The sky is like a dark blue curtain, the stars are sparse, and the moonlight is like water spreading across the vast land.
Shen Yuhan stood outside the tent, listening to the occasional laughter coming from afar.
I know that after the soldiers had this meal of roast lamb, their mood finally improved.
The atmosphere in the army also became noticeably more relaxed, and the low morale gradually recovered. The effect of this bonfire dinner exceeded his expectations.
However, Shen Yuhan never completely relaxed in his heart.
He knew very well that the enemy had been eyeing him covetously.
His arrival will inevitably be detected by spies, and once the enemy discovers his presence.
They will definitely take action to weaken their own strength before the war starts.
Shen Yuhan had been prepared for this kind of secret attack.
As a battle-hardened general, he never allowed himself to indulge in temporary victory or comfort.
As the night deepened, the cold wind blew up the yellow sand, making a rustling sound, as if whispering the solemn atmosphere of the frontier.
Right inside Shen Yuhan’s military camp, in the darkness in the distance.
Several pairs of dark eyes stared at the camp where the campfire was gradually dying.
Not far away, several enemy assassins were lurking behind a hill, observing the movements in the camp.
The leading assassin was short and stocky, with a black scarf covering his face and a cold glint in his eyes.
"This is Shen Yuhan's camp."
He whispered, a hint of disdain in his tone.
"The Emperor's trusted generals are nothing more than this. The cold night at the frontier is just a moment of revelry for them."
"Once we take action, they won't even be able to wake up from their sleep."
The assassin next to him murmured in agreement, "Yes, I heard that he just arrived at the border, and the army hasn't even started fighting yet, yet he's holding such a grand banquet. It seems that he is just like that."
The leading assassin raised his lips slightly, a murderous look flashing in his eyes: "We will take action while they are drunk."
"As long as Shen Yuhan can be assassinated, the border war can be easily won."
After saying that, he waved his hand gently.
Several dark figures slid down the hill silently and quickly, sneaking towards the camp like a gust of black wind.
The camp was gradually becoming quiet, and most of the soldiers had fallen asleep after the bonfire party.
The dim lights flickered between the tents, and there was a slight snoring sound in the wind.
Shen Yuhan's tent was a little far from the main camp, surrounded by swaying tree shadows.
The moonlight shines through the branches and leaves, casting a mottled shadow on the ground.
The assassins were agile and moved lightly, as if blending into the night.
They slowly approached Shen Yuhan's tent with skillful movements.
One of them took out a short blade, the sharp edge of which gleamed coldly in the moonlight.
However, just as they were about to approach Shen Yuhan's tent.
A low shout suddenly rang out from the shadows: "Who is it?"
Following this alert rebuke, the assassins were startled.
Before he could react, an arrow flew through the air and headed straight for the chest of the leading assassin.
The assassin was quick and dodged sideways.
But I still felt the cold air passing through my neck, and cold sweat instantly soaked my back.
"There's an ambush!" he whispered, and the other assassins instantly dispersed, drew their weapons, and quickly prepared for a counterattack.
Shen Yuhan had already anticipated the assassination and personally set up an ambush.
The guards hidden around quickly moved out and surrounded the enemy assassins from all directions.
Armed with bows and arrows, they quickly surrounded the assassin.
"It seems that the enemy is really eyeing me covetously."
Shen Yuhan slowly walked out of the tent, his eyes as calm as ice, but his tone was somewhat indifferent, "It's just that you underestimated me."
The leading assassin's expression changed drastically. He never expected that this assassination would be discovered so easily.
He stared at Shen Yuhan, a hint of fear flashed in his eyes, but more of it was unwillingness.
He knew that his plan had failed at this point, and he couldn't help but feel an urge to retreat.
"Retreat!" He shouted, signaling the other assassins to escape in the chaos.
Several assassins immediately turned around and prepared to break out of the encirclement.
However, Shen Yuhan was prepared and gave an order.
The personal soldiers around him took action one after another, shooting arrows and accurately blocking their retreat.
The leading assassin hurriedly took out a pill of poison from his bosom and was about to put it into his mouth.
But Shen Yuhan was quick-witted and shouted coldly, "Stop him!"
A personal soldier quickly took action and snatched the poison from the assassin's hand.
Another soldier struck with lightning speed, snapping the assassin's jaw.
Before the assassin could react, the poison in his mouth had been taken away.
A hoarse groan came from his throat, and his eyes were full of shock.
Shen Yuhan stepped forward, his eyes stern as he looked down at the assassin: "Do you think you can kill me with these little tricks? Tell me, who sent you?"
The assassin's eyes were filled with anger as he tried to struggle, but due to his dislocated jaw he was unable to speak and could only make vague growls.
Shen Yuhan looked at his stubborn expression and smiled coldly: "Take him away and interrogate him slowly."
The guards quickly took the assassin to the dungeon in the tent for interrogation.
Shen Yuhan stood there, his eyes deep, thinking secretly in his heart.
The appearance of these assassins was not unexpected. The enemy must have known of his arrival and regarded him as a thorn in their side.
Today's assassination is just the beginning, there will definitely be more actions to come.
He understood that the enemy was trying to use this method to shake the morale of the troops and make them lose their commander before the battle.
But Shen Yuhan knew better that if he showed any weakness, the enemy's offensive would become even more fierce.
At this moment, only by being more vigilant and keeping our footing can we take the initiative in the next battle.
