Fictional World: The Sickly Young Master is a Little Sweet (8) - Midnight

She didn't want to drink porridge every day anymore. That old lady was so petty; she had already punished him but still cut back on his food rations. Even if she loved her grandson dearly, she shouldn't have done that. But she had no choice but to try her best to improve their living standards.

The rice was steamed and cooled. The cured pork was diced into the finest pieces. The eggs were quickly stir-fried and then combined with the diced cured pork, along with diced wild vegetables she found in the yard. Finally, the cooled rice was added, along with a little salt and sugar. A plate of egg fried rice was successfully prepared.

The aroma is simply irresistible; the chef's skills are incredibly useful.

Not long after the food was cooked, Xiaoman returned. Unable to contain her excitement, she handed her the thick stack of letters in her hand. "Madam, the young master has replied!" She smelled the delicious food and immediately said, "I'll go get the rice!" before heading into the kitchen.

Why is Chu Mubai's story so thick?

Xia Yixin was a little suspicious. She went back to her room and tore open the envelope. It turned out to be a letter within a letter. Before she even read the letter he wrote, she was so angry at the big "Letter of Divorce" on the envelope that she almost vomited blood.

Then, upon reading Chu Mubai's reply, he was left speechless, both amused and exasperated.

Her previous letter to him essentially said that she was a woman of the martial arts world, a heroine among women, and disdained to gamble with a sickly man. The bet on their wedding night was null and void. She had also studied medicine in the desert and obtained a special medical book. In the past few days, she had discovered a prescription in it that could cure his illness. If he didn't believe her, he could ask a doctor. If it worked, then they would first treat his illness and then gamble again once he recovered.

This was written according to the original owner's personality and the most reasonable logic now. Who knew that Chu Mubai's reply was roughly: Thank you for your kindness, young lady. Loss is loss. He is willing to let her leave as promised.

That stubborn person!

Aaaaaahh ...

She wanted to swear!

When Xiaoman entered, she saw Xia Yixin's face turn red. She thought Chu Mubai had written something ambiguous, so she embarrassedly hid away. But then she suddenly saw Xia Yixin tear the letter to shreds.

"lady!"

Xia Yixin suppressed her anger and comforted herself that this guy was just so polite in the original story, otherwise why would he be able to keep his chastity even when he met that Mary Sue heroine?

"I'm fine. Let's eat first, and then you can deliver a letter for me after we finish eating." Xia Yixin gritted her teeth inwardly. To deal with this kind of pedantic guy, she had to resort to drastic measures.

The East Garden is still filled with the aroma of medicinal herbs.

As usual, Chu Mubai practiced calligraphy in his study after his afternoon nap. His demeanor was enough to attract attention, not to mention his handsome face. However, Chu Mubai did not have any maids by his side, only servants. Otherwise, the maids in the mansion would have fought tooth and nail for this position.

Leng Zhan silently stood by, feeling that his master had been restless ever since that little girl from the West Garden sent the letter.

Although he continued to take his medicine, exercise, eat, and take a nap as usual, he felt that Chu Mubai was not right. Leng Zhan secretly regretted that he should not have let that little girl slip through his fingers.

"The Cold War." Chu Mubai's jade-like voice rang out in the room. "Has there been a reply to the prescription?"

He actually kept the prescription Xia Yixin gave him and had it sent to the Imperial Hospital. Although he outwardly rejected her suggestion, he hoped more than anyone else that the prescription would really work.

"Reporting to Master, there has been no reply yet." Leng Zhan didn't take it to heart at all. He thought, what kind of miraculous remedies could a woman from the desert know?

Chu Mubai frowned slightly.

Logically, a simple prescription should have yielded a response within a few hours, so why has the Imperial Hospital delayed for so long? Could there really be something wrong with the prescription...?

Just then, a commotion suddenly came from the direction of the courtyard gate, and Xiaoman's voice could be faintly heard shouting, "It's Madam who sent me to deliver a message!"

Xiao Man was stopped by the guards at the door again.

Leng Zhan was about to go and handle the situation himself when Chu Mubai unexpectedly said, "Leng Zhan, bring her in."

Leng Zhan held his breath, his face cold as he went out and brought in the excited Xiao Man. The difference in their expressions was stark.

Xiao Man didn't just bring a letter; she also carried a tray with a bowl of white porridge on it. Ignoring the cold, icy face of the man she was in, she said to Chu Mubai, "Madam said she wants the young master to try this porridge. I'll wait outside."

Xiao Man put down the tray and quickly left the study. Leng Zhan looked at the bowl of white porridge as if facing a formidable enemy. "Master, this porridge..." Surely she wouldn't poison it!

Chu Mubai's sense of smell was extraordinary. After years of taking medicine, his sense of taste had become dulled, but his sense of smell had become better and better. He picked it up and smelled it; it was just a bowl of ordinary white porridge.

He frowned slightly and opened the letter she had written. The scrawled handwriting made him frown even more, but after reading it, he couldn't help but laugh, and he laughed heartily. However, after laughing for a while, he started coughing.

"Master?" Leng Zhan was surprised; he had forgotten how many years it had been since his master had smiled.

Chu Mubai suppressed a cough, carefully folded the letter, and, to Leng Zhan's astonishment, drank the entire bowl of congee in one gulp.

The plain porridge was bland and tasteless, with hardly any rice grains.

The letter Xia Yixin wrote was actually full of insults directed at him. She called him a coward who only knew how to avoid problems, said that the old lady was petty and that she, as a patient, only had two bowls of porridge a day, which were shared by the master and servant. She said that he only cared about his own happiness and didn't care about the lives of others. She said that if she went back to the Minister's Mansion with the letter of divorce, she would be doomed. Moreover, she had already given him the prescription, but he was being unreasonable... In short, she gave Chu Mubai a severe scolding without using any vulgar language.

"Master?" Leng Zhan panicked a little. Had his master gone mad with anger?

Chu Mubai's smile remained unchanged. For some reason, he had a feeling that what he was looking for had returned. As for the man who had appeared at her place last night, he had already selectively forgotten about it for the time being.
