Xia Yixin arrived at lunchtime. Chu Mubai had a simple meal of three dishes and a soup in front of him. She subconsciously sat down, and only after she was seated did she realize that she was no longer "Xia Yixin".
Just as she awkwardly tried to get up, Chu Mubai across from her said, "Cold war, add another set of chopsticks and a bowl."
After the cold war was resolved and additional bowls and chopsticks were added, she felt perfectly justified in getting a free meal.
Chu Mubai didn't have a big appetite. After finishing his meal, he quietly drank his tea and watched the man opposite him eating with relish.
After watching for a while, Chu Mubai's eyes narrowed slightly.
Based on Chu Mubai's observations over the past few days, "he" doesn't seem like a man from the desert.
He doesn't seem like a simple herbal medicine merchant at all.
Besides his outstanding military management skills, "he" was different from rough men in many details, but rather as meticulous as a woman. For example, "he" always closed the door and locked the windows when taking a bath, and stayed indoors.
This can be explained by personal habits.
But today, sitting at the same table with "him" and seeing the exceptionally happy expression on his face while eating, even the simplest food seemed like a delicacy to "him." Instead of being embarrassed, he was elegant, with the corners of his lips involuntarily turning up, as innocent as a child.
Chu Mubai actually saw a shadow of someone in "him"—Xia Yixin. She was just as happy when she ate, and he couldn't help but eat more before.
However, he immediately dismissed this ridiculous idea, but the deep longing made his chest ache.
"Cough cough cough cough..." Chu Mubai coughed lightly, clutching his chest.
Xia Yixin couldn't help but frown and put down her chopsticks. "Didn't Chen Chen give you acupuncture?"
Chu Mubai suppressed his cough and shook his head. "Dr. Shen has been quite busy lately, and besides, I'm almost fully recovered; it's just a cough."
"You haven't taken your medicine for too long. If the poison spreads, even a miracle worker couldn't save you. Chu Mubai, do you even know you're going to die?!" Xia Yixin became angrier and angrier as she spoke, especially seeing the other party's calm demeanor, which felt like punching a pile of cotton.
"Did she tell you?" Chu Mubai asked instead of answering, raising his eyes to look at "him".
Xia Yixin was a beat slow to realize what he meant, and shook her head in his hopeful gaze.
"I am a doctor, I can tell your condition at a glance."
Chu Mubai gave a faint, bitter smile, quite self-deprecating.
