“You were right before. I was indeed afraid. I was afraid when I learned that the Black Yama Spear could trigger inner demons and that I was powerless to resist it. But I did not run away.” With a thought, Xia Yixin caused the silver spear that was in Black Yama’s hand to instantly crumble into dust.
This is her illusion, not Black Yama's.
Hei Yan narrowed his eyes slightly, finally finding her somewhat worthy of his attention, but said, "Then I'll reluctantly acknowledge you as my master, but if one day I feel you're unworthy, I will devour you."
As soon as Hei Yanqiang finished speaking, all of Xia Yixin's original wounds healed. She breathed a sigh of relief, finally having made the right bet.
This is the illusion right now.
She put away the Black Yama Spear and waited for the illusion to shatter when suddenly she heard a series of clear bell sounds. A little girl of about three or four years old, wearing a yellow hat and a floral dress, skipped and hopped past her, her tied pigtails bobbing up and down with her movements.
Suddenly, all the memories rushed into her mind; it was her, and the child was herself.
She remembers being diagnosed with ALS when she was six years old. Before that, she had always been a carefree child with a loving mother and a stern father.
She didn't understand why her childhood self appeared in her illusion, but after hesitating for a moment, she followed little Xia Yixin.
The chaotic space around us gradually changed, as if time had traveled through us.
Back then, her family lived in a large area of bungalows, all of which were employee housing in a factory. Because her parents were busy when she was young, she went to and from kindergarten by herself. At a young age, she was the "other people's child" that others talked about.
So every week, Xia's mother would give her a little extra money to buy snacks. She happened to see Xia Yixin buy popsicles in the store, avoid the naughty boys, and happily eat them under a big banyan tree.
She was engrossed in watching when Xia Yixin suddenly turned to look at her. "Sister, is there something you need?"
She can actually see her!
Xia Yixin was surprised at first, then realized that this was her illusion, so naturally she could see her.
She didn't know why her childhood self appeared in her hallucinations; it seemed as if it were preordained.
She walked step by step closer to her childhood self. The little girl had a round face, chubby cheeks, and regular features, but she wasn't the pretty type.
This is what she was originally like.
Perhaps it was her intense gaze that startled Xia Yixin, who stood up with a worried look on her face and asked, "Are you a bad person?"
Was she really this silly when she was little?
Xia Yixin couldn't help but chuckle, then looked away and sat down a short distance away from her. "I just think you're very cute."
The little girl immediately raised her head proudly, "Of course, hehe, the teacher even praised me for being smart today!"
Immediately, the child relaxed and sat down next to her to continue eating his popsicle. He finished it in no time, but his hands were sticky.
Seeing that the little girl was about to wipe her hands with her floral dress, she quickly grabbed her chubby little paws and took out a handkerchief from her storage ring to wipe them clean for her.
This made Xia Yixin's big, cat-like eyes widen. "Auntie, you can do magic tricks?"
Xia Yixin didn't answer. Instead, she took out other delicious food from her storage ring. Looking at the little girl with bright, sparkling eyes, she thought that perhaps her foodie nature had never changed.
She took out mostly dried meat or pastries that had been stored inside before.
After receiving Xia Yixin's words, "It's all for you," she said thank you, then covered most of it with her skirt, seemingly preparing to take it home.
Watching the little girl sway as she was about to leave, Xia Yixin couldn't help but ask, "If one day you lose everything you have now, if you are bedridden and unable to move, only able to drink porridge and unable to eat anything with any flavor, would you be afraid?"
The little girl was a bit confused and didn't understand what she meant. "Why should I worry about these things?"
Because that will be something she, no, something they will encounter in the future.
But when those words reached Xia Yixin's lips, she couldn't say them, not because they were cruel, but because she suddenly understood.
"Yes, why are you worried? After all, it's all in the future." She was saying this to her, but it also seemed like she was saying it to herself.
Why should she worry about something that didn't happen?
She's obsessed. She's already incredibly lucky to have met the system and Lu Yan.
No one can ever know whether tomorrow or an accident will come first, so why should she worry unnecessarily?
The little girl understood the word "future" she mentioned, and asked innocently, "Auntie, do you know about the future?" She remembered that there seemed to be wizards in fairy tales who could perform magic and predict the future.
Looking into the little girl's clear, bright eyes, Xia Yixin couldn't help but squat down and smile, "That's right, is there anything else you want to ask?"
The little girl, her face flushed, lifted her skirt and hesitated for a while before asking, "Can you tell me who I'll marry in the future? Our teacher told us to go home and draw our own Prince Charming today."
Xia Yixin had really forgotten what she did in kindergarten when she was little, but then she smiled and said, "He was very tall, and as for his appearance... he had two ears, two eyebrows, a pair of eyes, and a mouth."
The little girl frowned, looking very worried. "Isn't everyone like this?"
"Yes, but he loves you very much. His eyes sparkle, his heart is burning, and most importantly, you love him too." Xia Yixin rubbed her head.
The little girl seemed to understand but not quite, and finally ran away, carrying her skirt.
As her thoughts shifted, the entire chaotic space vanished instantly, and she regained her clarity.
