StarCraft: Another Future (41)

The medical staff arrived quickly.

Xia Yixin returned to the white medical building, but this time it was for Lu Yuan.

The attending physician happened to be the same one who treated Xia Yixin last time. After examining Lu Yuan's condition, he frowned and said, "Commander Lu, if I may be frank, your health is the most important thing, no matter how big the problem is. I suggest that you two be hospitalized and rest for a week."

The female doctor had already noticed that Xia Yixin's mental state was not very good.

So, in a daze, after the nurse who re-bandaged Lu Yuan's wound left, Xia Yixin belatedly realized that she and Lu Yuan had ended up in a double room.

The ward for two was much larger than her previous one. If it weren't for the fact that everything was white, it would look almost like a large hotel suite. There were only the two of them left in the room, and the atmosphere was a little awkward. Lu Yuan put on his white uniform with his back to her, but she had already noticed that he had a lot of scars on his body, especially on his back, when the nurse was applying medicine.

The man suddenly turned around, and before she could look away, she caught a glimpse of his strong chest and abdominal muscles, as well as a noticeable scar on his chest, like a bullet hole.

That position was definitely a narrow escape from death.

Everyone in the Allied Nations knows that Lu Yuan once led his team to wipe out the Predator's lair, but looking back now, it certainly wasn't that easy three years ago. It's easy to guess that Qian Dahai was worried that Lu Yuan's "merits were too great and threatened the master." He probably used underhanded tactics quite a bit.

Lu Yuan noticed her gaze as well. He buttoned up his white uniform one button at a time before speaking, "The DNA test results should be back in about three hours. Those two skeletons might not be theirs, and V's words might not be true. Also, Po has the best system experts here. We will definitely find out his true purpose. I will not let him hurt you again, cough cough cough..."

His domineering words were interrupted by several coughs, and his face turned slightly pale with each cough.

She quickly poured him a glass of water and handed it to him. She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that his complexion had improved after drinking it. She couldn't help but complain, "You should rest first. We can talk about tomorrow's problems tomorrow. You're not made of iron. I'm not in a hurry, so why are you?" Only after she finished speaking did she realize that her tone was wrong. He wanted to help, but she was arguing with him.

She was about to apologize when the man opposite her suddenly laughed.

"You care about me."

It sounded like a child's tone, with a hint of pride and satisfaction.

She opened her mouth as if to refute, but for some reason couldn't find the words. After hesitating for a long time, she finally admitted, "Yes, I care about you. I'm not a block of wood; if you care about me, I'll naturally care about you too. Lu Yuan, I know what you mean, but I..."

"I understand." The smile on Lu Yuan's face had disappeared; he knew that if he continued, her words would be a rejection.

Outside the window, a sliver of dawn was already appearing on the distant horizon.

It was the female doctor's knock on the door that broke the awkward silence between the two; both were patients and needed to rest.

The two hospital beds in the room were only an arm's length apart.

It was an incredibly chaotic and long day. In the morning, as she was being cheered by thousands of people from the Allied Powers, she was still thinking about keeping her distance from him and hoping to find a way out of the experimental system. But 20 hours later, she experienced utter disappointment in V and the shock of those videos...

If there were a scale, with the left side representing the real world and the right side representing illusion, she felt that the scale had already tipped to the left.

She felt like a drowning person, desperately trying to grab onto something. She knew it wasn't love, but she also knew she could no longer simply treat him as a friend.

Xia Yixin originally thought she definitely wouldn't be able to sleep, her mind was a mess, but after calming down, the immense exhaustion immediately overwhelmed her, and she drifted off to sleep. In her drowsy state, she felt a source of heat and unconsciously moved closer, but she didn't smell the cool fragrance she remembered. She tried to break free, but exhaustion and the other person's restraint made her gradually give up.

Lu Yuan never imagined that he would be so shameless. He had actually seriously considered what she called "transference." He did become more and more interested in her after watching all the clips of her and Lu Yan's interactions, and then he couldn't stop. But in fact, he had become curious about her from the moment she proposed the collaboration.

She is intelligent, calm, and rational, yet also emotional and sensitive, and can easily trust others, like a little fox. Initially, she is very wary, but once she accepts you, she can give you her softest heart.

She was like a poison specifically prescribed for him; by the time he realized it, it was already too late to cure him.

Lu Yuan looked down at the sleeping woman and unconsciously tightened his arms around her.

The words V had spoken a few hours earlier after Xia Yixin left flashed through my mind.

"Commander Lu, lies will eventually be exposed. Have you thought about the price of being a hero?"

V is threatening him.

Lu Yuan understood what he meant. The rescue in the combat system—even Xia Yixin thought it was him—but he remembered it clearly. When he met Xia Yixin after entering the combat system, she had already been taken to the mountain peak by another mecha almost identical to him. Unfortunately, that mecha was eventually dragged down by the monster, and he naturally caught Xia Yixin, completing the mission of taking her out.

He was indeed not a "hero," and the other administrator mech in the combat system was V, which was actually a secret that Lu Yuan had never revealed.

In retrospect, it has become a knot in his heart.

Lu Yuan wasn't one to hesitate. His hand unconsciously stroked the woman's hair in his arms, and the small feeling of satisfaction made him reluctant to let go. V's words also reminded him that he should be honest with her.
