In the small courtyard.
Qi Yuan's heart also turned cold.
Looking at the officer in front of him, who had become fierce and menacing, he tightened his grip even more.
Wei Cheng tried very hard, but couldn't pull her sleeve out of his hand.
She could only comfort him gently, saying, "Don't be afraid, my love, you haven't done anything wrong."
"It's just a meeting with Lord Yu. Just answer whatever he asks."
Qi Yuan's lips trembled.
Looking at it so openly, combined with its already swollen and purplish color, it was truly a horrible sight.
Wei Cheng sighed, but then pulled hard on his sleeve again.
It took a lot of effort to finally pull it out.
She sighed comfortably, "Go on, my dear, follow the officers."
She gently smoothed out the wrinkles on her sleeves, feeling a pang of tenderness; she didn't even have time to glance at him.
"My wife, I'm scared."
"Will you come with me? I don't want to go alone."
Qi Yuan kept grinding his back teeth as he watched Wei Cheng's nonchalant attitude.
But he was too insecure. Even though every time he spoke, he was in so much pain that tears would well up in his eyes, he still kept talking.
But seeing Wei Cheng's expression as if she wanted to distance herself from him, he was so angry that he almost lost his temper!
All the kindness they showed him was fake!
When the crucial moment arrives, all their true colors are revealed!
Just wait, just wait. As long as he returns home safely, all the harm he suffered will be returned to him.
No, we must repay them a thousandfold, a hundredfold!
The officer impatiently poked his kidney again with the hilt of his knife: "Hurry up, don't think you can get away by playing dumb, or I'll put you in iron chains."
Qi Yuan certainly didn't want to be treated that way.
Even though she was anxious, scared, and regretful, she still walked out of the yard step by step.
Wei Cheng turned to Wei Wei and asked, "Do you think Lord Yu can make him tell the truth?"
Wei Wei smiled and said, "In Ping'an Temple, besides those who are on duty, he is the only man."
“He’s usually a simpleton, so people aren’t wary of him. But when no suspect can be found, he becomes the prime suspect.”
"Lord Yu is not someone who can be easily fooled."
Wei Wei's words soon came true.
By the afternoon, Qi Yuan had not returned.
The guards who were watching over them had disappeared without anyone noticing.
Everyone understood what this meant.
But just in case, Wei Cheng still went to great lengths to find the official and inquire about Qi Yuan's matter.
The answer I received was: "If you want to ask, go to the government office."
So, since we didn't see anyone here, they were taken to the government office?
Once you're inside the government office, getting out is never easy.
When Wei Cheng reached a secluded spot, she burst into laughter, clutching her stomach, and as she laughed, tears began to flow again.
"This is all retribution."
She spoke while wiping away her tears, her face a mixture of hatred and love.
Seeing her like this, Wei Wei simply took a handkerchief and wiped the corners of her eyes silently.
The voice was gentle and soft as it said, "Evil people will be punished; this is an eternal truth."
Wei Cheng nodded with red eyes: "Yes, how could it not be?"
“Now that he’s been arrested, our family’s safety is much better.”
“I was wrong before. I always thought that as long as he became stupid, everything could be forgotten.”
"But I never thought that if you don't cut the weeds at the root, they will grow back in the spring."
"I will not let a single member of the Qi family go."
——
Now that the murderer had been caught, there was no need for them to stay at Ping'an Temple any longer. After packing up, they headed back.
As soon as Wei Wei led Xiao Yue'er to the main gate of the Meng residence, she noticed that the gatekeeper was not the usual servant.
Instead, it was another burly man in his forties.
He was sitting on the stool, legs crossed, dozing off, completely bored.
Hearing the sound, he opened his eyes and looked over impatiently.
After seeing who it was, he stood up excitedly.
Xiaoyue'er and Weiwei exchanged a glance.
This person has a strange way of looking at people; it always seems like he has a sleazy, roguish look in his eyes.
This doesn't look like a servant in a mansion at all; he's more like a street ruffian.
Xiaoyue suppressed her discomfort and forced a slight smile: "Where do you work? Why do you look so unfamiliar?"
The big man didn't answer; his eyes were fixed on Xiaoyue'er, causing her to involuntarily take a step back.
Anger flashed across his face: "Look again! I'll gouge your eyes out!"
The burly man wasn't angry. Instead, he chuckled a few times, glanced at Wei Wei, and then took a few steps back.
"Ah, is it the young mistress who's back?"
Wei Wei's face darkened. She looked at the burly man and asked, "Has the Second Master already gone home?"
The man replied with a grin, "Young Madam, you guessed right, I came back with the Master."
It's quite remarkable that Master Meng has made such scoundrels so quickly after being released from prison.
"When did you come out?" she asked again.
The man looked slightly smug: "It wasn't long ago, just yesterday afternoon."
"Prefect Liu got into trouble, and our master's name has been cleared, so of course he's out now."
