edge
She reached the end...
Jiang Jingyuan stared blankly at the scenery ahead.
The sky and the earth were vast, with mountains of corpses and seas of blood piling up. Jiang Jingyuan stood in the blood-colored lake and slowly raised her head. She saw the layers of treetops faintly exposed behind the mountains of corpses and seas of blood. A corner of the lush treetops was covered with a layer of light gray-white by a gauze-like mist.
Jiang Jingyuan tilted his head back, feeling cold all over.
She should have thought of it earlier...
The series of turmoil actually made her forget to think about this.
Jiang Jingyuan…was currently standing at the edge of a vast, deep pit filled with corpses. A gentle breeze, tinged with the blood and stench of decay, blew gently, and her embroidered dress, half goose yellow and half blood-stained, rippled like waves…
She froze in place.
"What are you trying to do by creating this blood pit here...?" Jiang Jingyuan curled up the fingers of her drooping hands. For some reason, when she thought of this, she suddenly felt a strong sense of uneasiness in her heart.
She pursed her lips, not caring about the sticky coldness on her hands. She didn't dare to stay any longer and tried to climb up along the edge of the blood pit.
“Wow—”
A sound like a torrent of water suddenly erupted from behind. Jiang Jingyuan was startled and turned to look in the direction of the sound.
Before she saw the movement at the source of the sound, she saw bloody figures standing up quickly in the sea of corpses and blood, shouting "Oh shit!" in unison.
“Patta, patta, patta…”
Those bloody men ran away without even looking back!
Jiang Jingyuan stopped where he was, his gaze avoiding the running bloody man and looking towards the distance.
At the junction of gray and dark red, a large amount of black water poured down, rushing and gradually covering the blood red at a very fast speed.
Jiang Jingyuan frowned slightly, looked carefully, and saw... heads moving in the black tide?
Before she could see the full picture of those things, there was a loud "boom", the earth shook, and the temperature around suddenly soared. Jiang Jingyuan saw a dark mountain standing on the horizon.
It was a huge monster covered in black pus. It moved its fat body extremely slowly down the bloody pit, crushing the surging black tide and old corpses.
Accompanied by countless sharp howls, wherever it passed, large pits of flesh and blood were instantly burned out due to the high temperature on its surface. "Gurgle Gurgle..." As it moved, large amounts of blood continued to boil and bubble.
The huge dark figure was so twisted and weird that it was hard to describe. Jiang Jingyuan did not run away in a hurry. Her gaze moved cautiously for a while, and finally fell on the huge eye socket where the thing was obviously missing an eyeball.
"What's going on...was he hurt?"
The scorching wind slapped her face. Jiang Jingyuan was confused, but she knew she couldn't stay any longer. She turned around and climbed up to the edge of the deep pit at a rapid speed.
“Ah-ah! Ah! What the hell!!!”
"Get out of here! Get out of here!"
"What are these?! Why are these things here?!!"
Suddenly, panicked screams were heard from above. Jiang Jingyuan paused, and a bloody figure rolled down from the pile of corpses and landed heavily in front of Jiang Jingyuan's feet.
The pile of white bones shattered in an instant, covering a large sea of blood. Jiang Jingyuan lowered his eyes and saw the bloody figure in front of his feet staring at him in horror with a pair of bloodshot eyes. His mouth was wide open, and dark red blood gurgled out of his mouth and nose.
He stared at Jiang Jingyuan above him, his mouth opening and closing as if he wanted to ask for help, but after three or two breaths, his whole body completely collapsed and motionless.
Perhaps the emotion in his last glance was too strong, Jiang Jingyuan's pupils trembled inexplicably, and he forced himself to look away with a chill all over his body, and raised his head slightly to look upwards.
Amid the familiar howling of "Wow-Wow-Wow-Wow," Jiang Jingyuan saw countless blood-red figures falling screaming from the pile of corpses one after another, as well as a large group of dark gray strange birds with human faces hovering above the gray-white mist.
They stretched out their bird feathers, which were as long as an adult's arm, and their dark grey feathers with dots of pearl fell slowly. Red light flashed in their dark eyes, and they shouted excitedly, "Wow - wow - wow -" as they patrolled the high mountain of bones and corpses that looked like a stairway to heaven.
One after another, blood-red figures struggled to pounce out of the deep pit, and the black swarm of strange birds with human faces swooped down at once. A deep crack instantly appeared on the twisted human faces with peeling and sticky skin. They revealed their densely packed fangs and excitedly bit the bloody people.
"ah!!!"
"Ah—get out! Get out!"
Amidst the interwoven screams and cries of pain, the black crowd of strange human-faced birds flapped their long wings downwards, and blood-red figures, one after another, screamed and fell backwards onto the pile of corpses.
"Plop, plop" and "crack, crack" were the bloody figures of all sizes, forming a sea of corpses and blood.
The dark gray bird with a human face flapped its wings, looked at the dark figure as tall as a hill in the distance, and flew back to the sky above the mist with satisfaction but also fear, circling there.
Jiang Jingyuan remained motionless, her voice ringing with wailing and cries for help. The wind behind her grew even hotter, and she could feel the blood around her taking on a warmth. She heard the gurgling of a heavy object moving behind her and the bubbling sound of a sea of boiling blood.
Jiang Jingyuan's heart sank. She turned her head back and forth, observing the surroundings and replaying her own route to the edge of the pit. From time to time, she glanced at the dark gray figure patrolling the sky, comparing the time she could buy by fighting these birds head-on with the terrifying pressure that she didn't know if it would appear again...
"I wonder if those people think the situation here is a sure thing and are no longer paying attention to it..." Jiang Jingyuan thought rapidly in his mind, "Otherwise, if they saw that I was still alive, why haven't they taken action yet?"
She didn't think the people who created these things would suddenly become so patient and magnanimous. Jiang Jingyuan thought that even if those people thought she was doomed, they would definitely choose to vent their anger on her before she died.
And they have not been seen since then, are they... gone?
Jiang Jingyuan's eyes moved slightly.
"Don't go! Don't go! Listen to me!"
Jiang Jingyuan paused, and groups of bloody people ran past her in panic, and no one looked back.
"Don't go! You're going to die if you go!"
The man with the softer voice was getting anxious, but his voice was still timid: "We can't escape from here alone! Only by uniting can we survive!"
However, the bloody figures screamed and fled in all directions without even pausing, and it was unclear whether they did not hear or did not care or did not trust.
Jiang Jingyuan ignored him and jumped onto the pile of floating corpses and bones, and quickly walked up the stairs.
The black tide from behind was surging and covering them, and the piles of corpses were shaking rapidly. The scorching wind set off a heat wave rolling on the sea of blood.
Jiang Jingyuan's feet were unstable, and her whole body was shaking and swaying left and right with the pile of corpses. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw bloody figures falling one after another not far away.
“Thump, thump…”
"ah!!!"
One after another, bloody figures fell into the sea of blood below, and suddenly a shrill scream was heard.
"Gurgle gurgle..." Before the dark figure as big as a mountain moved close, the boiling sea of blood easily melted away a layer of flesh and blood of countless figures in the black tide and people who fell into the sea.
Listening to the screams that kept ringing and then stopping, the people who were clinging to the mountain of corpses had veins bulging on their foreheads and beads of sweat rolled down their foreheads. They looked upwards, but did not dare to climb up rashly.
Jiang Jingyuan was also forced to stop halfway. The hot wind from behind instantly dried her blood-stained dress. She stood on the corpse, looking at the figure that stopped above her, and the strange human-faced bird flying low in the mist, ready to take off, and her brows furrowed.
"Are we just waiting to die here howling? Hurry up and work together to prevent those strange birds from rushing out!" A man shouted sternly not far away from the side.
Jiang Jingyuan felt that the voice sounded familiar. He turned around and saw the figure surrounded by several people. It was the person Jiang Jingyuan tentatively identified as the Prince of Yu Kingdom.
There was still blood on his face that he hadn't had time to wipe clean, and his features were wrinkled in impatience. He said, "What are you all doing here?! Are you waiting to die or do you want to retreat into the boiling water? Hurry up and leave!"
"What the hell are you barking about?! Who doesn't want to leave? Aren't we all just waiting for the right opportunity?! Are you in a hurry to die?! If you want to die, then go now!" One person cursed back rudely with a ferocious expression.
With death imminent, even though everyone knew this man's status was extraordinary, no one cared about it anymore. It was a time of extreme irritation, and everyone's faces were grim.
As soon as these words were spoken, Prince Yu was instantly enraged, his features twisted. His heart was beating wildly, as if he had never suffered such an injustice before. He glared at the person who spoke, too angry to speak:
"You, you! You..."
"Shut up!" someone shouted angrily, "What are you yelling about! The things behind us are catching up! If you don't want to be dragged down and used as a scapegoat, then climb up quickly!!"
Everyone was startled and looked back hurriedly, seeing the gradually thinning black tide quickly climbing up the pile of corpses. Pitch-black faces with large pieces of melted flesh and blood were raised high, staring at the people above, their yellow eyes emitting strong emotions that were too complex to interpret.
Just one glance can make people feel an indescribable sense of creepiness.
"The one above, please leave quickly!!!"
“Don’t push! Don’t push, ahhh, I want to, I want to fall—Ahh!!!”
"Go by the side, go by the side! Go ahead, don't push me—get out! I told you not to push me!"
The people on the pile of corpses climbed up in a panic, bumping into the people around them as they climbed.
Amidst the shouts of "What are you doing?!" and "Why did you bump into me?! Get down!", Jiang Jingyuan did not move up any further. He clung firmly to the pile of corpses and looked up.
Several bloody figures had already reached the top. They tried their best to resist the swooping human-faced birds, but they were unable to move forward and leave the deep pit and return to the woods.
"Damn it! I told you to work together to charge out, but you guys kicked others down?!!" Prince Yu was stuck in the middle of the road and could not move forward or backward, and he immediately said angrily.
"Then take out the good stuff first! You guys in the immortal sect all have magical weapons to protect yourself, where do we have these things?! Bullshit joint efforts, you're not willing to use those good treasures, don't you mean to pave the way for you!"
Prince Yu immediately stared at the speaking figure unkindly.
The man was not afraid of his threat at all and glared back at him fiercely.
"That's right! It's easy for others to talk, but how dare you say this from behind?!" Another person finally found an outlet and burst into tears, "If you hadn't been yelling earlier, would these things have come here?!"
Prince Yu's face flushed red and blue. Before he could say anything, the guards accompanying him shouted, "How dare you! Stop spreading rumors and misleading the people! These things are already here. What does their presence have to do with His Highness?!"
"You're still using your power to overpower others in a life-or-death situation?! What do I care about you? If it weren't for you, would these things have arrived so quickly?!"
"I've seen you before! The cunning man! The cunning master is different. He says he's upholding justice, but in reality, he wants to push us out as stepping stones!"
I don’t know if they felt they had no other way out, but both sides started cursing and fighting while clinging to the pile of corpses.
Prince Yu, covered in blood, had a gloomy expression on his face. He bit his lower lip tightly and said nothing.
