Wei Wei gave a wry smile: "Thank you for your concern, Miss Jiang, but I can still hold on."
Jiang Changhe looked surprised: "I really didn't expect you to be so strong."
She asked, "I've heard that a lot of bad things have happened to the Meng family recently. Is that true?"
Wei Wei nodded calmly: "Miss Jiang, you are very kind. These days have indeed been quite difficult."
Jiang Changhe laughed: "I just think that Madam Meng is really strong. If it were someone else, they wouldn't have been able to withstand it."
She tilted her head, as if remembering something, and widened her eyes dramatically: "Oh, I heard you were a patient—are you cured?"
Wei Wei decided not to investigate the implications for the time being.
She simply sighed and replied earnestly, "Miss Jiang, as the young mistress of the Meng family, even if I only have one breath left, I must crawl out of bed and kneel here to send off our elders on their final journey."
"This is filial piety."
Seeing that Wei Wei was pushing back his words step by step, Jiang Changhe's expression gradually turned ugly.
She wasn't a very good-tempered person to begin with, and even if she tried her best to pretend, she couldn't keep up the act for long.
These days, she has been treated as a guest of honor by everyone in Loucheng, and everyone greets her with a smile.
She disliked the person in front of her very much.
If it weren't for her third brother telling her to be more patient, she would have already taken action against her.
Now that there were only a few scattered people coming to pay their respects, she couldn't be bothered to keep up the act any longer.
She slowly squatted down to face Wei Wei, her face carrying a faint chill: "Young Madam Meng, you will have no husband's family to rely on from now on. What will you do?"
Wei Wei replied politely, "Miss Jiang, rest assured, my husband is still alive and well in this world, and he will definitely protect me."
Jiang Changhe's ever-present, almost imperceptible smile finally vanished.
When Meng Zhixuan was mentioned, she could no longer pretend!
Wei Wei seemed completely oblivious to her gloomy expression; her smile remained unchanged as she stood up from the ground.
"Miss Jiang, aren't you tired of squatting like this? Would you like to sit in my yard for a while?"
This time, it was her looking down at Jiang Changhe from her superior position.
Their eyes met in mid-air, one smiling, the other shocked and angry, but neither of them looked away first.
When Aunt Nie, who was standing beside Jiang Changhe, saw her mistress being looked down upon, her expression changed and she shouted loudly, "How dare you! How can you look down on my young lady without any sense of hierarchy?!"
Having said that, he immediately stepped forward and reached out to push Wei Wei.
Unexpectedly, Wei Wei's eyes flashed and she took a step back, just in time to avoid the hand that was about to do something naughty: "I'm so sorry, Miss Jiang, please get up quickly."
After he finished speaking, Xiao Yue'er immediately stepped forward to help him up, but unexpectedly, she was slapped across the face by Jiang Changhe, whose face was ashen.
A smile curved her lips, her gaze icy cold.
She slowly stood up from the ground, glaring at the astonished Wei Wei through gritted teeth: "Does such a lowly person's hand even deserve to touch me?"
"Young Madam Meng, just because I give you a little face, you think you can take advantage of me?"
"What does Miss Jiang mean?"
Wei Wei's face also darkened, and she pulled the terrified Xiao Yue'er behind her.
Jiang Changhe shook his slightly numb hand and smiled smugly: "Can't understand what I'm saying? How pathetic."
Wei Wei's face was already pale, but now it was even more frighteningly white: "Miss Jiang, are you trying to kick our Meng family while it's declining?"
Jiang Changhe raised his eyebrows defiantly: "So what if it is?"
Jiang Changhe's arrogant demeanor was quite ridiculous, so Wei Wei actually laughed: "You know what? Your inconsistent behavior reminds me of a local saying."
"Is Miss Jiang interested in knowing?"
Jiang Changhe snorted: "Young Madam Meng, I really want to hear your proverbs."
Wei Wei nodded, her eyes darkening: "The surface of horse manure is shiny, but inside it's a bag of chaff."
Perhaps fearing she wouldn't understand, he then thoughtfully explained again: "This proverb is similar to the saying 'all that is gold and jade on the outside, but rotten cotton inside.'"
Her smile didn't reach her eyes: "You're like a rotten seed; the flowers you grow from have a scent that's incredibly wicked and disgusting."
The noble Jiang Changhe had never heard anyone curse like that before.
The insults they used were exceptionally harsh.
She glared at him, furious and enraged, and screamed, "Wei Wei! You're asking for it!"
After saying that, he raised his hand without any regard for his image and was about to slap Wei Wei in the face again!
Wei Wei had been waiting for this opportunity!
Anyone who dares to hurt her, no matter who they are, she will make them regret it!
What about enduring humiliation and bearing heavy burdens? What about taking a step back and seeing a broader horizon? Those are nothing but self-comfort when people are helpless and desperate. Now, she doesn't need them at all!
Jiang Changhe lunged forward, but Wei Wei reached out to stop him without hesitation.
Their hands touched and then became entangled.
It's unclear who lost their footing, but they dragged another person down to the ground in a sorry state.
With a loud "bang," Wei Wei's arm struck the corner of the coffin, tearing her sleeve and leaving a cut the length of her finger.
Fresh blood quickly flowed out.
She let out a painful groan, which completely drowned out the faint noise coming from Jiang Changhe.
The scattered people who came to worship had been watching this place from a distance, and had seen and heard about what had happened.
They've already suffered enough, and you're still bullying them like this. This woman looks so beautiful, yet her heart is so vicious!
