Two adults, who were not in good spirits, sat in a warehouse piled high with goods. They only managed to perk up when they heard footsteps.
They spent the entire night sleepless, racking their brains, but couldn't come up with any useful solutions.
Without manpower, even the best methods are useless when facing those assassins.
A guard entered and said, "The young mistress of the Meng family has arrived."
Lord Yao waved his hand: "Bring him in."
The guard replied, "Yes."
Instead of leaving immediately, he spoke again: "I ran into Prefect Liu at the yamen just now."
"Prefect Liu saw that Madam Meng was very angry and said a lot of threatening things before leaving."
Lord Yao's face darkened, and he looked at Yu Qian with extreme seriousness.
He dared to do this because he was clearly confident in his abilities.
The words on that note are most likely true.
Yu Qian pressed his forehead: "Bring her in first, let's hear what she has to say."
The guard was somewhat displeased. Like his master, he was straightforward and spoke his mind: "Prefect Liu is threatening her parents and relatives with their lives. Lord Yu probably won't get any useful information out of her."
Yu Qian remained unmoved, his tone indifferent: "I understand."
Seeing his cold attitude, the guard hesitated for a moment before awkwardly explaining, "She is the woman who saved that child yesterday. I hope Lord Yu will show some mercy later, so as not to give the impression that we are all like Lord Liu."
After saying this, he went out the door.
Wei Wei followed the guards in.
"grown ups."
She merely glanced at them briefly before lowering her head and bowing respectfully.
Yao Zidian felt apologetic when he heard the guard mention it.
Looking at this calm woman, his tone softened: "It's just a routine question. Don't take Prefect Liu's words to heart."
Wei Wei nodded.
Yao Zidian asked, "Do you still remember why you clashed with Prefect Liu last time?"
Wei Wei said, "Of course I remember. Would you like to hear it, sir?"
"Tell me about it."
Wei Wei thought for a moment and then started talking about Princess Jiang Changhe.
“That noble lady from the capital, Jiang Changhe, is willful and capricious. She went mad at my father-in-law and grandmother’s funeral over some trivial quarrel. No matter how afraid I am, I cannot let her disgrace the Meng family.”
"Unfortunately, my report to the police was of no use. In the end, I was the only one who was targeted and humiliated by Prefect Liu."
When she spoke of this, she seemed extremely sad and aggrieved. She held the handkerchief to the corner of her eye for a long time before slowly putting it down.
Yao Zidian felt as if a tsunami was raging in his heart.
The Third Prince Jiang Luan was already considered one of the best among the many princes.
There was nothing wrong with him going out for a trip with the Seventh Prince, but it was incredibly strange that he brought Jiang Changhe along and deliberately bought a house in Loucheng to live in.
They couldn't have just wanted to kill him; they must have something bigger planned!
What is their purpose?
Yao Zidian pondered deeply with a somber expression.
Yu Qian, who had been silent all along, spoke up while looking at Wei Wei.
“Mrs. Meng, I have heard that you are now the only one living in the entire Meng family.”
Wei Wei looked up at the young but formidable Vice Minister of Justice. The mist in her eyes had not yet completely dissipated, but after his question, it slowly filled her eyes again.
She wiped away her tears and nodded: "That's true."
“My husband and mother-in-law have disappeared, and my father-in-law and grandmother were murdered and died of anger, respectively.”
“My second uncle was imprisoned by Jiang Changhe’s third brother, and my second aunt has divorced and returned to her parents’ home.”
"The Meng family is now on the verge of collapse, and it could fall at any time."
She looked very sad, and there were tears in the corners of her eyes.
However, Yu Qian showed no sympathy whatsoever. His gaze lingered on her beautiful face, and the suspicion in his eyes grew stronger.
"So, in the entire Meng family, you're the only one still alive and well?"
"Madam Meng, how is your relationship with the young master of the Meng family?"
Wei Wei's expression finally stabilized.
She raised her head and met Yu Qian's cold eyes.
"Is there something you want to say, sir?"
"Or perhaps, are you doubting something?"
Her face turned pale, and she twisted the handkerchief in her hands tightly.
Yao Zidian, who had been sitting next to the conversation and had listened to the whole thing, called for a halt.
"We've only come here to find out about Prefect Liu's matter; we can talk about other things later."
Yu Qian looked at Wei Wei's slightly trembling lips and finally stopped talking.
Wei Wei, however, did not intend to let the matter rest.
The more you hide it, the more interested others will be.
She didn't want to fall into his notice from now on, causing him to suspect her in every little way.
She forced a smile, but there was no joy in it, only deep weariness.
"Lord Yao, I have my own reasons for coming here this time."
After saying this, she suddenly knelt down: "I beg Lord Yao to help me find my husband and my mother-in-law."
"And my second uncle, please release him."
"He did nothing wrong, and he suffered an undeserved misfortune."
"You are the inspector, the eyes of the emperor, and you should not let my second uncle continue to suffer injustice!"
She said, "Please punish those brother and sister surnamed Jiang to clear the name of my Meng family!"
Yao Zidian looked shaken, but he couldn't bring himself to speak.
