Chapter 357 New Colleagues (1/2)

The military uniform factory is not far from the family compound. After exiting the family compound gate, turn left, walk for a while, pass the military primary and middle school, and then cross another street to reach the military uniform factory.

It only took Yun Qiao about ten minutes to walk there from home, and if he rode a bicycle, it would take about three minutes.

The military uniform factory is not very large, with a total of only about 10,000 employees. Due to the nature of the unit, the military uniform factory does not recruit workers from outside, so the people working there are basically family members of soldiers or retired soldiers.

Retired soldiers cannot live in the military family compound, so the military uniform factory also has a family area, which is on the left and right sides of the factory gate. However, the conditions are relatively simple and cannot compare with the courtyard houses in the military family compound. Instead, they are two three-story red brick buildings. Each family has a room and shares a bathroom and kitchen.

Walking forward in the direction of the gate, there is a hard dirt road about three meters wide. The dirt road mixed with gravel is compacted tightly, wide and flat, and walking on it is only slightly worse than walking on an asphalt road.

At the end of the road are tall pine and cypress trees. A two-story office building is hidden behind the trees, and behind the office building are the factory buildings and warehouses of the military uniform factory.

The military uniform factory's health room is located on the first floor of the office building, in the three connected rooms on the westernmost side, and on the right is a staircase, which is separated from the other offices.

Yun Qiao walked to the door of the office with a sign that read "Health Room". Although the double doors were open, Yun Qiao still stood there and knocked lightly on the door twice.

The middle-aged woman sitting behind the long table suddenly raised her head. She was wearing a well-fitting white coat, and her long hair was neatly combed and tied behind her head and wrapped in a thick black hairnet. Her chubby, square face looked very kind.

"Come in."

Yun Qiao walked up to her with a smile on his face: "Hello, I'm the new doctor Qin Yun Qiao, here to report in."

"Hello, Doctor Qin. Please take a seat." The woman stood up and brought a chair to her. She smiled and said, "I know you. The factory office told me a while ago that a doctor named Qin would be taking over my job. My name is Cao Yu. You can speak directly to me, Doctor Cao."

"Thank you." Yun Qiao sat down.

Cao Yu said, "Let me introduce the situation to you. Currently, there are three employees in our military uniform factory clinic. I am the only doctor, and the two nurses are Gao Qian and An Xiaomei. They are not here at the moment. They went out to the restroom. I will introduce them to you when they come back."

"There are three rooms in the clinic. The middle one is the consultation room, which also serves as the doctor's office. The one on the left is the pharmacy and the workroom. The right is the ward, where patients receive injections and IV drips. However, our clinic only operates during the day shift; there's no one on duty at night, so we don't keep patients overnight in the ward. Please be careful when you're there. Don't prescribe IV drips for patients after 4 p.m., or else no one will take care of them. Those who aren't in a hurry can wait until tomorrow, and those who are in a hurry can be taken to the military hospital."

At this point, Cao Yu smiled sheepishly. "But this kind of situation is extremely rare. We only encounter a few cases throughout the year. Just look at the size of our clinic and you'll understand. There aren't many patients during the day. Most serious cases go directly to the military hospital, not here."

Yun Qiao nodded: "I understand."

She came here just for the leisurely work.

Cao Yu continued, "The clinic is quite small, and there's not much work to do. There are only a few chronic patients who come here regularly. I'll give you their medical records later so you can familiarize yourself with them. Also, I'm leaving on September 7th, so I have one last week to stay here. Feel free to ask me anything you don't understand during this week."

Cao Yu pointed to the seat opposite her and said, "You can sit opposite me for the next few days. When I leave, you can move to my current seat."

Yun Qiao nodded: "Okay, Doctor Cao."

Yun Qiao sat opposite Cao Yu and took the information on chronic disease patients that she handed over and started to read it.

There were not many patients with chronic diseases, less than ten at most, so it looked fast. Yun Qiao spent half an hour reading the medical records, but the two nurses who claimed to have gone out to the bathroom had just returned.

The two were chatting and laughing, one of them was holding the tools for sewing shoe soles, and the other was knitting with a knitting needle in his white coat filled with wool.

From this we can see that the military uniform factory's clinic is indeed quiet, so quiet that if two nurses go out for half an hour, there is no need to worry about any patients coming.

Cao Yu introduced the two people's names to Yun Qiao and introduced Yun Qiao's identity to them.

Yun Qiao learned that the short-haired woman sewing shoe soles was named Gao Qian, she was almost thirty years old, unmarried, and her husband was an active-duty military officer.

The young girl knitting was not married yet. Her name was An Xiaomei and she was just twenty-one years old.

"Hello." Yun Qiao greeted them with a smile.

"Hello, Dr. Qin." Gao Qian smiled kindly.

"Hello." An Xiaomei acted rather cold.

After saying hello, An Xiaomei went straight to the pharmacy, while Gao Qian pulled a stool and sat next to the desk shared by Cao Yu and Yun Qiao.

Gao Qian saw Yun Qiao glance at the pharmacy and took the initiative to say, "Xiaomei has a high school education and is well-educated. She started working in our clinic when she was ten, even earlier than me. She's in charge of prescribing medicine and dispensing injections in the pharmacy, and I'm in charge of giving injections."

Yun Qiao nodded, indicating that he understood.

There were no patients coming to the clinic. While Gao Qian was sewing shoe soles, she curiously asked Yun Qiao, "Doctor Qin, you look really young. Are you already twenty years old?"

Yun Qiao shook his head: "Soon."

"You're really amazing! You're already a doctor before you're even 20." Gao Qian asked, "Did you go to medical school specifically for this, or did you learn from someone else?"

Yun Qiao smiled and said, "I learned it from someone."

There was no professional school experience in her file, and it would be known sooner or later, so she might as well speak out.

Anyway, the military uniform factory didn't require this, otherwise she wouldn't have been assigned here.

Gao Qian didn't think much of it and praised him, "You're really amazing! You've learned this at such a young age. I'm not that good. I've been in the clinic for three or four years, and I've only learned how to give people small injections. I can't even get the needle into a vein for an IV."

After saying that, she changed the subject: "By the way, I haven't asked you yet, is your father a soldier? Or are you married to an officer?"

Yun Qiao: "I married a soldier."

"No wonder you came here. It turns out you married a soldier." Gao Qian explained, "The military uniform factory doesn't recruit outsiders. The employees here are either retired soldiers or military dependents."

Yun Qiao nodded: "I know."

"For me, the job was assigned to me by the Military Resettlement Office. I waited in line for over a year for this position, and only took over after the person in front of me left. This was only because I arrived early and had two years of junior high school, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten such a good position. But that was three or four years ago. Nowadays, you need at least a high school degree to get such a good position."

Gao Qian asked Yun Qiao, "Doctor Qin, do you have a high school diploma?"

Yun Qiao nodded: "Yes."

"How long have you been waiting for this job?"

Yun Qiao replied, "Almost half a year."

Gao Qian said, "Actually, half a year is a short time. You're lucky. Dr. Cao's husband just retired and he's going back to his hometown with him, so there's a vacant position. Otherwise, you'd have to wait at least a year or two."
