Chapter 58: Doing the Right Thing
Zheng Wenjing glared at her. "Instructor Zhao asked me what I thought. Is it wrong for me to answer honestly? You're not my cousin, but I just don't think she stole anything. What's wrong with that?"
"You had a conflict with her just yesterday." Qi Chunhui questioned Zheng Wenjing in disbelief, "Why are you still protecting her today?"
This was completely different from what she had imagined.
"Yes, we had a conflict, but that was a small matter. We reconciled later on," Zheng Wenjing said, shrugging her shoulders.
When Yun Qiao heard this, he couldn't help but look at her. He didn't expect Zheng Wenjing to speak up for him.
Qi Chunhui couldn't figure it out either.
In her impression, her cousin Zheng Wenjing has never been a reasonable person. She is spoiled, willful and has a bad temper. Anyone who has a conflict with her will not be able to get a good face from her for ten days or half a month.
Zheng Wenjing didn't notice what the other two were thinking, and instead addressed Instructor Zhao: "Instructor, the misunderstanding between Ye Yunqiao and me was caused by a hygiene issue. She was right, and neither was I. It's over now. But theft is a serious crime punishable by forced labor."
Although I have some minor personality issues, I'm definitely not a bad person. I wouldn't say anything bad about a good person. I don't think she's a thief, so I wouldn't deliberately say bad things about her just because we had a conflict before.
"Okay, I understand your position, but I'll keep my reservations for now."
Instructor Zhao then asked Qi Chunhui, "Qi Chunhui, what about you? Why do you insist that Yun Qiao stole your industrial vouchers?"
"Industrial coupons are only issued with wages, one for every ten yuan of wages. Ye Yunqiao is an orphan without a father or mother, and she has no job. How could she have gotten the industrial coupons? If not her, who else could have stolen them?"
"You have a point, but a case requires evidence. You can't convict someone based solely on your observations and conjectures."
Qi Chunhui's tears fell as he heard this. "I even found my money in her pillow. She was caught red-handed. Doesn't this prove she stole my things?"
"No." Yun Qiao sneered: "Just because I found it in my pillow, does that mean I stole it? Couldn't it be someone else's frame-up? Qi Chunhui, I was thinking of saying that you put it in there on purpose to slander me!"
"What nonsense! Ye Yunqiao, you are so shameless! To get away with it, you can even say such things!"
Qi Chunhui was shaking all over and angrily demanded, "Instructor, Captain Yang, we've caught him red-handed, are you still going to believe what this thief says?!"
Captain Yang had already formed a simple judgment in his mind, but upon hearing this, his brows furrowed. "Don't keep calling him a thief. He hasn't been convicted yet. If the news gets out, it will have a bad impact."
"Qi Chunhui, please calm down. Don't speak rashly and accuse Zhi, who has never been convicted, of being a thief. We don't believe her words, but this matter does have some doubts, so we need to be cautious."
Instructor Zhao gently comforted her, "Also, what Ye Yun and Qiao Zhi said makes sense. Unless someone saw her steal something, even if the item was found inside her pillow, it doesn't prove she stole it. It's possible someone else stole it and put it inside her pillow to divert the blame."
"We still don't know the truth, so it's best to remain calm so we can unravel the chaos and find clues."
Qi Chunhui could no longer calm down. The tense emotions made it impossible for her to think rationally, and she was even on the verge of collapse.
"Suspicious, suspicious, suspicious! How can there be any doubts about something that is so obvious!"
Instructor Zhao saw that he couldn't get enough of Qi Chunhui's questioning, so he decided to interrogate Yun Qiao first. He waved outside and said, "Two female judges, come in and help Judge Qi Chunhui out to rest for a while and calm down."
"No, I won't go out!" Qi Chunhui suddenly pointed the finger at Instructor Zhao and asked him tearfully, "Instructor, why did you send me out? Is there something I, the person involved, can't hear? Or did she do you some favor that's why you're shielding her like this?"
Captain Yang immediately cursed, "Bullshit! I've been a soldier for so many years, I've memorized the Three Disciplines and Eight Points of Attention so well that it's etched into my heart! You little bitch, you're throwing dirty water on me! Even if I die of poverty, I won't accept a single needle or thread from anyone!"
Instructor Zhao's face also turned pale, but he managed to maintain his composure well and still maintained a degree of demeanor: "Qi Chunhui, I understand that you are anxious about losing something, but you also have to understand that there are some things that cannot be said."
Qi Chunhui regretted it then: "I, I also had doubts, it's just that, I was too anxious..."
Yun Qiao looked at Qi Chunhui coldly, who looked like a trapped beast, and suddenly had some speculation in his mind.
So she took the initiative to speak: "Captain Yang, Instructor Zhao, since Qi Chunhui is unwilling to recuse himself, then there is no harm in staying here. I have behaved uprightly and I can take responsibility for every word I say. There is nothing that others cannot hear."
Qi Chunhui sneered: "Okay, I want to see what flowery words you have to say!"
Instructor Zhao looked at Qi Chunhui deeply, a warm smile appeared on his face, and he said softly, "Okay, then Ye Yunqiao Zhi, I will ask you some questions next, and I hope you will answer truthfully."
Yun Qiao nodded: "Okay, ask ahead."
Instructor Zhao asked, "Qi Chunhui told me that you are an orphan, without a father or a mother. Is this true?"
Yun Qiao shook his head directly: "It's not true."
Qi Chunhui was anxious, "That's not what you wrote in the letter..."
"Qi Chunhui!"
But she had barely opened her mouth when Captain Yang interrupted her harshly before she could finish her words.
"The instructor asked Ye Yunqiao, and others should not interrupt."
When Captain Yang glared, he looked fierce and terrifying. Qi Chunhui was so scared that his face turned pale and he shut up subconsciously.
