On the 15th day, Su Rui'an finally came to find Tang Baozhu. Seeing her running and covered in sweat, he was initially a little angry, but now he was only heartbroken.
She took out a handkerchief and wiped his sweat. "Why did you run so fast? I left you a note. Look at you, all sweaty. Hurry up and wipe it off."
Su Rui'an was overjoyed to see Tang Baozhu. The two had been separated for almost four months, a length of time they had never been apart before, and he missed her terribly.
He was extremely busy at the research institute during this period, and when he finally got home and saw the note, he couldn't wait to come and find her.
"You've been waiting for a long time, haven't you? I've been so busy lately, I'm really sorry."
Tang Baozhu shook her head. What was there to be embarrassed about? It wasn't like they were deliberately keeping her hanging on. It was understandable that they were busy with work.
"I didn't have to wait too long. It was my first time in Beijing, so while I had some free time, I visited all the famous tourist attractions in the city and ate all sorts of delicious food. In any case, it was a worthwhile trip."
At least she felt that the past two weeks had been very fulfilling, with no other things to distract her, and she had a great time traveling.
Su Rui'an glanced at Baozhu's expression and, after confirming that she was telling the truth and wasn't unhappy, finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"That's good. I was really worried you were angry. After all, so much time has passed, I was really worried you would go back."
That wasn't a lie. He was genuinely worried that if Baozhu got angry and left Beijing, he would regret it terribly.
Tang Baozhu rolled her eyes at him. "Do you think I'm that kind of person?"
Seeing that Baozhu looked angry, Su Rui'an closed the back door and pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly.
Tang Baozhu also missed him a little, so she didn't refuse his hug and hugged him back, which eased her longing a bit.
After hugging for a while, I felt that Brother Su's breathing was a little heavy and his body was changing. The little wooden stick was pressing against me, so I quickly pushed him away.
That's enough, any more hugging and something bad might happen.
Su Rui'an knew he couldn't keep hugging her, so after letting go of Baozhu, he took two steps back to calm himself down.
“Baozhu, let’s get married soon. I’ve been holding back for so many years, and I’m worried that if we keep holding back, one day when we need it, it will suddenly become useless.”
Tang Baozhu thought that as expected of a man in his thirties, he wasn't shy at all, only slightly better than her, an experienced driver.
"Here I am, don't tell me you didn't prepare anything."
Tang Baozhu coughed lightly, feeling a little embarrassed, even if she wasn't really embarrassed, she had to pretend.
Judging from Baozhu's expression, Su Rui'an knew that she hadn't rejected him. But then again, if she had wanted to reject him, she wouldn't have come to Beijing to find him.
"Don't worry, everything is ready and waiting for you."
There's something I need to tell you. After I came back, I immediately separated from my father's household. You'll be living alone from now on, and it might be quite lonely. I hope you won't mind.
Tang Baozhu nodded repeatedly. "Isn't it good to be home alone? This is the best thing ever."
"I won't mind. You know I prefer to be alone. If there are a lot of people, I might feel uncomfortable."
Su Rui'an immediately smiled happily, "Then let's check out now and go home. Everything at home is ready. We just need to set a date, and we can get our marriage certificate. I've also prepared 500 yuan separately as a dowry for your family. It's too far to go to your home, and I'm currently very busy and can't find the time. I hope you and your parents won't mind."
When Su Rui'an said this, he was very happy at first, but then he became very uneasy. He was worried that Baozhu would think that he did not value her and would be angry with him.
So I felt quite uneasy when I looked at her.
"I won't mind. Besides, isn't 500 yuan too much? I don't think any family would spend that much money to get married, right?"
“Not much. Baozhu is so good. Even when I was still being sent to the countryside, she didn’t mind my status and stayed with me. You deserve so much. If I wasn’t worried that your family would think it was too much, I would have liked to give you more.”
In Su Rui'an's mind, Tang Baozhu deserved more money; in fact, she was priceless and invaluable.
But that money was for his parents; after all, they raised their daughter, so they had to give her something in return.
Tang Baozhu nodded. Since he had already made his preparations, she didn't intend to say anything more. Whether he gave her a lot or a little, it was all a token of his goodwill. In this day and age, 500 yuan was more than enough.
The two of them carried their luggage downstairs, checked out at the front desk, and headed straight for the alley.
When Tang Baozhu and Su Rui'an passed by carrying their luggage, those gossipy women saw them again, but because Tang Baozhu was accompanied by an acquaintance, their gazes were not as sharp.
Upon arriving at Su Rui'an's home, there was a small courtyard, about a hundred square meters, with a stone path running through the middle and empty spaces on both sides, where vegetables could be grown.
There looks like there's a well nearby, covered with a stone slab. I wonder if the water in that well is sweet.
After all, it seems that very few wells in Beijing are drinkable. Although most are drinkable, many are bitter, and sweet water wells are extremely rare.
The main house has three rooms, and there is one room on each of the left and right wing rooms.
Tang Baozhu followed Su Rui'an around the courtyard. The main house had three rooms: a living room with a bedroom on each side; two side rooms, one used as a kitchen and the other an empty room.
There was another row of houses behind, five in total. The leftmost and rightmost houses were next to the wall. I glanced at them and they looked like they were just storage rooms, though they were all empty. I guess they didn't have anything to put there yet.
Tang Baozhu guessed that Su Ruian had just bought the house recently. Although it was cleaned quite well, it was still clear that no one had lived there for a long time.
"Brother Su, this courtyard is really nice. It must have been recently purchased. How much does a courtyard this big cost?"
Tang Baozhu felt that since houses were cheaper now, it wouldn't hurt to buy more, since they could be left to her children in the future.
