Hearing these words, Jiang couldn't bear it any longer. She quickly took another look, a flash of anger crossing her face before turning into a bitter smile: "Perhaps I'm mistaken."
Her eyes were red to the core, and she looked at Nuoer and asked, "Did you sleep well last night? Did you miss your mother?"
Noel nodded obediently: "I've thought about it."
These two short words almost brought Chiang Kai-shek to tears.
Her voice trembled slightly as she said, "There's just nothing I can do, nothing I can do either. My older brothers and sisters all need to be taken care of, and you're the smartest one."
"Follow your aunt obediently and listen to what she says."
"Your mother will come to see you again when she has time."
Noor didn't cry or fuss, and nodded sensibly, "I know, Mother."
Jiang could no longer say anything; she was afraid that if she said another word, she would take him away.
They had no choice but to hurriedly stuff the person back into Granny Chun's arms.
Then, looking slightly flustered, he went out the door.
Nuoer's big eyes looked at Wei Wei again.
Wei Wei, however, did not want to see Nuo'er again.
"Take him down."
Her voice was calm and even.
Granny Chun diligently taught Nuo'er manners and etiquette.
But children are forgetful; although they are obedient, they forget things again after a short time.
As punishment, Granny Chun didn't let him eat dinner.
In the middle of the night, he secretly entered Tingfengxuan.
The courtyard gate was locked, but taking advantage of his small size, he managed to squeeze through the gap between the two doors.
He then carefully approached Wei Wei's bedside.
"Auntie, I'm hungry."
His voice was filled with grievance, like that of a bullied puppy.
Wei Wei, who was startled awake, was somewhat dazed.
My first instinct was to call Granny Zhang to go to the kitchen to prepare some food and bring it over.
Meng Yanjun slept with her for a year, until he was five years old, when they moved to a side room.
But Wei Wei soon sensed something was wrong and then became fully awake.
His expression instantly turned cold.
"Noor, you know that if your aunt were any more timid, you would scare me to death."
Noel stood barefoot in front of her, looking completely lost.
He had some scratches on his face, probably from being scraped when he squeezed in.
Wei Wei turned her head away and called out, "Xiao Qiao'er."
Xiao Qiao'er rushed in and immediately saw Nuo'er standing on the ground. She couldn't help but exclaim, "What are you doing here?"
Wei Wei's brows furrowed deeply: "Ask Granny Chun how she takes care of the children? She doesn't even know how they've been out here?"
Granny Chun rushed in in a panic, without even putting on her outer garment. She looked surprised and didn't dare to say anything. She took the person away.
Wei Wei didn't sleep all night.
She kept thinking about when Nuo'er was carried back by Granny Chun, and how she vaguely called out "Mother" from her slightly open mouth.
Did she see it wrong?
Or is it just that Noel misses her mother?
Wei Wei was unable to sleep at night.
Just as dawn was breaking, I managed to doze off for a short while before Granny Chun rushed over again, shouting, "Young Madam, Nuo'er has a fever!"
She couldn't fall asleep anymore.
The backyard of the Meng residence was brightly lit.
When Ma and Jiang arrived, Wei Wei was sitting in the main hall of the Azure Pavilion, wearing an overcoat.
Her complexion was terrible, and her eyes were filled with rage.
Inside, Granny Chun and Xiao Yue'er were trying to cool him down.
Jiang was eager to rush in and take a look.
Wei Wei called out to her in a cold voice.
"Sister-in-law, don't worry, I want to ask you something first."
Jiang, however, had no intention of listening to her and instead questioned her, "I was perfectly fine yesterday, how did you suddenly develop a fever?"
"Nuo'er was clearly terrified when she saw Granny Chun; she must have done it on purpose!"
Wei Wei simply tossed the teacup in her hand onto the table.
With a loud "bang," Jiang finally fell silent.
"Have you said enough, sister-in-law?"
She still had a smile on her lips, but anyone could tell that she was angry.
Madam Ma immediately stepped forward to smooth things over: "Your sister-in-law is just anxious, young mistress, please don't take it to heart with a country bumpkin like her."
Jiang was clearly indignant at being called a country bumpkin.
But after meeting her mother-in-law's gaze, she finally shut her mouth tightly.
Mrs. Ma smiled and said, "The child is still young, so there's no need to make a fuss about a minor illness from time to time."
"Young Madam, we understand and will not blame Granny Chun."
Wei Wei lowered her head and curled the corners of her lips into a smile.
“Aunt, although you don’t blame Granny Chun, I can’t help but blame Nuo’er.”
These words caused the two women opposite to widen their eyes in surprise.
"Young Madam, what do you mean by this?"
Wei Wei said, "I don't know how you taught that child at home, making him so bold."
"It crossed many obstacles in the middle of the night and appeared silently at my bedside, scaring me so much that I was on edge all night."
"After being taken back, he refused to obey Granny Chun's discipline and ran to the pond in the backyard to threaten Granny Chun."
"But in the end, he lost his balance and fell into the water!"
"If it weren't for Granny Chun risking her life to save him, would you still be able to see him?"
Her gaze was heavy: "I can't teach this child."
"Take him away."
These words were like a bolt from the blue, catching people completely off guard.
Jiang cried out in disbelief, "Impossible! How could Nuo'er do such a thing?"
