Chapter 5 Mysterious Man and Hyena

Wei Wei's heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was going to jump out of her chest.

Once she regained her balance, she looked at the man in front of her with surprise and disbelief, panting heavily.

He was very tall, with extremely handsome features.

Especially with that long robe loosely worn on his body, he suddenly exuded a sense of freedom and ease.

He looked like a dashing young master from a prestigious family.

Regardless of who this person was, at this moment, he was no less than a raging flood or a ferocious beast in her eyes!

How long has he been behind me? What does he do? Is he on Meng Zhixuan's side?

Looking at the quiet surroundings, Wei Wei felt a sense of unease.

If he's on Meng Zhixuan's side and discovers he's been spying on her, will he kill her to silence her?!

His hands clenched tightly inside his sleeves, and he forced a smile: "Thank you, young master."

The man didn't speak, but his eyes didn't leave, as if he had seen something that greatly interested him.

He even took out a folding fan from his sleeve, opened it, and gently fanned her.

"Is the girl hot?" he asked. "I see sweat on her forehead."

"I may offer you my folding fan to help you cool off."

Seeing Wei Wei pursing her lips and remaining silent, he smiled again, his handsome face shining in the sunlight.

"However, paper is precious, so Miss will have to pay for it."

Wei Wei suddenly looked up at the young man waiting for her answer. Had she guessed wrong? Was this person just someone who appeared by chance?

The strength in my body was regenerated.

Wei Wei gritted her teeth, took off the only silver hairpin inlaid with gold from her hair, and handed it to him: "I came out in a hurry today and didn't bring any silver with me."

"How about we use this hairpin as collateral?"

The young man raised an eyebrow, reached out his slender hand, took the item, and casually glanced at it a few times.

He tossed the folding fan directly into Wei Wei's arms, a satisfied smile playing on his lips: "It's barely enough, but don't lose this folding fan, Miss. I might want to exchange it for it later."

Having said that, he stuffed the hairpin into his sleeve, took a long stride, and left.

Wei Wei dared not delay any longer. She took a deep look at the man who was leaving in another direction and hurriedly returned to the back door of the Golden Pavilion.

Xiaoyue was still inside choosing jewelry, but the anxiety on her face was already very obvious.

He only breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Wei Wei.

He had the jewelry he had chosen carefully wrapped up before leaving the gold shop.

The coachman wasn't waiting by the carriage; only the horses stood there all alone.

Wei Wei sat down first, and after a while, she heard Xiao Yue'er angrily scold: "Where have you been? We've been here for ages and haven't seen you anywhere!"

The coachman's panicked voice rang out: "I...I just had a stomachache..."

Then, in a panic, he said to Wei Wei inside the carriage, "Please forgive me, young mistress!"

Xiao Yue'er snorted coldly: "If the young master finds out that you have been so disrespectful to the young mistress, I'd like to see if you'll be in big trouble!"

Upon hearing this, the coachman trembled with fear and begged for mercy.

Who doesn't know that Meng Zhixuan cherishes this person inside like a precious treasure?

Wei Wei sighed and said, "That's enough, don't scare him anymore. This is nothing serious, just don't tell anyone when we get back."

The coachman thanked her profusely, tears streaming down his face, while Xiaoyue climbed into the carriage with a cold expression, unable to suppress the smile on her lips.

This coachman was a gambling addict; he couldn't resist the urge to gamble as soon as he had any money on him.

Wei Wei deliberately had Xiao Yue'er give him money to gamble, just to find fault with him and make him afraid to mention the time when the two of them dismounted on the way.

Meng Zhixuan was worried but had no way of asking.

As for the hairpin Wei Wei gave to the young man, she didn't care at all.

She was afraid because she hadn't left that place yet.

Once she leaves, that hairpin is just an ordinary trinket; who knows whose it is? She's just a woman living in a secluded household; if she's careful, she won't run into him again.

Wei Wei's fingers silently caressed the folding fan hidden in her sleeve.

Even if he were to join forces with Meng Zhixuan and suspect her, she would have no choice but to take the folding fan and strike first.

The carriage continued forward.

In the small courtyard in the alley, the young man who had exchanged his folding fan for a hairpin was slowly pushing open the tightly closed door.

The hidden guards stirred for only a moment before falling silent once they saw who it was.

A fair-skinned, beardless middle-aged man stepped forward and bowed to him, saying, "You've arrived, please come in!"

He put on a good show, but the contempt in his eyes was not completely hidden.

A hearty laugh came from inside the house, the voice clear and bright: "Is it Seventh Brother? Zhou Quan, please invite him in quickly."

Zhou Quan let out a soft "Hey," and the disdain in his narrow eyes slowly disappeared at this moment.

He bent down, opened the door, and stood to the side with a smile, looking up at the person behind him.

The young man's smile deepened, seemingly oblivious to Zhou Quan's expression, and calmly addressed the inside, saying, "Ayu greets elder brother."

Before the words were even finished, the person had already stepped inside.

--

Meng Zhixuan returned to the Meng residence late at night.

After hearing that Wei Wei had returned and gone to bed, he took a shower and went straight into the bedroom.

Little Moon was on night watch.

The door opened softly, but it startled her from her light sleep. She opened her eyes and saw a figure pass behind the screen.

She knew that it was her young lady's husband, Meng Zhixuan, and it was perfectly normal for the newlyweds to be together.

Little Moon frowned.

Her heart inexplicably jumped as she thought of her young mistress's unusual behavior these past two days and her subtle hostility towards her son-in-law.

Without hesitation, he immediately got up from the bed and hurriedly followed them inside.

As I walked past the screen, I saw Meng Zhixuan standing silently at the head of the bed.

His hair was half-disheveled, and he entered silently, like a ghost drifting in from the night.

The moonlight reflected from the window shone on his face, and his usual gentleness was gone, replaced by a hint of ferocity.

He watched the sleeping Wei Wei silently, like a hyena ready to devour its prey!

A chill rose from the soles of my feet, and the hairs on my back stood on end.

Xiaoyue was startled by the thought that suddenly came to mind.

With a trembling voice, he called out, "Young Master..."

Meng Zhixuan turned around when he heard the voice, a smile playing on his lips, his expression softening once more.

"Little Yue'er, don't make a sound, the young mistress is asleep."

Xiao Yue'er quietly swallowed and nodded: "The young mistress was listless after taking the medicine and went to bed early."

Meng Zhixuan's eyes gleamed eerily in the darkness as he asked, "Why didn't you rest at your parents' house?"

Xiao Yue'er said, "The young mistress said she is not feeling well and does not want her parents to worry..."

Meng Zhixuan smiled: "In that case, it must be difficult for you, Madam."

Xiao Yue'er forced a smile: "How could that be? The young mistress is very pleased."

Meng Zhixuan gave her a half-smile: "Your maid knows how to talk. Does your face still hurt?"
