Fang Qingyue's voice was almost drowned by tears, and her hands were tightly gripping the edge of the bed, her knuckles turning white.
Shen Yuhan looked at her quietly, the pain in his heart growing deeper and deeper.
He reached out his hand and gently wiped away the tears on her face. His tone was gentle but full of endless determination: "No matter what happens, I will never let you leave again."
"I don't know what you've been through, but from today on, I will protect you and the child and will never let you suffer again."
Fang Qingyue's tears did not stop, and the pain in her heart almost made her breathless.
She couldn't escape anymore. Shen Yuhan's determination made her realize that even if she tried her best, she couldn't change his decision.
She could only watch as she was trapped in the cage he had built for her, unable to extricate herself.
At this moment, there were soft footsteps outside the door.
The door was pushed open and Fang Chiyue was brought in.
Fang Qingyue's eyes quickly wandered around the room, appearing flustered and uneasy.
She saw Fang Chiyue standing at the door, supported by a maid, groping forward with her hands.
Although Chi Yue couldn't see, she seemed to have sensed Fang Qingyue's emotional fluctuations, and her tone was a little anxious: "Sister, are you okay? I heard that you fainted, and I was scared."
Fang Qingyue exhaled lightly, trying to look calmer, forced a smile, and whispered, "I'm fine, Chi Yue, don't worry."
Although her voice was gentle, she felt like there was a huge rock pressing on her heart and she couldn't let it go.
Her eyes flashed slightly, and then she looked at Shen Yuhan, a more anxious question vaguely emerging in her mind.
Where's Cheng Qingyuan? Why isn't he here?
A strong premonition made her heart beat faster. Unable to suppress her inner anxiety, she asked anxiously, "Shen Yuhan, where is Cheng Qingyuan? Where is he?"
Shen Yuhan's face stiffened slightly when he heard this. Although he maintained a calm expression, a complex emotion flashed in his eyes.
He didn't answer immediately, as if he was thinking about something.
When Fang Qingyue saw his expression, she felt even more uneasy, and her chest felt like it was being pulled by a tight string, causing pain.
"What happened to him?" Fang Qingyue's tone became more urgent, with an almost uncontrollable anxiety in her voice, "What did you do to him?!"
Shen Yuhan raised his head, with a hint of comfort in his eyes, but his tone was still low and steady: "Qingyue, don't worry, he's fine."
Fang Qingyue frowned. She felt that Shen Yuhan's answer was vague, and this uncertainty made her feel even more doubtful.
Shen Yuhan never lets go easily of anyone who poses a threat to her, especially those he considers dangerous.
She even began to doubt whether Shen Yuhan had done something to Cheng Qingyuan.
"I must see him!" Fang Qingyue suddenly pulled back the quilt. Although she was weak, she moved without hesitation and prepared to get out of bed.
As soon as her feet touched the ground, the fetus in her belly moved and the slight pain came again.
But she didn't stop. She supported herself on the edge of the bed with her hands and stood up despite the discomfort.
"Qingyue!" There was a hint of uneasiness in Shen Yuhan's voice. He took a few steps forward, held her shoulders, and pushed her back onto the bed.
His movements were gentle but irresistible, but his tone was firm: "You can't do this. This is the critical period of pregnancy, five or six months, your body can't withstand this kind of torture!"
Fang Qingyue's brows were tightly furrowed, her heart filled with mixed emotions, and tears glistened in her eyes.
She didn't want to hear this, didn't want to be trapped in this seemingly gentle cage anymore.
She grabbed Shen Yuhan's sleeve tightly, her eyes full of determination: "Tell me where he is! Otherwise, I will go find him myself!"
Shen Yuhan looked at her with a look of despair and felt helpless.
He originally didn't want her to worry too much, so as not to affect her mood and the health of the fetus.
But at this point he knew that hiding it would only make her more anxious.
He took a deep breath and softened his voice a little: "Cheng Qingyuan has been sent back by me. He will not appear here again."
"The most important thing for you now is to take good care of your baby and stop torturing yourself."
She nodded weakly, and responded almost mechanically: "I understand."
When Shen Yuhan saw that she agreed, the anxiety in her heart eased a little.
After Shen Yuhan left the room, the cool breeze from the corridor blew towards him, calming him down a little from his tension.
But the worry in my heart did not diminish in the slightest.
He was lost in thought all the way, his brows furrowed.
After returning to the study, just as I was about to deal with official business, an urgent letter was delivered to the desk.
The envelope was stamped with the imperial seal. His eyes sank slightly, and he had already guessed the content of the letter.
After opening the letter, as he expected, the palace once again urged him to return to Beijing.
The situation in the capital was complicated, and the affairs of the court were piling up. His long stay in the local area had caused discussion among some ministers in the court.
Although the emperor did not say it explicitly, the urging between the lines of the letter revealed his dissatisfaction.
Shen Yuhan sat at the desk, the letter in his hand swaying gently in the candlelight.
The palace's urging forced him to face reality. After all, he could not stay here for long and could not always stay by Fang Qingyue's side.
But when he thought of her current situation, he struggled internally.
That pale and weak face and eyes filled with tears made him feel extremely heartbroken.
He couldn't imagine leaving her, couldn't let her face the storms of the world alone anymore.
Shen Yuhan closed his eyes, his fingers unconsciously stroking the letter paper.
