Three cobblers, but using two of them is enough to make a huge difference.
The saying "a new broom sweeps clean" certainly applies to Fan Siwen. However, it's not entirely accurate to say that their very first act was to target them.
After all, appearances matter in official circles. Mo Yang and his two companions had just returned to the lab when they received a notification in the main group chat regarding the investigation and handling of data leaks at Song Yize's lab.
The notice stated that Song Yize bore primary responsibility for the data breach and that he would have six months' salary deducted as a warning to others.
The notice sounded ridiculous. Mo Yang glanced at it; it seemed they only knew how to deduct wages, nothing else. He checked his bank balance. Fortunately, he had taken the opportunity to sign up for part-time work last time, with wages paid per shift, which was sufficient for Mo Yang.
Mo Yang didn't take it seriously.
Fan Siwen was quite careful.
Before dinner, Fan Siwen walked up to Mo Yang and said, "From now on, we'll be brothers who share weal and woe. Mo Yang and I have discussed it, and we'll give you half of our salary for these six months."
Hearing the first sentence startled Mo Yang; he thought this person was going to become his sworn brother.
Thankfully, there's the sentence that comes after that.
Mo Yang reached out and patted Fan Siwen's head. "I appreciate the thought, but I don't need the money. I have enough."
After saying that, he didn't forget to rub it vigorously.
Fan Siwen quickly stepped aside, tidying her hair as she muttered, "If you don't want it, fine, but you went too far. You only bully me, why didn't you rub Mo Yang's head?"
Mo Yang smiled and replied, "He doesn't like it."
The two spoke in unison.
How do you know I don't like it?
"I like him even if he doesn't like me!"
Well, Mo Yang has muted his microphone.
The three of them arrived at the cafeteria early for dinner. Fan Siwen brought out a table full of dishes, saying he was treating them to celebrate the official formation of their trio.
Mo Yang stared blankly at the various sizes of plates on the table. Others passing by would glance in their direction and give them a look.
Mo Yang thought this person was simply pretentious and tried to escape several times, but Fan Siwen firmly pinned him to the table.
“If you dare to leave, I’ll shout that Professor Song Yize didn’t pay for his meal.”
Well, that perfectly matches the notice issued at noon.
Although Mo Yang isn't someone who cares a lot about saving face, he still wants to prove himself, doesn't he?
He pulled his feet in and sat there obediently.
In contrast, the boy next to him seemed quite calm, sitting and eating steadily, much like someone who had seen a lot.
Mo Yang asked him curiously, "Does the quantum computing center often have social engagements?"
"I'm not too sure about that, and even if it does, it probably doesn't concern us much. But when I was studying abroad, I often attended parties, so I'm used to a lot of things," Mo Yang said while eating, his manner extremely refined.
"You're surrounded by two Ryuko now. Don't make any rash moves. Let me tell you, Ryuko is not someone to be trifled with."
"Who isn't a Liuzi?" Mo Yang said, setting aside his chopsticks and swallowing the food in his mouth.
"What? You said you saw it on TV last time. Were you lying to me?"
"Shh, don't be so loud, it makes you look stupid." Mo Yang made a shushing gesture, which made Fan Siwen so angry that she went crazy.
Mo Yang joined in the fun.
"I don't care, I've been wronged, I'm not treating you to this meal." Fan Siwen started acting like a rogue.
"Once a move is made, there's no going back. A real man keeps his word. If you can't handle the game, don't play it."
"I……"
Fan Siwen couldn't beat him, so she had no choice but to lower her head and eat.
This was the first time in his life he had ever felt so humiliated while hosting a dinner party.
Although the small group was formed when no one around them was optimistic about it, and it went against Mo Yang's original intentions at the beginning.
But who can say that this won't be the most exciting thing for the entire institute this year, or even so far?
The professor, who was once considered the best in the institute, has now suffered a dramatic drop in reputation, and even being associated with him has become a topic of jokes throughout the institute.
"Following Song Yize in experiments, nothing will succeed."
"With Song Yize in hand, you don't have a first-class paper."
Of course, this is not just a topic summarized during this period, but a collection of the glorious deeds of the three people who will follow.
The new broom sweeps clean, but now he's going to start another fire, isn't he?
There's no point in just burning through money. The new leader is indeed a leader; he has quite a few tricks up his sleeve.
Sure enough, two people were delivered the very next day.
They said, "In order for the project to proceed more smoothly, supervisors are necessary. The two of them can assist you in monitoring the progress of the experimental work and ensure that the progress is effectively advanced."
Such a high-sounding statement was uttered so brazenly.
Mo Yang really wanted to hit him after hearing that.
Mo Yang arrived a little late. As soon as he entered, he saw two soldiers in military uniforms standing there and almost thought he had gone to the wrong place.
He went outside and took another look at the house number.
Only then did I cautiously walk in again.
"You've come to the right place, come in." Mo Yang saw the situation and handed him a message to confirm.
Fan Siwen turned around upon hearing the sound and saw the bewildered Mo Yang. "Trust your vision. We are the best team in the entire research institute. We have military officers as guards that no one else has."
After saying that, he didn't forget to say to the two men at the door, "Soldiers, you've worked hard. Just let me know if you need some water, and I'll run errands for you."
The seemingly harmonious laboratory is, in fact, quite harmonious.
However, it was indeed quite tiring.
For the past few days, the three of them have only been able to eat at set times, have only 3 minutes to go to the toilet, and have to work overtime after get off work, because they are still far from completing the required tasks.
Looking at the task plan, Mo Yang thought it was something no human could have done; there was no way they could complete the task within the allotted time.
He needs to think of a solution.
For the first few days, Fan Siwen could still complain a bit, "It's all your fault for having such a bad mouth, saying that we should work overtime all night. If we do, we'll die from overtime."
Then there was no sound at all.
I went back to my dorm and fell asleep immediately, without even bothering to style my hair. I ended up looking disheveled at work.
That day, Mo Yang pretended to call Fan Siwen over to check the data.
"What you've made is completely wrong."
Mo Yang, who was standing to the side, listened to Song Yize suddenly get angry and silently took sides out of the corner of his eye.
Fan Siwen, still puzzled, took another step closer to Mo Yang and explained, "This was derived using this formula. This curve perfectly illustrates the change in energy value during this segment. As the curve rises, the energy required here also increases accordingly..."
Fan Siwen was still explaining his entire experimental results in a daze when, out of the corner of his eye, he saw a few short words that Mo Yang had typed on his phone: "The surveillance footage has been changed to be invisible to everyone."
Fan Siwen, who was still in a daze, suddenly snapped out of it and became extremely alert.
Back in her seat, she pretended to be angry and muttered something to Mo Yang.
"You get upset when I say something to you after you make a mistake? I can't teach a student like you. Go be with whoever you want."
"Do you think I have to be with you? I'm not that capable myself."
Mo Yang walked towards Fan Siwen, his face taut, as if a physical fight between humans was inevitable.
The officer standing at the door came over to mediate.
The hand that was tearing at the collar was pulled down by two people.
Mo Yang glared fiercely at Fan Siwen.
Fan Siwen was also a little angry. He was panting heavily. He glanced at the soldier standing to the side and walked to the door. "I'm going to the restroom to calm down."
After saying that, he opened the door and went out.
The soldiers clearly did not stop him.
Upon arriving at the restroom, Fan Siwen quickly squeezed into a stall and began operating the controls rapidly, her movements as nimble as a flying squirrel speeding along a wheel.
Not long after, Fan Siwen finished her work, washed her face at the sink, and then came out, pretending to have calmed down.
A soldier was standing at the bathroom door. Fan Siwen responded with a fake smile, "It's okay, I'm fine. You still know to come out and check on me, unlike that heartless guy, that dog."
The sound of cursing was exceptionally clear.
Back in the lab, Fan Siwen was noticeably calmer.
Hearing the sound, Mo Yang looked up and saw Fan Siwen enter, then give him a wink. Although Mo Yang had no idea what was going on, it didn't seem to be anything serious. He lowered his head and continued with his work listlessly.
Time passed by, and nothing happened all afternoon.
Back in his dorm that evening, Mo Yang received a success signal from Fan Siwen and said weakly, "Just wait and see, we'll see a good show tomorrow."
Fan Siwen still complained indignantly, "You really went all out; my neck still hurts from pulling so hard."
"You're not going to hold back your words for so long, are you? You've been holding them in for so many days, and now you've finally let them all out."
Fan Siwen ignored him.
Mo Yang turned off the lights. "Go to sleep, go to sleep. Tomorrow I'll be full of energy to watch the drama unfold. If the show is good, I'll treat you to dinner."
"You said I wanted a big meal."
"I'll grant your wish."
Sure enough, the next morning, Mo Yang noticed something was wrong. The lab's surveillance cameras had clearly been tampered with, and several more sets had been added.
However, no matter how much is added, it's no problem for Fan Siwen.
Mo Yang was completely unaware of the changes, and of course, he was used to them. He looked listless as he went to the control panel.
In the short time it took for me to go to the restroom, several more people joined the lab.
Fan Siwen pushed open the door, saw the scene, and tilted her head in confusion, "What... what happened?"
Mo Yang remained silent, but glared at Fan Siwen.
The officer stared coldly at Mo Yang and Fan Siwen, then glanced at Mo Yang, who was working with his head down. "Has anything unusual happened recently?"
Mo Yang remained silent.
Fan Siwen glanced at everyone, his short fingers rubbing his chin. "If you're wondering what's unusual, have you noticed that the food in the cafeteria has become saltier?"
The officer in front of him remained unmoved, his cold eyes radiating even more chilling light. "I meant the laboratory."
"The lab, huh? The air conditioning has been set unusually low these past few days. Could you talk to the higher-ups and ask them not to skimp on electricity and to raise the temperature a few degrees? Getting sick will delay our progress, won't it?"
The officer ignored him, inspected the laboratory, gave some instructions to the two men at the door, and then left with his men.
Once the people had gone far away, Fan Siwen winked at Mo Yang, indicating that they had succeeded.
