Chapter 70 A Scoundrel Comes to the Door

His voice was shrill, like stabs being thrust into one's ears.

"My dear sister, how could you suddenly die like this?"

"You didn't even have time to enjoy life before you left us so suddenly. I really feel sorry for you, brother!"

"Open your eyes and tell me, were you forced by that heartless person? Did you suffer some injustice?"

"Don't be afraid, your brother is here now and will definitely get justice for you!"

He wailed with great fervor, his voice drowning out everyone else's.

Wei Wei cleaned her ears and waited until they adjusted before entering the lobby.

The servant, who had been forced to listen to the incessant nagging, approached her somewhat helplessly and whispered, "They came so suddenly, claiming to be a relative of the old lady. I didn't dare to stop them..."

"Young Madam, what do you think we should do?"

Wei Wei didn't look at it much, but just yawned out of boredom and kindly reminded the old man who was lying on a coffin and wailing, "You're in the wrong coffin."

“That one belongs to your eldest nephew, the one next to it belongs to my old lady.”

Her voice was clear and her expression serious: "Although you claim to be my father-in-law's uncle, this noise will keep him from having any peace, and there's no guarantee he won't crawl out of his room at night to settle scores with you."

The man shuddered and slid off the coffin lid.

His face turned red and white; he had made a complete fool of himself.

His face flushed red, he got up from the ground and angrily cursed, "You disrespectful wife, did you drive my sister to her death?"

He slapped his thigh, heartbroken: "What a cruel heart! How could I have married someone like you!"

The woman immediately stood behind her husband, her eyebrows raised, and shouted, "People like this should be kicked out of the Meng family immediately!"

"Let us uphold the Meng family's honor!"

Oh, so it turns out that she saw that she was the only one left in the Meng residence, so she thought of coming over to take over.

They weren't even afraid of stuffing themselves to death.

Wei Wei was not angry. She just looked at them calmly and said, "Show me the proof that you are my old lady's brother, and I can let you send her off on her final journey."

"Otherwise, I'll have to report this to the authorities and let you know what the consequences are for spitting filth!"

The two looked at each other, and then they actually fell to the ground and started throwing a tantrum.

"Oh my God, God, come and see! How can there be such a cruel person in the world!"

"All I wanted was to see my sister... and this is how you treat me!"

"I might as well just die like this, and have my sister keep me company down there!"

After saying that, he was about to bang his head against the coffin.

There was a moment of chaos in the hall. Seeing that Wei Wei was standing still without making any move, the servants also stopped what they were doing.

These two old geezers are not going to die, of course; they just want to use their underhanded methods to threaten me.

Unfortunately, Wei Wei was completely unmoved.

She looked at them with a mocking gaze and asked, "Are you done making a scene? If you're done, it'll be my turn."

Wei Wei raised her voice a little: "Tie up these two swindlers and send them to the authorities."

She rubbed her temples: "By the way, when will the trial begin for the case I reported yesterday?"

Granny Chun volunteered to make the arrangements. She hadn't been able to build up goodwill with him yesterday because she was busy at Yanshou Hall, so she couldn't afford to miss this opportunity.

The young mistress is now the undisputed mistress of the manor, and her good days are about to begin!

"Tie her down and tie her up with the thickest rope. Let's see who dares to bully my young mistress now!"

She stood with her hands on her hips and shouted loudly. The two uninvited guests, cursing and swearing, were tied up and led out. Wei Wei knelt down again beside the coffin to burn paper money.

However, instead of waiting for Granny Chun to return, she was greeted by government officials.

One of the people who appeared here with Third Brother yesterday.

He looked at the woman kneeling on the ground keeping vigil with a complicated expression.

"Madam Meng, please come with me to the yamen."

Wei Wei turned her head and asked again uncertainly, "You want me to go to the yamen?"

The official said, "That's right, the two men you sent to the yamen accused you of plotting to murder Old Madam Meng!"

"You need to come with us."

Wei Wei stood up from the ground, her tone sarcastic: "I handed the two people over to the authorities, but they found nothing and didn't give me any explanation. Now they say I murdered the old lady, and you're coming to arrest me right away."

"What? Am I, a lonely person, easier to bully?"

The officer blushed at her words but didn't know how to respond. After a long pause, he finally managed to say, "It's no use talking to me. You have to confront them."

Wei Wei looked at him again to confirm: "Is the official's message correct?"

"Does the prefect really want me to go to the yamen to be investigated right now?"

The officer seemed hesitant to look at him, and his tone softened: "Not bad."

Wei Wei nodded: "In that case, let's go."

She wanted to make things bigger.

Without needing the officials to urge him any further, he actually walked out the door with two maids.

The servants of the Meng family standing nearby were terrified as they watched what was about to happen.

Their only mistress has been taken to the yamen (government office), so who will guard the Meng family's mourning hall? What will they do if she doesn't come back either?

They were merely slaves; the only place the Meng family could go after their downfall was to be sold off again!

The thought made them tremble. They knelt down and cried out, "Your Honor, you've been wronged! How could our young mistress possibly murder the old lady?"

One was clearly killed outside the city, and the other was driven to death by anxiety!

Ultimately, it's all because these officials failed to strengthen patrols outside the city, yet now they're turning around and blaming others!

That's outrageous! Absolutely outrageous!

Wei Wei sighed and looked at them, saying, "What are you afraid of? A just and upright official will not wrong an innocent person, nor will he let a guilty person go free. Since we're going to interrogate him, let's interrogate him from beginning to end."

"You do what you're supposed to do, and leave the rest to me."

What should be done and what shouldn't be done?

They stared at each other, until someone slapped their thigh and shouted, "The young mistress said to investigate from beginning to end, then our report to the authorities yesterday will definitely be brought up as well."

"The officials are bullying us because of their status, and all the neighbors are watching!"

"Let's go and beg them, let everyone speak up for us!"

Not too stupid.

Wei Wei smiled and stepped out the door first.
