"Ah!" the perverted dean screamed.
Bang bang bang!
Three more sounds.
The perverted dean didn't even know where the attack came from; the steel bullet had already pierced his lower back, shoulder, and heart.
He collapsed to the ground like a rag doll, spitting out blood, barely breathing.
The entire turn of events took no more than ten seconds.
After Xia Yixin fired the steel bullet, she immediately jumped down from the tree. She increased her speed to the maximum and had already reached the third floor and kicked open the door when the perverted dean fell to the ground.
Whoosh!
The windowpane, with three holes broken, finally shattered under the buzzing vibrations, the loud noise waking everyone who was pretending to be asleep.
She pulled the stunned little boy up and ran to the second-floor washroom, just in time to catch up with the female teachers who came out to check.
Under the pale moonlight, two small figures were reflected in the bathroom mirror.
After all, it was her first time killing someone, and even though it was a psychopath, she still had some indescribable feelings.
She suppressed her racing heart and quickly checked the little boy's clothes. Apart from a few bloodstains, they were clean. He was still clutching the knife in his hand, which disgusted her. She picked it up, washed it, and threw it into the toilet. At that time, toilets were all earthen toilets with latrines underneath.
"Take off your shirt, quick." She noticed blood on his body.
Surprisingly, the little boy cooperated by taking off his clothes. The good food he had been eating these past few days had helped him gain some weight, and he no longer looked skinny and wiry, but rather fair and tender.
She first circled around him worriedly, and found no external injuries other than the cut on his hand caused by a razor blade. This surprised her, especially since even the wound on his hand had almost healed.
How could a five- or six-year-old child fight with an adult for so long without sustaining any injuries?
But she didn't have time to think for long. She washed off the few bloodstains on his clothes and dressed him again. She didn't notice that the cold fragrance in the air had become even stronger.
At that moment, a female teacher screamed from upstairs; the body of the perverted dean had been discovered.
Before leaving, Xia Yixin looked at him seriously and said, word by word, "Listen, you can't say a word about what happened tonight. This is our secret, understand?"
It was only then that she noticed the boy's difference.
The boy looked at her, and all the madness and bloodlust that had been in his deep, dark eyes had vanished. His eyes, which had concealed their wolfish nature, now held obvious joy, like a starry sky suddenly lit up, a flame lit in the cold night, and a bit like a silly roe deer.
"What are you laughing about? Did you understand?" she said, a little impatiently.
She was relieved when she saw the little boy nod. Seeing his well-behaved appearance, she couldn't help but touch the top of his head, which was soft and warm.
She sent the little boy out to blend into the group of toddlers who had run away, and only after they were far away did she ask the system in her mind.
"Is this child also someone from the novel world I've transmigrated into?"
"Hmm, I don't know either, but I don't sense any connection between this child and the novel. Maybe he's just a slightly more powerful extra?"
Xia Yixin realized she was overthinking it; the child was just a little smarter than others.
The police arrived before dawn.
The dean's death was definitely a homicide, but criminal investigation methods in the 1990s were not advanced enough to find any footprints or fingerprints. What was strange was that after the dean died, apart from the three female teachers and the school doctor who were terrified and left immediately, the children were not panicked at all, but instead looked cheerful.
This puzzled the police. Later investigations revealed that the director had abused children, which made the police feel that the perverted director deserved to die. They then stopped paying attention to finding the murderer. Of course, that's another story.
With the director dead and the teacher fleeing, the town government officials immediately transferred the twenty-odd children to another welfare home. Xia Yixin was somewhat relieved to see that the welfare home was well-decorated and the female director who received them was quite nice.
Upon receiving the news, the Chinese couple who were planning to come and claim their relatives rushed over overnight. When they saw the woman who looked 90% like the original owner of the body at the entrance of the new welfare home, she confirmed that the parents were definitely the biological parents of this body.
The Xia couple were very excited. After thanking the police and the new director profusely, they prepared to take her away. Before leaving, Xia Yixin also said goodbye to the other children in the orphanage. Sister Hua and the others had tears in their eyes. She looked around but couldn't find the little wolf cub.
Just before getting on the bus, a small figure suddenly ran out of the building.
It's a wolf cub.
Xia Yixin couldn't help but laugh, and broke free from the couple's hands to greet them.
"I'm leaving now. You live well here. If anyone dares to treat you like that again, use this."
Xia Yixin didn't have much time, so she finished speaking quickly and quietly slipped the knife into his pocket. Just as she was about to pull it out, her wrist was grabbed by him.
The boy held her wrist tightly, but not too tightly, as if he were clutching his most precious treasure.
In his heart, Xia Yixin was a flame. She was the first person to hold him and the only one who would give him a smile. Her smile was like a lighthouse he chased in the cold night, making him feel warm and wanting to hold her in his hands, yet afraid of crushing her.
Although the little boy doesn't know what this feeling is yet, in the future, these emotions hidden in his heart will make him sink deeper and deeper.
He opened his mouth, but after a long while, he couldn't say a word that was lingering in his mind. He only managed to say, "Lu Yan, my name is... Lu Yan."
It turned out he wasn't a little mute. The cute little boy was a head shorter than her, thin, and his medium-length hair covered half of his face, which was destined to bring disaster to the country in the future.
