Chapter 40 Why do I feel so nauseous?
Su Niannian nodded, then shook her head.
It had the same kind of excitement a fan feels when they meet their idol.
Lin Wan was a prominent figure at Peking University back then, a talented woman from the Chinese Department. Growing up in a scholarly family, she was influenced by her surroundings and was not only skilled in chess, but also had extraordinary literary attainments.
As a third-year Chinese literature major, how could Su Niannian not know Lin Wan?
"I am also a student in the Chinese Department of Peking University. I heard about Professor Lin Wan's achievements when I enrolled and I have great respect for her talent."
Xie Siyan looked pleasantly surprised: "I didn't expect to run into my mother's classmate so soon after returning to the country. We really are destined to meet."
Su Niannian said with a smile, "Indeed, our professor even used Lin Wan's articles published during her university years as examples in class. I'm also secretly hoping to have the opportunity to meet Professor Lin."
Xie Siyan had a premonition that her mother would like Miss Su.
My younger sister is still missing. My mother is deeply troubled and depressed, and her health is deteriorating.
If I introduce Miss Su to my mother, the two of them share similar interests and will surely have a lot to talk about.
Would this make the mother feel better?
Thinking of this.
Xie Siyan took out his phone, wanting to exchange contact information with Su Niannian.
"Ms. Su, would it be convenient if we could add each other on WeChat? I can introduce you to my mother later; I think she would really like to meet you."
Upon hearing this, Su Niannian immediately took out her phone, pulled up the WeChat QR code, and held it up in front of Xie Siyan.
"It's an honor to know Ms. Lin Wan. Dr. Xie, please add me."
At this moment, Su Niannian was like a little fan who was about to meet her idol.
Xie Siyan added Su Niannian as a friend.
He put away his phone, looked up, and his dark eyes were filled with turbulent emotions.
It was as if he saw his younger sister through the girl in front of him.
If my little sister were still alive.
By now, she should be about the same age as the girl in front of me.
Will she still cling to him like she did when he was little, her small figure following him wherever he goes?
“Miss Su, it’s fate that we met today. Calling me Dr. Xie is too formal. Please call me Brother Xie from now on.”
Su Niannian agreed, and she smiled and nodded in agreement: "Okay, thank you, Brother."
Xie Siyan was slightly stunned. In a daze, he seemed to see Yao Yao through Su Niannian, and his eyes involuntarily reddened.
He remained in the same position, but the turmoil in his heart lingered for a long time.
---
The next day.
Grandma Su's surgery proceeded smoothly. The elderly woman was lying on a mobile bed, about to be wheeled into the operating room. Su Niannian held her grandmother's hand and stayed by her side the whole time.
Although Xie Siyan had reassured Grandma Su before the surgery, assuring her that it was just a minor operation and that she would wake up after a nap and the surgery would be over.
But as people get older, they inevitably feel fear about surgery. Grandma Su was afraid that something might happen to her and she wouldn't be able to come out of the operating room.
He held Su Niannian's hand and gave her instructions for a long time starting in the morning.
He gave me detailed instructions on everything, big and small.
Just as she was about to be wheeled into the operating room, Grandma Su lay on the bed, her gaze fixed on Gu Yuheng.
“Mr. Gu, Niannian has always been a soft-hearted child who is easily bullied. I’m so old and I don’t have many other attachments, but I can’t let go of this child. I’ll have to trouble you to take care of her from now on.”
Gu Yuheng was a meticulous man and could easily see the old woman's concerns. He walked to the bedside and looked at her, comforting her, "Grandma, I understand what you're saying. I will take care of Niannian."
Su Niannian held her grandmother's hand tightly: "Grandma, don't think too much. I'll wait for you outside."
"Grandma will listen to Niannian." Hearing the nurse's urging voice, Grandma Su finally said, "Niannian, you must keep the jade Buddha that you always carry with you safe. You can't lose it. It's very important to you, you know?"
Su Niannian nodded: "Grandma, don't worry, I always remember you telling me that it was my talisman. Because of its protection, I was able to grow up safely. I will definitely protect it well."
Grandma Su was relieved to enter the operating room after hearing her granddaughter's assurance.
Just as Xie Siyan had said, the surgery went very smoothly. After Grandma Su came out of the operating room, she was placed in the ICU for observation for a day. Her vital signs were stable and all indicators were normal. The next day, after regaining consciousness, she was transferred to a regular ward.
Gu Yuheng hired professional nurses to take care of the patient one-on-one, providing meticulous and considerate care, and also helping the patient with postoperative recovery training.
On the fifth day after the surgery, Grandma Su was discharged from the hospital after a check-up.
Gu Yuheng had already arranged for someone to prepare an apartment and arrange it according to the layout suitable for the elderly. After Grandma Su was discharged from the hospital, he would bring her over to settle in.
He didn't mention any of this to Su Niannian; he had been doing it quietly all along. When Su Niannian found out, she was deeply moved.
He was so thoughtful and kind, so kind that she didn't know how to repay him.
Su Niannian has been staying by her grandmother's side these past few days. It would be a lie to say she wasn't worried. In just one week, her little face has become noticeably thinner.
She wanted to stay and take care of her, Gu Yuheng said, looking at her somewhat haggard face.
“Sister Li used to be a nurse at a top-tier hospital and has extensive nursing experience. She’s much more professional than you in taking care of Grandma here, so you can rest assured.”
Grandma Su knew her granddaughter was filial, but seeing how hard she had worked all these days, her eyes were filled with heartache.
"Niannian, Xiao Li is taking care of Grandma here, so you don't need to worry. You should go back and rest quickly, otherwise Grandma won't be able to rest easy and recover properly."
Since Grandma Su said that, Su Niannian had no choice but to go back to the villa with Gu Yuheng.
------
After resting at home for two days, Su Niannian went back to work. Nothing much happened at the company during her absence.
Su Niannian had a very low profile; apart from her mentor, Sister Zhang, few of her colleagues noticed that someone was missing.
Sister Zhang was unaware of her relationship with Gu Yuheng. The fact that an intern had taken nearly half a month off without needing a hospital certificate made her wonder who was behind Su Niannian.
But she's a veteran in the workplace and would never be foolish enough to pry into the details.
But some people just can't keep secrets.
A female employee who had recently joined the company noticed that Su Niannian hadn't been seen for several days and had suddenly reappeared.
It was as if they had a back door open, allowing them to move freely without any obstacles.
He said sarcastically to Su Niannian, who was pouring water in the tea room, "This class can come and go as they please, unlike us who need a hospital certificate to ask for a day off. I wonder which big shot they've hooked up with. They've even opened the back door to the bed."
After Su Niannian realized the meaning behind her words, a hint of anger rose in her almond-shaped eyes as she stared at her and said, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
Shen Na chuckled and walked up to Su Niannian.
The scent of her perfume permeated Su Niannian's nose.
Su Niannian felt an unusually pungent smell that made her nauseous, and her stomach churned.
She quickly grabbed her water glass and took a big gulp to suppress the nausea.
Why do I feel so nauseous?
