The investigation revealed a shocking truth: there were six traitors who had infiltrated the Dawn Base. Apart from two who self-destructed their crystal cores when they were captured, four others survived—the same ones initially controlled by Xia Yixin.
It was both unexpected and expected. They were from Base R, the group that entered before Xia Yixin issued the "base lockdown" order. In other words, Su Feng already had ambitions for Base K when he went there.
What's even more suspicious is the hidden weapon this group of people are carrying—a kind of launcher worn on the wrist. The ingenious technology and design made even the old scientists in Xia's father's experimental group exclaim "Impossible!"
“Although the silver needle only contains adrenaline, it is not simple. It looks like a silver needle, but it is actually a syringe. Even before the apocalypse, it would be difficult for any country to invent something so sophisticated,” Xia’s father said, frowning.
Xia Yixin also sensed that something was wrong. If they wanted to cause trouble, why didn't they put something more potent in the silver needles, instead of just adrenaline?
Unfortunately, they couldn't get anything out of the four people from R Base. Their original mission was to search for information from Dawn Base and send it out. They were caught before they finished gathering information, and the communicator they used to communicate with Su Feng was also found by the inspection team at their residence.
It's the same as what they told me.
The only suspicious point was the order from Su Feng that the two people who came in after them brought to them. They were only told to create chaos when the opportunity arose, and then they were given a wrist-worn needle-type shooting weapon.
They had never seen it even at R Base before, and thought Su Feng had gotten it from somewhere. Xia Yixin also confirmed with Chen Zhe that P Base didn't have it either.
Even if Chen Zhe was hiding something, the bewildered look on his face when he saw the wristband was something he couldn't fake, given his personality.
Furthermore, after examining the bodies of the two people who supposedly "self-destructed," the lab staff found small explosive devices in their heads, meaning they were not "self-destructed" but were shot remotely.
The only good news is that there are people in the base who are skilled in advanced technology and data. They are using the remote control of their explosive devices to locate the launch source, but it will take time.
"Garbage system, come out here! What's going on? There are three dimensions here. Tell me, which dimension has such high-tech stuff?" Xia Yixin questioned the system in her mind.
The system weakly replied, "Host, I can't find out what's going on either, but I can tell you for sure that this thing doesn't belong to this plane. It must have been brought by outsiders, or perhaps by other conquerors."
"Other players?" she frowned.
The system explained, "After all, this is a large plane that combines multiple planes. There might be other system strategists doing missions. However, host, I feel that his (her) behavior is not like he (her) is trying to cause trouble, but more like he (her) is trying to remind you."
It's truly one wave after another.
However, the system's analysis is not without reason. After all, instruments that are impossible to exist in this dimension must be accompanied by more lethal agents.
After leaving the lab, Xia Yixin only announced that people from the R base had infiltrated the lab in an attempt to create chaos. She kept the wristband, knowing that revealing it would only cause unnecessary panic, especially now that other bases had entered D province one after another.
The entire city was placed under stricter security measures, and a census was conducted on all residents once again.
On the other side, inside the medical room, the atmosphere was frozen.
It was completely dark outside.
After a series of examinations, Hongfeng was found to have no problems except for a few bruises. However, for safety reasons, she stayed in the ward overnight for observation. Hongmeng followed her anxiously.
After regaining her senses, Hongfeng felt guilty for almost causing a disaster. She knew that although it was premeditated, the competition was indeed something she had done on impulse.
If it were a large dose of adrenaline, with Hong Feng's fourth-order fire-type ability, there would be at least hundreds of casualties on the basketball court with so many people gathered there. The more she thought about it, the more she felt that she was too immature. Her brow remained furrowed ever since she regained consciousness.
Hongmeng could tell that his daughter was preoccupied, but he didn't know how to comfort her until he heard a knock on the door behind him.
It was Chen Qian.
Aside from the burns on his wrist, Chen Qian didn't have any serious injuries. He came over with bandages on and greeted Hong Meng when he saw him there, saying, "Uncle Hong."
Hong Meng couldn't bring himself to be kind to the person who killed his son, but he also knew that some things were hard to explain. Just as he was hesitating whether to drive him away or what, Hong Feng spoke up.
"Dad, I'm a little hungry. Can you get me some food?"
At this hour, all we can eat is a late-night snack. Hongmeng understood that his daughter actually wanted him to leave for a while.
He respected her wishes, but gave Chen Qian a warning glare as he left.
Only Chen Qian and Hong Feng remained in the ward. Outside, the lights of the Dawn Base twinkled, creating a peaceful scene, as if everything had returned to the state before the apocalypse.
The two people in the room were no longer the same.
Hongfeng still had a scratch on her cheek from where the fist had grazed her, and Chen Qian had a black eye. Neither of them really fought to the death, at least not before Hongfeng was pricked with the needle.
Hongfeng got out of bed as soon as the other person entered the ward and looked at him coldly from the furthest distance.
Chen Qian's eyes darkened slightly, and he stopped across the hospital bed, finally saying what he had kept hidden for five years.
"sorry."
Let's break up.
The clear female voice rang out almost simultaneously. Chen Qian was stunned. The flame in his heart reignited before it was extinguished, whether out of resentment or something else.
He stared intently at the girl before him. She was wearing a white and blue hospital gown, which made her appear even more slender and petite. Despite being a cute and gentle girl, she exuded a chilling aura of rejection. Five years had passed, and the shy little girl from back then had become calm and collected.
A thought struck him, and he said slowly, "They are my parents. I could not have killed them, but in the past three years, I have made them receive the punishment they deserve, and there are others as well."
As he spoke, he took out more than a dozen crystal cores from his pocket, which were clearly human.
“These are the crystal cores of people involved in that incident five years ago. There’s another one here,” he said, pointing to his head with a deep gaze.
Hong Feng's pupils constricted, and a red light flashed in her palm. "Chen Qian, do you really think I wouldn't dare to kill you!"
Instead of backing away, Chen Qian moved closer, calmly meeting her gaze, his eyes conveying the message, "Then go ahead and do it."
The murderous intent in Hongfeng's eyes grew stronger, but just as she was about to make her move, she let go.
"That's enough. Five years has passed. It's meaningless now. You can leave."
She suddenly felt it was all meaningless. What difference would it make if she killed Chen Qian? Her brother wouldn't come back to life.
Her words, however, instantly rendered Chen Qian speechless, rendering him speechless.
Hongfeng became even calmer. Seeing that he wouldn't leave, she was about to push him out when Chen Qian grabbed her instead.
