There are almost no rumors about Xia Liuer. Everyone is saying things like, "The young marquis is like a god descended to earth. He is handsome and dashing, and can speak eloquently at a young age."
"The young marquis looks just like Xiahou when he was a child, especially those two dimples. When he smiles, you just want to take him home!"
Hearing this rumor, Xia Yixin still had some doubts about whether her tough old father really had two dimples when he was young.
Rumors spread far and wide, and the people all felt that this young marquis was definitely the future hope of Beiwu.
At the Xiahou residence, after getting rid of all the troublemakers, Xia Jingfeng, acting like a eccentric grandfather, tried to coax little Xia Mingyu with a bunch of candies and fruits. Unfortunately, he soon discovered that his grandson was no ordinary person.
"Grandfather, can I go to the Northern Martial Army camp? I want to see the Northern Martial Iron Cavalry." The little boy looked up at Xia Jingfeng, his big eyes full of hope.
Xia Jingfeng nodded, "Okay, okay, I'll go right away!"
Xia Yixin silently rubbed her forehead. "Where do you two think you're going in the middle of the night?"
Xia Jingfeng was a beat slow to realize that it was already dark, and he had already spent a lot of time talking to get rid of those troublesome guys.
Having finalized his plans to go to the military camp early the next morning, Xia Jingfeng happily took his daughter and grandson to the largest restaurant in Beiwu for a meal.
Everyone in the entire capital of Beiwu knew that Xiahou was very happy today; his deep laughter could be heard across the street.
This was definitely the happiest day for Xia Jingfeng in recent years. Although he could occasionally go to the valley before, today meant that he could truly live with his daughter and grandson. Although his public identity was that of a female strategist and adopted son, it couldn't hide the joy emanating from his heart.
So Xia Jingfeng got drunk again.
Drunk and dazed at the table, he asked, "Liu'er, be honest... hiccup, be honest with your father, this child, is he really not that person's?"
For safety reasons, even in private, Xia Jingfeng still called her "Liu'er".
Xia Yixin paused for a moment before realizing who he was referring to—it was Qi Yu.
Before she could answer, Xia Jingfeng spoke up, "No, that's impossible. He's been dead for over a year. This child's age is wrong, haha, wrong age... Come on, let's drink!"
As they were talking, Xia Jingfeng collapsed drunk on the table.
Xia Yixin sighed softly as she looked at the drunk man, her hand unconsciously going to her chest. She gave a self-deprecating smile; hearing that name still made her feel sad.
Just then, a little one nudged over from the side and said in a soft voice, "Mommy, I'm sleepy."
He was still just a three-year-old child. Although he insisted on sitting by himself, he naturally snuggled up to his mother when he got sleepy.
Xia Yixin picked up the little boy and kissed his cheek. "Go to sleep, Mommy's here."
The little dumpling snuggled against her, and Xia Yixin couldn't help but smile.
Just then, she keenly heard a noise on the roof. Even the drunk Xia Jingfeng jumped to his feet, his sword already drawn. "Who's there? Come out!"
With a loud shout, the footsteps on the roof became even more chaotic, as if the person was being chased. Xia Jingfeng opened the window and saw a man in black being chased by more than a dozen Northern Martial Guards.
Xia Jingfeng turned around worriedly to check on them. "Wan'er, are you alright?"
Xia Yixin shook her head. The little dumpling in her arms still looked sleepy. The three of them immediately returned to the Xiahou residence.
The people who chased after him caught the man in black, but unfortunately, he committed suicide.
Back at the Xiahou residence, Xiao Baozi naturally wanted to sleep with Xia Yixin. The two had gotten used to sleeping together in the valley. But before falling asleep, Xia Yixin discovered that Xiao Baozi was holding something in his arms.
It was actually a black and gold dagger!
Without any excessive embellishment, the black blade cuts through iron like mud once drawn from its sheath.
The familiar sight made her heart skip a beat. "What's with this dagger?"
"Mother, this is what Grandfather gave me before he left. He said I should take this to protect you. He also said that the owner of this dagger had a loyal heart, but unfortunately he died unexpectedly." Seeing that his mother's face was pale, he asked in confusion, "Mother, what's wrong?"
It seems that this dagger is the one Qi Yu used before.
She put the dagger back into the little boy's hand. "Mother is alright. You must protect this dagger from now on and never use it to do anything bad."
The little boy nodded firmly, "Mother, don't worry, I will definitely protect you and Beiwu as Grandfather said!"
Looking at the little dumpling with his clear eyes, Xia Yixin couldn't help but sigh softly.
But she didn't see the cunning hidden in Xiao Baozi's eyes. In fact, the dagger was not given to him by Xia Jingfeng, but was found by Xiao Baozi himself in the room.
This dagger had actually been kept by Xia Jingfeng in the room he had arranged for Xia Yixin in the mansion. It was one of the ways Xia Jingfeng compensated his daughter for his guilt, but he had never been too embarrassed to say it.
Xia Yixin thought it would be good to let the little bun who looked like Qi Yu hold it, as it could be considered a kind of inheritance.
The little dumpling was soft, glutinous, and fragrant. She held him and quickly fell asleep. However, she didn't know that in an empty house not far from the Xiahou residence, several men in black were respectfully bowing to a man.
“Master, I failed in my duty and they discovered me, but I can confirm that it is definitely not the person in the portrait.”
The man opposite the man in black.
He was tall and slender, and his black clothes made him look even more aloof. Strangely, his eyes seemed to be blind, without any focus. He was also masked, so no one could see his face, but the pressure he exuded was terrifying.
