Wei Wei became interested upon hearing this and asked, "Whose young master is he?"
Mother Wei shook her head: "He's not some young master, he's the eldest young master!"
"They said they came from Kyoto and stayed in the Osmanthus Alley next door."
The eldest son, who came to Kyoto for a visit, became friends with his twelve-year-old brother.
It seems very strange and bizarre from any perspective.
Wei Xin had not returned yet, so she could not ask him.
However, these are special times, and we must be extremely careful in everything we do.
One should always be more wary of those who are unknown to them.
"After Xin Ge'er comes back, tell him to go out less," Wei Wei said. "It's always good to be wary of people."
Both of Wei's parents agreed.
After bringing Aunt Leng over, Wei Wei was about to leave.
As the group walked to the front gate, they encountered Wei Xin, who was walking home with a big, excited smile on his face.
He saw his sister and quickly ran up to her, shouting, "Sister! Why are you leaving again so soon?"
Wei Wei didn't laugh; her eyes darkened. "Father is injured, yet you don't care at all, and you're still thinking about going out to play."
Wei Xin blushed slightly upon hearing this: "The doctor said Father was fine, so I went out... I promise I won't do it again next time."
Wei Wei's expression straightened slightly, and she asked, "How is your friend?"
Speaking of this friend, Wei Xin's face became even more excited: "Brother Wang just left!"
After saying that, he immediately turned his head and pointed to the carriage that had already gone far away: "He said I was too young and it was not safe for me to be alone, so he specially sent me back."
Wei Wei followed his finger and looked in that direction. The carriage was the most ordinary kind, obviously rented by a horse rental company.
The blue carriage curtain swayed gently, completely obscuring the figures inside.
But he wasn't sure if it was just his imagination, but he felt like a pair of eyes were fixed on him, with an ambiguous meaning.
This made her feel uneasy, wondering if the person had ulterior motives.
Where did you meet him?
Only after the carriage disappeared from sight did she turn to look at her younger brother with a sullen face.
Wei Xin had no idea what his sister was thinking. He said, "It's right at our doorstep!"
"Brother Wang is a very nice person! And he's good-looking too!"
"Sister, do you know? I've never seen anyone so beautiful before!"
Wei Wei frowned, ignoring the last sentence, and asked only, "You said he's a very good person, what makes him so good?"
Wei Xin immediately began to recount: "Just two days ago, right in front of my house, a little girl was almost hit by a carriage, and he saved her in time!"
Wei Wei pressed further, "Where was he then?"
Wei Xin was a little confused by the question, but he still answered honestly: "He was in the carriage at the time. When he saw the person, he immediately had the horse stopped."
"Not only did he dismount to comfort the little girl, but he also generously gave her a few taels of silver as a token of his sincere apology."
Seeing that her younger brother was completely focused on this friend, Wei Wei shook her head and corrected him: "You're not right to say that."
"It was his fault to begin with. Wasn't it only right that he accepted the money as a gesture of goodwill to appease others?"
Wei Xin stared blankly at her, finally realizing belatedly that her sister harbored resentment towards his friend.
She immediately became anxious: "Sister, don't you like him? He's a really nice person!"
"I'll bring him to see you next time, so you'll see for yourself."
Seeing his anxious expression, Wei Wei's heart sank.
The two had only known each other for a few days. How did that person manage to gain the complete trust of his younger brother?
So many things had happened in places she had never been able to see before?
No matter who that person is, she will absolutely not allow them to harm her family!
"Well, your friend is so loyal and devoted. It would be a real shame if I didn't meet him."
"Then let's do it tomorrow. I'll treat him to lunch at Chunfeng Tower tomorrow at noon."
Wei Xin clicked his tongue: "Isn't this taking it too seriously?"
Wei Wei smiled: "It's rare for my brother to have a true friend, and he's from the capital. If we just pick a small place, it would seem like we're being too casual."
Wei Xin could not refuse.
That's how it was settled.
Having made the appointment, Wei Xin immediately headed to her room: "I'll write a letter right now and have someone deliver it to Brother Wang's house!"
He left, and Wei Wei looked at Leng Pusheng, who was standing silently behind her, with a somber expression: "Brother Leng, do you know that person's background?"
Leng Pusheng, who seemed somewhat absent-minded, did not expect her to ask him. After a moment of hesitation, he shook his head.
Wei Wei said, "Then I'll trouble Brother Leng to investigate."
Seeing that Leng Pusheng remained silent, Aunt Leng reached out and pinched his arm: "The young mistress asked you a question, why aren't you answering? Have you forgotten what your mother told you?"
The usually serious and aloof man was given a stern lecture by his own mother.
This made the maid beside her smile silently, her eyes crinkling.
Leng Pusheng's ears turned red, and he immediately nodded in agreement: "I will investigate immediately."
However, he felt uneasy about Wei Wei's certainty that he knew a lot of things.
——
The Meng family was now in complete chaos.
Wei Wei hadn't been gone long when Granny Chun was summoned by Old Madam Meng.
With Wei Wei having her weakness exposed, Granny Chun naturally closed her eyes and started spouting nonsense.
"Mother Lin did come by. I had just seen the Second Madam off and was about to turn back to comfort the Young Madam when..."
