Chapter 221 A Clever Plan

The smile on Li Dequan's face froze instantly, and he couldn't help feeling anxious.

The court is in chaos now, and His Majesty has always relied heavily on Lord Shen.

Once the imperial edict was issued, the ban should have been lifted smoothly, but who would have thought that Shen Yuhan would use this as an excuse and was unwilling to leave the house?

He became increasingly anxious and quickly stepped forward to persuade him, "My Lord, you are a pillar of the court. Without your assistance, how can His Majesty maintain stability?"

"Right now, border defense is urgent and internal affairs are controversial. His Majesty is eager for you to return to the palace. I hope you will not refuse again."

Shen Yuhan's expression was indifferent, with a cold light flashing in his eyes. He said coldly: "I did do it. Your Majesty confined me to my room as a punishment."

"I should reflect on my past, but I haven't fully repented yet, so it's not appropriate for me to come forward too soon."

Li Dequan was stunned when he heard this.

He didn't expect that Shen Yuhan would refuse to reinstate his post on the grounds of "repentance".

This sounds reasonable and seems to uphold the relationship between the ruler and his subjects.

But he knew in his heart that Shen Yuhan's move clearly had ulterior motives.

No matter how Li Dequan persuaded him, Shen Yuhan remained unmoved.

He sat upright in his study, his eyes calm and composed, as if all the changes in the world had nothing to do with him.

Li Dequan was helpless and had no choice but to leave Shen's house and return to the palace to report.

When Li Dequan hurried back to the palace and reported Shen Yuhan's "repentance" to the emperor.

The emperor was standing in front of the window, his eyes deep and his face tired.

Upon hearing that Shen Yuhan was unwilling to leave the house, the emperor's face instantly turned pale and his anger was almost uncontrollable.

"presumptuous!"

The emperor suddenly waved his sleeves and overturned an unfinished memorial on the table.

The memorial papers were scattered on the ground, and the red ink on the paper had not yet dried, staining it bright red.

"Shen Yuhan is deliberately opposing me!"

"I personally issued an order, and you dare not refuse!"

"Do you really think that Shen Yuhan controls the world?"

The emperor was furious, his tone revealing a hint of uncontrollable anger.

Since Shen Yuhan was put under house arrest, the emperor gradually realized that the situation in the court was becoming increasingly difficult to control, and his dependence on Shen Yuhan became deeper and deeper.

I personally issued an edict today, and I thought he would be able to leave the palace smoothly to assist in the overall situation.

Unexpectedly, Shen Yuhan refused to resume his post on the grounds of repentance, which really embarrassed the emperor.

Li Dequan knelt on the ground, trembling and not daring to say anything.

He knew in his heart that the emperor's anger was not just directed at Shen Yuhan's rejection.

He felt even more frustrated because of the predicament in the court and his own powerlessness.

The emperor scolded for a moment, his face still gloomy.

The cabinet ministers were silent, with complicated expressions.

I dared neither to agree casually nor to make rash suggestions.

The emperor paced back and forth in the hall with hurried steps, and the atmosphere was so oppressive that it made people breathless.

"Shen Yuhan...Shen Yuhan!"

The emperor repeated the name with gnashing teeth, as if he wanted to call him back and give him a severe scolding.

But the rationality in his heart told him that the current situation in the court was already complicated.

If Shen Yuhan continues to be absent, the situation will probably become even more difficult to handle.

"Decree!" The emperor suddenly stopped and turned to look at Li Dequan, his eyes as sharp as a knife. "Since Shen Yuhan claims to admit his mistakes, then I will reward him."

"Reward?" Li Dequan was stunned for a moment, then immediately responded, "I understand."

The emperor said coldly, "Give me some more gold, silver, treasures, silk and brocade to make my attitude clear!"

The emperor's tone was filled with suppressed anger, but also helplessness.

Li Dequan nodded quickly and left in a hurry.

On the other side, in the study of the Shen Mansion, the smoke from the incense burner was curling.

The desk was full of books, and the cold autumn light shone through the window lattice onto Shen Yuhan's face.

He sat behind his desk, his expression calm, his eyes lowered, holding an unfinished book in his hands.

The turmoil in the outside world seems to have nothing to do with him. He is as calm as a rock and behaves indifferently.

But the silence was soon broken by the hurried footsteps outside the door.

A servant came in briskly and said respectfully, "My Lord, Eunuch Li Dequan from the palace is here again."

Shen Yuhan raised his eyes slightly, and his brows frowned slightly.

This eunuch Li Dequan came again since the last time he delivered the imperial edict.

It seems that the emperor is quite dissatisfied with his delay in leaving the house.

He gently closed the book, his voice still cold: "Send him in."

A moment later, Li Dequan hurried into the study.

There was anxiety between his brows, but he still forced himself to smile.

He stepped forward, bowed respectfully, and said with a smile, "My Lord, His Majesty has specially sent this servant to convey his decree."

Shen Yuhan nodded calmly, without standing up, and said calmly: "Please teach me, eunuch."

Li Dequan sighed secretly in his heart. He had been to the Shen Mansion several times and had long been accustomed to Shen Yuhan's cold attitude.

Then, he took out a roll of yellow silk from his sleeve and slowly unfolded it: "By the will of Heaven, the Emperor has decreed that Marquis Shen has made great contributions to the government and has expressed remorse. I am very pleased to see this."

"I will give you gold, silver, jewels, silk and brocade as a token of my gratitude."

"I hope you will diligently cultivate yourself and assist the state in future affairs with even greater loyalty and selflessness. I decree this."

Shen Yuhan was silent for a moment, and a cold light flashed in his eyes.

Then he slowly stood up, his body as straight as a pine tree.

He nodded slightly and said, "Since Your Majesty has given me a reward, I shall respectfully obey your command."

Before he finished speaking, he gently stroked the military book on the table, then turned and left the study.

Shen Yuhan walked straight out of the mansion, mounted his horse in a few steps, and headed straight for the palace.

All officials gathered in the hall.

The atmosphere in the court today was particularly heavy, and the ministers were all worried about the theft of military rations.
