Wei Wei is about to die.
She and her husband lived a perfect life together, their only regret being that she didn't bear him any children.
Well, it was her fate to die before she turned forty. Fortunately, most of her short thirty-nine years were sweet.
Granny Zhang brought in a bowl of medicine. It had a familiar bitter taste, but the fishy smell was much stronger than before.
This was specially made to treat her congenital illness. Although it tasted terrible and didn't seem to help, she continued to drink it day after day to put everyone's minds at ease.
This time, however, she frowned and didn't drink the medicine, a hint of darkness appearing in her eyes. Then, she turned to Zhang Mama and started to act coquettishly.
"Where is the master? I want him to feed me."
She's almost forty years old. No matter how beautiful she used to be, she's now a thin, sallow-faced woman on the verge of death.
Zhang Mama, however, was the complete opposite of her.
His hair was gray, but he was in good spirits.
At this moment, a look of disdain flashed in her eyes, and she said with a straight face, "How old are you? Aren't you afraid that the younger generation will laugh at you!"
Granny Zhang was a servant of the late old lady. When Wei Wei was still the young mistress and her mother-in-law was still the first mistress, the old lady pitied her weak health and not only gave her a son, but also sent her most capable servant to her side.
This care lasted for twenty-two years.
Wei Wei's eyes reddened, a rare occurrence, but her tone became stubborn: "If the nanny doesn't call the master, I won't drink the medicine! I haven't gotten better after all these years, so drinking it won't do any good!"
Although he was angry, he was ultimately lacking in vital energy.
She took a breath, her voice gradually becoming low: "As you know, my days are numbered... I'm afraid I won't be able to see Jun'er get married."
Her adopted son, Meng Yanjun, is getting married in a month.
It seems she knew that her body was already beyond saving.
Zhang Mama's gaze swept over her sickly, pale, and thin face before she finally sighed softly, "Madam, don't think too much. I'll go and call the master over right now."
A short while later, Meng Zhixuan walked in from outside.
Although he is already in his early forties, he is tall and handsome, and time has not left any mark on his face.
Wei Wei's eyes lit up, and her thin, almost fleshy hand eagerly reached out to him, only to be quickly grasped in his palm.
"Why are you throwing a tantrum?"
Meng Zhixuan's voice contained a hint of helplessness, but even more so, doting affection.
"I've been quite busy these past few days and have neglected you. If you find the medicine too bitter, I can feed it to you from now on, okay?"
Wei Wei's gaze was fixed on him, and she nodded with a smile.
The man before her was someone she had loved for many years. If she died, leaving him alone in the world would be far too lonely.
Meng Zhixuan took the medicine bowl from Zhang Mama, tested the temperature, and said with a smile, "Take your medicine first. I'm waiting for you to get better so we can ride horses together."
When she was young, she was lively and always liked to secretly ride her horse around.
Her mother was so frightened that she clutched her chest and gasped for breath. After returning home, she would lock her in her room for three days without letting her leave.
Wei Wei thought of the past and couldn't help but feel sad.
Not long after she got married, her father and mother were attacked by bandits outside, and by the time they were found, it was too late to save them.
Meng Zhixuan handed her the medicine one spoonful at a time, and she swallowed it quietly.
After finishing the bowl of medicine, his breathing became even weaker.
Meng Zhixuan's eyes flickered as well. He said gently, "If you're not feeling well, rest for now. I'll call you when it's time to eat."
He helped her lie down on the bed and carefully covered her with the blanket before getting up.
The person on the bed was silent, as if they were about to fall asleep.
After Meng Zhixuan took two steps outside, he heard Wei Wei calling his name again: "Zhixuan".
He stopped and listened to her say, "Didn't you ask me where that jade pendant was last time?"
After she said that, the bed made a noise, probably because she turned over.
Meng Zhixuan's body trembled, and he paused for a moment before turning around.
A light veil cast a shadow, and from his angle, he couldn't see her expression as she spoke.
However, you can hear that the voice is still flat and weak.
Meng Zhixuan felt relieved, but asked with a puzzled look, "Why did you suddenly bring this up?"
Wei Wei coughed weakly and said helplessly, "I don't have much time left. My parents are both dead, and my younger brother has disappeared on his way to study abroad."
"I can only feel at ease if this immense wealth is in your hands."
"If my younger brother survives and comes looking for me in the future, you must take good care of him for me."
Wei Wei's voice became hoarse and seductive: "Come forward, and I'll tell you where the jade pendant is."
A fierce glint of greed suddenly flashed in Meng Zhixuan's eyes, but he quickly suppressed it.
He has waited so many years, and today his dream is finally coming true!
He took a few deep breaths before the smug smile on his face turned into a faint one.
"Let's talk about it when you're fully recovered."
I had to go against my conscience and finally managed to say what was on my mind.
He then held his breath and watched to see how the terminally ill old woman would respond.
"No, this thing is a disease to me, Zhixuan, you have to guard it for me."
As expected! As expected, she's still this foolish!
Meng Zhixuan could no longer control his smile, and his muscles began to twitch.
That's great! That's great!
