied up with a red string, which was the only bright color on her body.
"Sister Yun...Sister Yun Qiao." She was a little embarrassed, clutching the corner of her clothes, lowering her head, not daring to look Yun Qiao in the eye.
"You, why did you come to me suddenly?"
After her life story was exposed, Yun Qiao was not her real sister. Su Hua felt that they had never met before and should have never met in this life.
She didn't expect Yun Qiao to come.
"When I went to the countryside in Northeast China, you gave me a very thick scarf, which gave me a lot of warmth in the extremely cold weather in the Great Northern Wilderness. So, since I came to Shanghai, I felt that I should at least meet you in person."
Yun Qiao looked at her with a smile on his face. "Xiao Hua, won't you invite me in for a drink of water? It's a bit cold outside. I've been walking all the way here, and my hands and feet are almost frozen."
"Come in, please come in." Su Hua finally woke up from his dream, took a step back, made room at the door, and invited Yun Qiao into the house.
After entering the house, she brought Yun Qiao the only small stool in the house and asked her to sit down, and hurriedly poured her some water to drink.
After Yun Qiao took the cup of water, she busied herself with finding a rag to wipe the table, and explained incoherently, "My room is a little messy, please don't mind."
"It's okay. Your little house may look a little messy, but it's quite clean. There's no dust or anything. It's not dirty at all." Yun Qiao said with a smile, "It's messy because your house is small and you have too many things. When you have too many things and there's nowhere to put them, it's going to look messy no matter how hard you clean it."
Su Hua then stopped wiping the table and said, "There are quite a lot of things in this room. Some were given to me by neighbors who no longer wanted them, and some were discarded by the market workers. I brought them back because I thought they were still good enough. Although I haven't used them yet, I always feel that they will be useful in the future, so I can't bear to throw them away. I'm afraid that if I throw them away, I'll have to spend money to buy them when I need them."
"Increasing revenue and reducing expenditure is good." Yun Qiao smiled faintly and asked, "Do you work at the vegetable market now?"
"It's just a temporary job," Su Hua said. "I go there every morning when the market opens, and I only get nine yuan a month."
"Nine dollars isn't enough, right?" Yun Qiao was a little worried.
"Not bad." Su Hua said, "Because I earn and spend my own money, and I don't have rent to pay, these nine dollars are purely my monthly living expenses, so it's not a small amount. I can't spend it all every month and still have some left over."
After hearing what Su Hua said, Yun Qiao looked around the small room and found that there were two beds in the room, but only one was covered with bedding. The other bed was covered with cardboard and some miscellaneous items. He asked, "Are you living here alone now?"
Su Hua nodded.
"Where are the others?" Yun Qiao was a little curious.
"My brother and his family went to the countryside, and my dad...my dad started a new family."
Su Hua hesitated for a moment. Although he felt embarrassed, he finally chose to tell Yun Qiao the truth: "There's a gangster in my family. Although my father divorced my mother very decisively and published a newspaper to sever ties, he was still implicated. He was suppressed by his unit and was sent to western Sichuan three months ago to build a railway. Less than half an hour after he arrived, he started a family there."
