Chapter 189 It's Impossible Between Us

As he approached Fang Qingyue's yard, the afterglow of the setting sun shone on the gate, and a few dusk birds stopped on the eaves, whispering.

He knocked on the door and waited quietly.

The courtyard door creaked open and Cheng Qingyuan stood at the door with a look of surprise on his face.

Li Chengfeng frowned slightly when he saw it was him: "Is Miss Fang here? I need to see her for something."

Cheng Qingyuan stepped aside to let Li Chengfeng enter the yard.

Li walked into the room and saw Fang Qingyue sitting aside, seemingly sorting something.

When she looked up and saw Li Chengfeng, her expression changed slightly, but then she quickly regained her composure.

"Master Li," Fang Qingyue's voice was still gentle, but with a hint of alienation. "Why are you here?"

When Li Chengfeng saw Fang Qingyue, a vague premonition in his heart gradually came true.

He glanced around the room and found that Fang Qingyue had already packed some simple clothes and placed several commonly used items neatly in the bag.

This scene made his heart sink.

"You...you're leaving too?"

There was a hint of urgency in Li Chengfeng's voice and a hint of expectation in his eyes.

Fang Qingyue nodded lightly, her tone calm: "Yes, I'm ready to leave here."

"Are you going to the capital?" Li Chengfeng's tone was a little anxious.

He subconsciously thought that Fang Qingyue might have decided to go back to Beijing with him because of Shen Yuhan.

Fang Qingyue shook her head, a faint bitter smile appeared on the corner of her mouth: "I am not going to the capital, Mr. Li."

"A place like the capital is not suitable for me or my children."

Her voice was soft, yet filled with unwavering determination.

Before he finished speaking, it was like a basin of cold water pouring out the last glimmer of hope in Li Chengfeng's heart.

He clenched his hands lightly, a hint of sadness flashed in his eyes, and his voice trembled slightly: "Where are you going?"

"If you don't go to the capital, then... can you tell me?"

Fang Qingyue looked at his lost expression and felt a little sorry in her heart, but she knew that some things had to be made clear.

She whispered, "I'm going to a faraway place, a place where no one knows me."

"I just want to lead an ordinary life with my children."

Li Chengfeng was stunned. The woman in front of him had her own direction and goals.

And he, in her world, is just a passer-by after all.

A feeling of powerlessness surged in Li Chengfeng's heart. He opened his mouth, but found that he had nothing to say.

The air suddenly became quiet. Fang Qingyue turned her head and looked at the setting sun outside the window. She said calmly, "Mr. Li, you and I shouldn't have been entangled so much."

"I know you're a good person, but we... are not destined to be on the same path."

Li Chengfeng's heart seemed to be hit hard, and a trace of pain flashed across his face.

He lowered his head, and after a moment he said in a low voice, "I understand, Miss Fang...I was overthinking it."

He forced a bitter smile and said, "I hope you can live the life you want."

After saying that, he turned around and slowly walked out of the yard with heavy steps.

As the sun sets, the sky south of the Yangtze River is dyed orange. The cool autumn wind blows through the town, picking up a few fallen leaves.

Fang Qingyue, Chi Yue and Cheng Qingyuan were standing next to the stable. They had just bought a strong reddish-brown horse and a sturdy carriage.

The horse's nostrils exhaled lightly, and its hooves kicked the ground restlessly, as if it could sense the unresolved heaviness in the hearts of its owners.

Cheng Qingyuan's parents stood at the street corner far away, their eyes full of reluctance.

They never expected that their son would be so determined to follow Fang Qingyue and leave Jiangnan, even to the point of putting aside family affairs.

"Qingyuan, do we really have to leave?"

Mother Cheng's voice was trembling, and the autumn wind made her sleeves rustle.

Cheng Qingyuan looked back at his parents, feeling a pang of pity in his heart.

Fang Qingyue stood beside the carriage and watched all this quietly.

Her eyes were calm, but her heart was turbulent.

She knew that Cheng Qingyuan's parents were reluctant to let him go, and they also knew that he had done too much for her.

"Mr. Cheng, Aunt Cheng, Uncle Cheng."

Fang Qingyue gently walked up to Cheng Qingyuan's parents and whispered, "Mr. Cheng, I am very grateful for your help to Chi Yue and me."

"But I don't even know where I'm going. I really can't bear to take Master Cheng with me."

A glimmer of hope flashed in Mother Cheng's eyes. She held Fang Qingyue's hand and pleaded in her voice, "Miss Fang, if you don't know where you've gone, then why don't you stay here for a while?"

"Qingyuan is our only son. If he dies too, we don't know when we'll see him again."

Fang Qingyue smiled slightly, her expression gentle, yet with unshakable determination: "Aunt Cheng, I am very grateful for your and Uncle Cheng's care."

"But Jiangnan is no longer a place where I can stay for long."

Although her voice was soft, it revealed a tenacity.

After hearing this, Cheng's mother's expression darkened, knowing that it was useless to dissuade her.

Doctor Cheng stood aside and asked in a deep voice, "Miss Fang, since you are leaving, where are you going? You must have a plan."

Fang Qingyue shook her head and replied in a low voice: "Uncle Cheng, I really don't have a specific place to go."

"I just thought, wherever I go is where I am, away from all the troubles."

"Wherever we go, that's where we'll end up."

Doctor Cheng frowned slightly, obviously worried about this kind of rootless life.

He looked at his son, with some dissatisfaction in his eyes, but more of helplessness.
