Chapter 6: Unable to resist transforming into a stubborn fish

Ambulances and police cars arrived together with sirens blaring and surrounded the Taohuawu residential area. The old man at the entrance was surrounded by police officers and nurses.

"Excuse me, where is Zhou Ping's house? We've received a case of child abuse..."

"Excuse me, where is Zhou Ping's home? We received a call saying the patient is a child..."

The police officer and the nurse exchanged a glance. It seemed this was indeed true, and they needed to rescue the patient/child as soon as possible.

Upon hearing these two sentences, the old man felt as if the sky was about to fall. He looked at the only lit apartment in the building and exclaimed, "Damn it, his beastly parents must be back again. It's over there. I'll lead the way!"

"My God, Zhou Ping is such a good kid, how could he have suffered like this..."

The old man led his men to apartment 403 on the fourth floor. Upon seeing Zhou Ping carrying Shang Yan, the old man rushed over, "Xiao Ping, is this the classmate who came to see you this afternoon? What happened to him?"

Looking again at the man lying motionless on the ground and the heavily made-up woman, the old man spat angrily, "They're not human! How could they do that to a child!"

"Grandpa Bai, save him..." Zhou Ping held the unconscious Shang Yan helplessly, his eyes filled with fear. For the first time, he raised his head and begged for help from the people around him.

"He...he won't wake up."

The nurse and the police exchanged a glance and then carried Shang Yan, who was in Zhou Ping's arms, downstairs. The child was the priority. As for the two beastly parents lying on the ground, they were naturally carried into the police car to be interrogated at the police station.

"Hey, officers..." the old man shouted as he saw Zhou Ping being led into the car, "Zhou Ping is a good boy, you must help him!"

The police car and the ambulance were driven away together.

The Shang family, who were waiting at home for Shang Yan to come home from school, went to the school that evening to find the teacher and learned that Shang Yan had left after school.

The family searched until midnight and finally received a phone call: "Hello, is this Shangyan's relative?"

"Yes, I am his sister. Where is he now?" Shang Qingqian breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing news of her brother.

"He is currently at the Second Hospital of Xijin City. He was brought here by ambulance last night. Shang Yan's condition is not very optimistic. He is experiencing cognitive confusion, which may indicate some mental issues. In any case, please come quickly."

"What..." Shang Qingqian was stunned. Her younger brother was fine when he left home, so how come he was taken to the hospital by ambulance at night?

Upon hearing the news, Shang's parents were also anxious. Shang Chen patted Shen Yu's hand, "Let's go quickly, don't cry, maybe things aren't that serious?"

"Okay, okay," Shen Yu said, wiping away tears from the corners of her eyes after searching for her son for most of the night.

The family quickly got into the car and drove to the hospital.

When Shang Yan woke up, he saw two pumpkins and a winter melon sitting next to him.

The lighter-colored pumpkin, seeing that he was awake, actually shed tears. "Yan Yan, you really worried your mother to death..."

"Mom?" Shang Yan tentatively called out.

His mother turned into a pumpkin, so what kind of pumpkin is he?

Shang Yan was shocked and incredulous. He quickly reached out to check himself.

"You little fool, I told you not to overuse your abilities, and now look what's happened, your cognition is all muddled..." 091's cold, electronic voice rang in my ears.

"You idiot, you went out to play with your classmates for so long and didn't come home. You went to his house to play... and you didn't even know how to protect yourself!" A flick came from the head, and the little winter melon sitting next to the two pumpkins gave him a good scolding.

Shang Yan looked left at the small winter melon, then right at the light-colored pumpkin, and finally tentatively called out to the dark-colored pumpkin, "Dad?"

"..." Dark Pumpkin's eyes reddened, and she reached out to roughly rub Shang Yan's head. "From now on, come home when it gets dark, understand?"

"I understand. I won't make this mistake again. I'm sorry," Shang Yan said, bowing his head and pitifully admitting his mistake.

He has family in this world, and he can't do such things again.

Seeing that Shang Yan answered fluently, the group exchanged glances and walked outside.

The light-colored pumpkin turned back to Shang Yan and said gently, "You've been unconscious for five days. Mom is going to buy you some food."

"Okay," Shang Yan nodded obediently.

In the corridor outside the ward, Shang Qingqian said, "My brother still recognizes us, and he doesn't seem to have any cognitive impairment..."

“Wait a little longer. The doctor from yesterday said that Xiaoyan woke up once before and asked them, ‘How can the big tree talk?’” He frowned and sighed.

"By the way, Xiaoyan's classmate..." Shang Qingqian paused for a moment, "I inquired about him yesterday."

“His parents are in a vegetative state, and he was taken away by his third uncle.”

"Hmph, that kind of beast doesn't deserve to be a parent, he even hurt Xiaoyan!" Shang Chen said in a low voice, "It's good that he was taken away, now he's spared from being tortured."

"It seems that Xiaoyan and he have a good relationship. I heard from the police that the boy kept asking Xiaoyan how she was before he was taken away."

"The child's third uncle left a business card, saying he'd keep in touch." Shang Qingqian pulled a small card from her pocket. Third Uncle's Local Cuisine Restaurant, contact number: 18xxxxxx

“He lives in the western part of the city. If Xiaoyan wants to see him, I’ll take her there.” It seems the two kids have a good relationship. Shang Chen added, “Anyway, they’re classmates, so they can always meet up.”

Things did not go smoothly.

Because Shang Yan's cognitive confusion has become more severe.

After he ate breakfast, he couldn't walk anymore. When he saw a pole on the road, he would say, "Wow, that's a big cucumber, it's huge!"

He went straight up and started gnawing, his teeth grinding loudly.

"[Be normal, host! If you keep going like this, you'll be sent to a mental hospital!]" 019 looked at Shang Yan, who was walking with his arms and legs moving in unison, and didn't know what to say.

After another week in the hospital, the door to my room was opened.

Zhou Ping, who had begged his third uncle to take him to see Shang Yan, saw his former classmate staring blankly out the window as the first thing he saw when he opened the door.

Seeing his good brother's sorrowful gaze, Zhou Ping stepped forward.

He hesitated for a moment, then reached out and tugged at Shang Yan's hospital gown sleeve.

His strength was too light; Shang Yan didn't feel it.

Zhou Ping tugged again, "What are you looking at?"

"The fish in this sea...!" Shang Yan pointed to the street outside the window, somewhat excited. He became even more excited when he saw Zhou Ping next to him, and pulled him to look out the window. "Look, aren't there many fish in that sea over there?"

He danced with excitement.

Zhou Ping looked at the street outside and remained silent for a long time. "Hmm, there are a lot of fish."

"Did you see them? What happened?" he asked, carefully tugging at Shang Yan's sleeve.

That day, Shang Yan saved him, and he also saw that Shang Yan's eyes had turned green...

That was the day his parents, who used to beat him, stopped hitting him, and he was taken to a new home by his third uncle.

From that day on, Shang Yan became what the adults called...a mentally ill person.

"Those fish swim so well!" Shang Yan even clapped his hands. "I want to become a stubborn fish too! I want to be one!"
