Chapter 8 The Person I Want to See

The moment Xiaoyue let go, Qin Shi couldn't wait to retreat. The fierceness on his face reappeared, but it slowly subsided when he met Wei Wei's eyes.

The two people beside him stepped forward to examine his injuries, making a fuss and insisting that they make Wei Wei pay.

Qin Shi, however, became conflicted because of the oath.

The most promising person in their family is their father. Although he is only a Xiucai (a scholar who passed the county-level imperial examination), he has a high chance of passing the provincial-level imperial examination next year.

Having endured the hardships of reaching my forties, I cannot afford any more mishaps.

If his family finds out that he made a vow but failed to keep it, his mother, who burns incense and prays to Buddha every day, will skin him alive!

After some hesitation, I finally decided to let them go for now.

He glared at Wei Wei and said, "I swear I won't hurt you, but I didn't promise not to hurt that bastard Meng Zhixuan. You just wait and see!"

After saying that, he left in a fit of rage with his men.

Seeing that the person had really left, Xiaoyue breathed a sigh of relief.

Ignoring Qin Shi's words, Wei Wei quickly got off the carriage and walked towards the old lady.

He struggled several times but couldn't get up until Wei Wei steadily supported him.

The old woman looked at Wei Wei with tears in her eyes, her lips twitching as she spoke, "Kind girl, it's you! You saved me again!"

On her dark face, the old woman's expression shifted from bewilderment to tears welling up in her eyes.

Wei Wei was also feeling uneasy. She had met and helped this old man a couple of years ago.

From then on, an old man with a hunched back would always appear outside the Wei residence, holding three or five copper coins in his hand, to repay her kindness.

Wei Wei would accept it with a smile and have her servants bring her the specially reserved food and other things.

She refused to accept the money, standing there awkwardly looking at her, her voice hoarse yet stubborn: "Miss, I am not a beggar. It is only right to pay back debts, you don't need to treat me like this."

She was speechless, but she still sent someone to secretly buy back the shoe soles that the old woman sold every day.

This went on for a year. Finally, she placed the last copper coin she owed into Wei Wei's hand, and for the first time, a relieved smile appeared on her sorrowful face: "My son is coming back."

I never saw her again after that.

The next time I heard news of her, it was after she had been bullied and committed suicide. Her son avenged her by killing the enemy and fifty-three of his relatives!

The massacre of an entire family shocked the entire Cang Kingdom. The emperor issued an order to find the murderer, but in the end, it brought to light a major threat to the court—the Su Shou Hall.

This assassin sect, whose influence extends throughout the country, is even more powerful than the imperial guards!

They deliberately opposed the secret guards, and even killed several high-ranking officials, exposing the atrocities they had committed in their lifetimes.

Wei Wei didn't know anything more specific; all she knew was that if it were true, she needed that thread.

A smile played on her lips, a smile that carried a faint hint of apology towards the old woman.

After picking up the scattered shoe soles and putting them in the basket, Wei Wei asked, "Auntie, you said your son came back last time. How is he doing now?"

The old woman nodded, a smile on her face: "Good, your son is very filial!"

At this point, his face turned ashen: "It's all because of my old bones! I'm a burden!"

Wei Wei's expression shifted slightly.

This reveals that the old woman has already resolved to die.

She recalled the three carefree young men and their families, as if the stench of blood had assaulted her nostrils.

“Auntie, you’re wrong,” Wei Wei said softly, trying to comfort her. “You think your son is a burden, but have you ever thought that your son only has one relative left?”

"If you don't want him, who will he talk to about the coldness and indifference of human relationships in the future?"

The old woman moved her lips but remained silent, her hands, which were tightly gripping the hem of her clothes, trembled slightly.

All mothers in the world love their children, and the old woman had been temporarily persuaded by Wei Wei's words.

A middle-aged man emerged from around the corner.

He wasn't particularly tall or imposing, but his steps were very steady.

"Mother, I've come to take you home." He spoke cautiously.

When he looked at Wei Wei, there was gratitude in his eyes.

The old woman's eyes lit up, and she responded with a sound of agreement, placing her hand in her son's.

The suicidal thoughts he had just had completely vanished, and he became full of life again.

"This is the benefactor I was talking about!" The old woman pointed excitedly at Wei Wei and said, "My mother is too old to repay her kindness. In the future, you must repay her kindness on my behalf."

The man was very obedient, bowing respectfully and responding in a polite tone.

Wei Wei smiled; she couldn't refuse those words, nor would she feign reluctance.

Instead, he asked, "Where does the old lady live? May I visit her next time?"

Despite her ulterior motives, she was also worried that Aunt Leng might try to kill herself again.

Aunt Leng nodded with a smile: "Miss, you don't mind. I'll kill a chicken for you to eat. My son will be able to earn money to support the family when he comes back."

Her tone was proud, which made the man sound a little awkward.

Looking at the slightly shy middle-aged man, Wei Wei's expression was complicated. She couldn't imagine that this person would one day transform into a murderous monster.

However, with her involvement now, that tragedy should change.

After learning the location of the old woman's house, both parties bid farewell and left.

Wei Wei was already very satisfied.

She completed her first step smoothly.

When Meng Zhixuan and his men rushed over, only an empty carriage remained.

His face turned pale and then red. He slapped the coachman across the face, knocking him to the ground.

The coachman didn't dare utter a sound; he lay on the ground, his whole body trembling.

The butler, who had come along, kicked the coachman, furious: "Is this how you take care of the young mistress? If anything happens to her, you and your family won't live!"

After finishing his tirade, he cautiously asked, "Young Master, what should we do?"

What can we do? What can we do? We can only go to their door to find them!

In this way, probably everyone in Loucheng will know that Meng Zhixuan's wife has been kidnapped and taken home, and he has lost all face!

What will he do then? Will he still treat the person who cheated on him like a godmother? That's impossible! Not divorcing her is already being merciful to her!

Thinking of this, Meng Zhixuan's eyes darkened even more. No matter what, don't blame him for being ruthless.

I originally intended to let her enjoy herself for a while, but who told me to lose face like this?

If anyone is to blame, it's Wei Wei's bad luck!

"Gather everyone, grab sticks, and head to the Qin residence! If they don't release the young mistress, smash their gates!"

"I'm going to the prefect right now to accuse that Qin fellow of failing to properly educate his son!"

After saying this, he immediately turned and left.

Unexpectedly, a soft body rushed into his arms, causing him to stumble back two steps.
