Li Jin is back.

Li Jin is back.

"Hello? May I ask...?"

Niu Ling snapped out of her daze and, before the man could ask any more questions, hurriedly said, "Yes, yes, Wang Yao is here. Are you hers?"

"I guess you could call me the older brother."

Brother is brother, what do you mean by "considered brother"?

"Could you please call Wang Yao for me? I'm in a bit of a hurry, thank you."

Alright, since you're so handsome, I'll reluctantly do you a favor this time.

"Wang Yao, Wang Yao, your brother is looking for you!" Niu Ling shouted as she walked to the classroom door.

Wang Yao looked completely bewildered. Where did she get a brother from?

Stepping out of the classroom, I was startled. "Brother Li? What brings you here?"

That's right, the person who came was Li Jin. He had just returned to his unit after completing a mission when he heard that Zhang Wei had called him a few days ago and asked him to call back.

Zhang Wei is indeed a bit of a jerk, but if someone specifically asks him to return the call, it must be something important.

Just as he expected, something had indeed happened, but thankfully Aunt Liu and Wang Yao were unharmed.

Although Zhang Wei repeatedly told him on the phone that the person had been arrested, he still wanted to come back and see, otherwise he would feel uneasy.

So he didn't even attend the commendation ceremony; he just took leave and came back.

All the way, Li Jin kept thinking that with one accident after another, Wang Yao would probably be very scared and anxious. But he never expected that when they met again, the person in front of him would still be Wang Yao's smiling face, shining like the sun.

"Brother Li?"

"Hmm." Li Jin looked down at Wang Yao's face, the clumsy words of comfort he had prepared suddenly vanishing without a trace.

Huh? Huh what? Why is this person getting even stranger? Wang Yao thought to herself.

Actually, Li Jin wanted to ask Wang Yao if she was alright, but obviously there was no need to ask; the answer was already written in her bright smile.

Before Wang Yao could ask again, Li Jin said, "I came back to see Grandpa and Li Cheng."

Wang Yao nodded, "You haven't found Grandpa yet? Grandpa is working as an accountant in my family's shop now. Go to the shop and look for him. Xiao Chengzi should be at kindergarten by now."

After saying that, Wang Yao realized that Li Jin probably didn't know the exact location of her shop, so she added, "My shop is downstairs from the house I rent. You'll see it when you get there. Call Hao Zai Lai Restaurant."

Wang Yao's mouth opened and closed, but it was like talking to a brick wall, because Li Jin wasn't listening to anything she said at all; he was just staring at her without blinking.

Yes, just like before, she hasn't been affected by those dirty things at all. That's good. He likes Wang Yao like this.

After a long pause, Li Jin finally said, "Okay, I understand."

Although he was in the army, he would call his grandfather from time to time. His grandfather would talk about his recent life on the phone, and he could imagine from his grandfather's description how the mother and daughter had gained a foothold in an unfamiliar county and made the Haozailai Restaurant a success.

This time, if he hadn't taken on an urgent mission, they wouldn't have been left isolated and helpless. Zhang Wei, that bastard, would have been utterly useless.

"Achoo~"

Zhang Wei sat in his office and sneezed in a very convoluted way. He looked out the window; the sun was shining brightly, so why did he feel a chill down his back? Something was wrong.

It wasn't that I saw a ghost, but that Li Jin had arrived.

His gaze shifted from the window back, and out of the corner of his eye, he saw someone standing at the door. Upon closer inspection, it was Li Jin.

He rubbed his eyes again, and when he looked again, it was indeed Li Jin.

Good heavens, wasn't this guy still at the military base yesterday afternoon? How did he end up here now? And what's with that expression? He looks like a living Yama.

Seeing Li Jin point outside the office building and turn to leave, Zhang Wei had a bad feeling and subconsciously didn't want to go, but his legs followed him against his will. There was nothing he could do; after all, this was his old squad leader, and obedience was ingrained in his bones.

Li Jin, standing in the courtyard, turned around and saw Zhang Wei still dawdling behind her. She frowned and said, "Hurry up."

"Whoosh whoosh whoosh~" In less than two seconds, Zhang Wei was already standing in front of Li Jin.

"Tell me in detail what happened?"

Although Li Jin did not specify which matter, Zhang Wei knew what to say and carefully recounted everything he knew from beginning to end.

Li Jin would sometimes frown, sometimes smile and nod, and occasionally reveal a hint of pride.

Zhang Wei swore he had never seen such a rich array of expressions on Li Jin's dead face; it was truly an eye-opener.

After explaining the situation, Zhang Wei thought Li Jin would be very satisfied, or at least express his appreciation for Zhang Wei's work, if not gratitude.

However, Li Jin scoffed, "You think you did a good job?"

Isn't that good? The suspect has been apprehended, the matter has been investigated, and now we're just waiting for the verdict. Isn't that good?

"First, you received a report at noon and, in broad daylight, you led a group of people to storm into someone's restaurant and search it, causing panic among the diners and onlookers. Did you consider the impact of this incident?"

Zhang Wei protested, "That was our director leading the team, not me."

"Then you should have tried to stop them. Did you do it?"

Zhang Wei lowered his head and remained silent.

Li Jin continued, "Secondly, when you received the report at night, you immediately handed over the investigation to your subordinates. What were you doing? Sitting in your office, legs crossed, waiting for reports? It was something two thugs did, and your men took several days to investigate and find out the truth. Weren't you worried at all?"

Zhang Wei argued, "It's not a big case."

Li Jin angrily asked, "What is a big case? What is a small case? Have you ever thought about how they would respond if those people came to your door again after they reported the crime because you didn't arrest them in time? Do you only bother to investigate when someone dies?"

Zhang Wei blushed with embarrassment. People passing by secretly glanced at them, making Zhang Wei wish he could disappear into the ground.

Li Jin continued, "You used to be a soldier, now you're a policeman. Please remember that the safety of the people should always be the top priority. Don't let comfort corrupt your integrity."

After saying that, Li Jin turned and left, leaving Zhang Wei standing alone in the same spot.

When Wang Yao was leaving school, Niu Ling shamelessly insisted on following her.

"Oh, I'll just go to your shop for a quick look, just one look, don't be reluctant to leave."

Wang Yao was speechless. Who was reluctant to part with it?

She told Niu Ling, "Li Jin is probably not in my shop. And let me repeat, he already has a child, so stop being so infatuated."

Niu Ling's mind has been completely overwhelmed by the handsome men; she can't listen to anything anymore and only wants to look at them.

Wang Yao sighed helplessly. Fine, let him watch if he wants. He's so handsome, isn't he just there to be admired?

So Wang Yao brought Niu Ling and Sun Min to the store. There were relatively few people in the store at this time, because most customers would not arrive until after 6:30.

Of course, because it's quite difficult to get a table at Hao Zai Lai Restaurant, it usually starts getting crowded around 6 PM.

The three of them could see Chen Xiu standing in front of the barbecue grill from afar, skillfully grilling skewers.

Now, Chen Xiu can basically handle the barbecue business on her own. In Wang Yao's opinion, Chen Xiu has a higher talent for cooking than Liu Xiangmei. Although she has never focused on this before, it's not too late now.

Niu Ling took a deep breath. "It smells so good! I know it'll taste delicious without even tasting it. What a pity."

Wang Yao turned around and asked, "What's a pity?"

"It's a pity it's too expensive. I can only afford to eat such delicious barbecue on weekends by begging my dad. I can't afford it with my own pocket money."

After hearing this, Wang Yao began to ponder.

Indeed, ordering barbecue à la carte and wanting to eat your fill will definitely cost more than a few dollars. So in the evening, the restaurant is mostly frequented by adults, and even if there are children, they are usually brought by adults.

In that case, wouldn't the evening sessions just lose out on the student customer base for nothing?

Although the store's evening business is very good now, Wang Yao feels that it can be even better. Otherwise, she feels bad about not making money.

"Ah~" Niu Ling whispered in my ear, "Wang Yao, look! He looks even more handsome with an apron on! I can already imagine him cooking for me in the kitchen... So handsome, so handsome, I can't take it anymore, I'm dying."

Wang Yao's arm was gripped so tightly by the excited Niu Ling that it hurt. She reluctantly pulled her hand back and looked into the store in the direction Niu Ling was pointing.

Li Jin was carrying a bowl of fried rice out of the kitchen. The sleeves of his white shirt were neatly rolled up to his elbows, revealing his strong forearms. He had a dark brown leather apron tied around his waist. Wow, he actually had a kind of ascetic artisan vibe.

As he bent down to place the fried rice on the customer's table, the light fell on his profile, outlining a sharp yet serene profile.

Niu Ling was still immersed in the world of the dream girl, muttering to herself, "It's over, I will marry no one but him in this life, Cheng Hao is no longer good enough for me."

She didn't notice that Cheng Hao was passing by behind her when she said those words. Hearing her words, he paused slightly, glanced coldly at the Hao Zai Lai restaurant, then pursed his lips and walked away without looking back.

Li Jin, who was inside the shop, had already noticed the people at the door. As he straightened up, his gaze naturally swept across the doorway and met Wang Yao's calm gaze. Their eyes briefly met in the air.

Unlike Wang Yao's composure, Niu Ling excitedly grabbed Wang Yao's arm again, "Did you see that? He's looking this way!"

Wang Yao pulled her arm away again, dragging Niu Ling towards the store, and said through gritted teeth, "He's just an ordinary man, what's there to get excited about? If you shout any louder, the whole street will know you're a lovesick fool."

Niu Ling exclaimed in disbelief, "An ordinary man? You call this an ordinary man?"

Wang Yao choked. Okay, it's not exactly ordinary, but it's definitely not that exaggerated.

"Brother Li, you've worked hard." After entering the shop, Wang Yao smiled politely at Li Jin: "You shouldn't have to do these things. You can just sit down and rest."

Li Jin frowned. He didn't like Wang Yao being too polite to him, but what Wang Yao said wasn't wrong, so he could only mutter in a low voice, "No trouble at all."

Why are you suddenly unhappy?

Wang Yao didn't understand, and subconsciously raised her hand to scratch her head. However, she didn't expect that after a day of classes, the little bun at the back of her head was already on the verge of falling off from scratching. Now, with another scratch, it finally couldn't bear the weight and the rubber band snapped with a "snap," and the little bun completely fell apart.

Wang Yao was even more bewildered when her hair came undone without warning. The messy and fluffy hair made her look like a pitiful, disheveled puppy.

Li Jin found it amusing, but Wang Yao was embarrassed. She quickly lowered her head and walked briskly towards the kitchen, leaving behind the infatuated Niu Ling and the detached but clear-headed Sun Min.
