Bring Sun Min

Bring Sun Min

He replayed Wang Yao's words in his mind, a puzzled look on his face. "Why are you suddenly moving? Where are you planning to move to?"

Wang Yao briefly explained her and her mother's plans, and Liu Xiangqiu became a little anxious upon hearing them.

Why do these two, mother and daughter, act on a whim? Is doing business in the county so easy? Besides, it's just the two of them, without a man to protect them. Yao Yao is still a helpless teenager. What if she gets taken advantage of or bullied?

Hearing her concerns, Liu Xiangmei's expression darkened.

She also longed for someone to protect her, but Yao Yao's father was already dead. What could she do? Life had to go on, and she still had to continue supporting Yao Yao's education.

Even without a man, she had to stand tall and persevere.

Seeing her second sister still nagging and trying to persuade her, Liu Xiangmei became a little impatient and raised her voice, saying, "Won't the earth still turn without a man? I want to earn my own money and raise my own children. I refuse to believe that in such a big county, there won't be a single bite of food for me, Liu Xiangmei."

Liu Xiangmei suddenly hardened her stance, and Liu Xiangqiu instinctively shrank back. Then, remembering that this was her own sister, not a member of the Sun family, she still muttered defiantly, "I'm doing this for your own good. It's not easy for a woman to work hard outside..."

Seeing her mother frowning and about to start arguing again, Wang Yao felt a headache coming on. Why couldn't these two just talk things out calmly? It was always one way or the other.

Wang Yao, the "Fire Extinguisher," used her body as a wall to separate the two, and asked Liu Xiangqiu, "Second Aunt, has it been decided which school Minmin will go to?"

Speaking of Sun Min, Liu Xiangqiu sighed, "It's settled, we're sending her to a vocational school in the city to study nursing. I heard that school guarantees job placement. Yesterday at noon, as soon as your second aunt's husband mentioned it, that girl started crying. Tell me, it's such a good opportunity for a girl like her to study nursing, especially since your second aunt's husband asked a friend to find her a school in the city. It's such a great opportunity, but she still doesn't want it. When asked what she wants to study, she's such a quiet person, she won't say a word. It's driving me crazy!"

Wang Yao was speechless. Was Sun Min crying because of her major? She was probably crying because she was going to vocational school!

Although leaving vocational school was a good option for people in the 1990s, Sun Min, who always had excellent grades, was definitely not among them.

Hearing Liu Xiangqiu still saying, "If Sun Min were half as sensible as you, Yao Yao, we adults wouldn't have to worry so much. When I went out just now, I saw her sitting alone by the window, staring at the sky with her big eyes, not knowing what she was thinking. She didn't say anything, and I was afraid she would get sick from being so bored. Sigh!"

Didn't Sun Min say so? She said she wanted to go back to study, but you guys disagreed!

Liu Xiangmei was furious when she thought of Sun Min sitting alone by the window, and then saw her second sister acting as if Sun Min was being unreasonable. She wanted to say something, but her daughter stopped her.

Wang Yao also felt sorry for Sun Min and hoped that she wouldn't develop any more psychological problems from holding it in.

"Second Aunt, why don't we let Sun Min come back to town with us? We can talk to her, she can relax, and she can also help us move some things out."

When Liu Xiangmei heard this, she thought it was a good idea. It wouldn't do for the child to stay at home all the time and get bored.

Liu Xiangqiu thought for a moment and said, "That's fine. This child just hasn't quite figured things out yet. You're about the same age, so you can help your second aunt persuade her. When you move, make sure she does a lot of chores at home."

Wang Yao agreed and told Liu Xiangqiu to hurry home and call Sun Min so they could take the 8 o'clock bus together.

While waiting for Sun Min, Wang Yao saw an old man pushing a cart at the entrance of the train station not far away.

Wang Yao quickly pulled her mother to the cart. Seeing that the uncle was selling pastries like glutinous rice strips and peach crisps, she begged her mother to pay.

Liu Xiangmei shook her head, "We already have enough stuff to move. We can't finish all this stuff in a short time, and it's too much trouble to move it around."

Wang Yao said, "It was bought for Grandpa Li and Li Cheng."

Liu Xiangmei was puzzled, "Why do we suddenly want to buy them things?"

Wang Yao counted on her fingers: "First, when we fought with Old Wang's family, it was Grandpa Li who brought the village chief. Shouldn't we thank him?"

He pointed to his forehead and continued, "Secondly, they even gave me medicine for my injuries, so shouldn't we be even more grateful to them?"

Although she only used the wound medicine the night before last, Wang Yao felt that the Chinese medicine was too ugly and troublesome to apply to her forehead when she left the county yesterday, so she didn't use it. She only brought a bottle of gentian violet, planning to use it at night and cover the wound with her hair during the day.

Liu Xiangmei thought about what Wang Yao said, nodded, and felt that it made a lot of sense. Besides, she thought that she had something to ask of her when she got back today, so she should buy something for her.

Wang Yao was unaware of Liu Xiangmei's thoughts. What Liu Xiangmei said earlier was indeed what she thought, but she also had a more secretive idea: to subtly curry favor with the Li family.

She wasn't trying to use the Li family's connections for anything; these little things wouldn't win people over. She just wanted to build good relationships, in case they came in handy someday!

Both mother and daughter had ulterior motives; they bought several pounds of pastries and two steamed buns from the side.

Back at the bus station entrance, they saw Liu Xiangqiu pulling Sun Min along as they walked quickly towards them. Sun Min was being dragged along by her mother, her face full of reluctance.

As the others approached, Liu Xiangmei pulled Sun Min to her side and stuffed a steamed bun into her hand. "Have you had breakfast? Your aunt just bought this for you, it's still warm, eat it quickly."

Liu Xiangqiu exclaimed, "Oh dear!" and said, "Sun Min has already eaten. Let Yao Yao eat; she's still growing!"

Wang Yao really wanted to roll her eyes. She and Sun Min were the same age. She was born in May, and Sun Min was born in July. She was even a month older than Sun Min. How come she was the only one who was growing?

Liu Xiangmei didn't want to waste any more words with her second sister, so she waved her hand and said, "Alright, don't worry about it. We're leaving."

As she spoke, she led the two children into the station.

After the three of them boarded the bus, before departure time, Liu Xiangmei had the two children sit together while she sat in the back row.

Sun Min kept her head down the whole time, didn't say a word, and held the steamed bun in her hand without showing any intention of eating it.

Seeing this, Wang Yao didn't rush to persuade her. If this happened to her, she would be furious too.

If the family didn't have money and couldn't afford to send their child to repeat a grade, that would be one thing. My aunt's family runs a grocery store near the train station. They're not exactly rolling in money, but they're certainly not worried about food and clothing. Yet, they insisted on sending their child to vocational school regardless of the child's wishes. They must have lost their minds!

Wang Yao opened the backpack in her arms, took out gentian violet and cotton swabs, and then poked Sun Min with her elbow.

Seeing that Sun Min finally looked up at people, but her eyes were bloodshot, it was hard to tell whether she hadn't slept all night or had been crying for too long.

But Wang Yao seemed oblivious, brushing her hair back and handing over the gentian violet, saying, "Help me apply the medicine, I can't see it myself."

Sun Min glanced at the still slightly red and swollen wound on Wang Yao's forehead, said nothing, and silently dipped a cotton swab in gentian violet before carefully applying it to Wang Yao's wound.

Wang Yao's mouth didn't stop, "Do you know how I got this wound?"

Seeing that Sun Min didn't answer, Wang Yao didn't mind, "She was injured in a fall."

She looked around again and said in a low voice, "I almost fell to my death. When I was lying in bed, I felt like I saw my dad coming to pick me up."

Sun Min knew that Wang Yao's father had recently passed away, and she even went to pay her respects with her parents.

I remember Wang Yao crying constantly during those days; she looked so pitiful, a stark contrast to her carefree demeanor now.

"Really, I almost left with my dad, but when I heard that the old woman from the Wang family was bullying my mom, I immediately decided not to leave. I had to stay and keep my mom company and help her deal with the old woman. By the way, that old woman was my grandma."

Sun Min paused as she closed the gentian violet cap. Her grandmother often bullied her mother, but her mother didn't need her help.

The reason why Mom is bullied is because of her, her daughter. Because she is a daughter, Mom is bullied. If she were a son, her parents would probably give her whatever she wanted!
