Chapter 9: Lies
After seeing Aunt Chen off, Yun Qiao picked up the broom and cleaned the house. He also wiped the table with a rag, trying to leave a good impression for the next tenant who would come to see the house, so as to avoid being picked on by others.
In her previous life, she rented the house to the young couple in early winter. In this life, she rented it two months earlier. I don’t know if Aunt Chen can bring the young couple to see the house.
Yun Qiao planned to wait for two more days. To be honest, she would try her luck at the department store mentioned by the girl. Although it would be easy to arouse suspicion by taking the initiative to go to the store, it was better than having her plan go wrong.
She was determined to rent the house to the young couple. After all, she had to buy supplies in the Great Northern Wilderness, and she had an acquaintance in the department store who could do the work for her.
Yun Qiao was lucky. After waiting for two days and sending off two couples who came to see the house, Yun Qiao finally waited for the person he was waiting for.
She came alone and was brought to see the house by Aunt Chen during her lunch break after work.
"Yun Qiao, let me introduce you. This is Xiao Ping, surnamed Gao. She's my niece from my mother's side of the family. She works as a waitress in a department store. We're not strangers, so just call her Sister Xiao Ping."
Yun Qiao smiled and called out "Sister Xiaoping".
Aunt Chen introduced Yun Qiao to Gao Xiaoping: "Xiao Ping, this is the Yun Qiao I've been telling you about. Her house is one of the cleanest and brightest in our alley. Not only does it have a separate toilet and kitchen, but it's also fully furnished. You two can move in right away without having to buy anything. If you rent a bare-bones house, it would cost a fortune just to buy furniture. But for this reason alone, this house is perfect!"
In fact, Gao Xiaoping was extremely satisfied with the house as soon as she walked in. It had good lighting, a large layout, was clean and spacious, and the furniture looked half-new. A simple polish and a coat of paint would make it look like new. Compared with other houses she had seen, ten dollars a month was really not expensive.
"It's quite suitable. You used to live here, didn't you? I see the furniture is made of fine wood."
"Of course not. All the furniture we use at home is made of oak wood." Aunt Chen replied, "If Yun Qiao wasn't about to go to support the Great Northern Wilderness, I wouldn't be willing to rent out this house no matter what."
Gao Xiaoping nodded: "Mr., I've rented this house. The rent is paid annually, right?"
Yun Qiao nodded. "It's paid annually. Because we have furniture and other things at home, we need to pay another 20 yuan deposit. If you don't rent it later, the deposit will be returned to you."
"Your furniture is quite valuable, so it's reasonable to ask for a deposit."
Gao Xiaoping was a salesperson in a department store, earning more than 30 yuan a month. Her husband, Zhou Yakun, was a technician in a machinery factory, a college graduate with a high rank, earning more than 10 yuan a month. Their combined monthly salary was more than 100 yuan. She had ample money and didn't want to pay the 20 yuan deposit.
Gao Xiaoping said as she took out ten yuan from her pocket and handed it to Yun Qiao: "I originally just wanted to come and look at the house today, so I didn't bring that much money. I'll give you ten yuan as a deposit first, and I'll give you the rest in a few days."
"Then I'll make a deposit receipt first, and then we'll sign a formal rental agreement later." Yun Qiao took out a notebook and a piece of printing paper from the drawer in the room, quickly wrote a deposit receipt, gave one to Gao Xiaoping, and kept a copy for himself.
"Sister Xiaoping, when are you free? I've been busy lately."
"Sunday morning," Gao Xiaoping said. "My husband has a day off on Sunday, so I'll bring him over to look at the house."
Now that the renting of a house was settled, Yun Qiao finally had his mind solved.
It was almost time for dinner, so she planned to go to the market to buy some vegetables to cook. But as soon as she went out, she saw Wang Chunqi standing in the alley, peeking out.
Yun Qiao frowned slightly. Why was she here?
When Wang Chunyi saw Yun Qiao, he immediately smiled and trotted towards her: "Yun Qiao, what a coincidence, I was just looking for you."
