"No wonder I often see the two of them together."
Are they on good terms?
Are they on good terms? Ma Lele recalled her observations of the two over the past few years and finally came to this conclusion.
"They're alright. They usually just go to and from school together, and I've never really seen them play together. Hmm... they seem like siblings?"
Ma Lele's last sentence was clearly not very confident, but it seems to be the best explanation for their relationship.
Upon hearing this, the girls in the dormitory became even more excited.
"Oh, you mean childhood sweethearts? Are they related by blood?"
Hearing the phrase "childhood sweethearts," Ma Lele felt inexplicably guilty. She hurriedly explained, "This is just my personal feeling; I don't really know what it's like."
After that sentence, the girls' dormitory gradually fell silent. After a few more brief discussions, they settled into quiet. However, this silence was only superficial; in the hearts of the eight people in the dormitory, the fire of gossip was still burning quietly, and along with the summer heat, it would keep them awake for a long time.
Meanwhile, in the boys' dormitory on the other side, the related discussions were more open.
"So Chen Bing is dating that girl named Shang something now?"
“Of course! I saw them going to and from school together every day when I was in elementary school.” Cai Kunnan answered decisively after hearing his bunkmate Ma Shaolong’s question.
"Oh, I see," Ma Shaolong said twice, his tone revealing a hint of undisguised joy.
"Chen Bing is so lucky. He's won over one of the prettiest girls in the class."
No sooner had the person in bunk number three finished speaking than the person in bunk number four above him retorted, "Is Shang Yunmiao the prettiest? I think the girl who read the list on the podium yesterday was prettier."
"Is he the one who got his military training uniforms handed out with Brother Long?"
"Yes, yes, the one named Zhang Xinyu."
"Don't you think her face is too long?"
"But she has a great temperament, and she's fair-skinned and clean-cut."
"Isn't Shang Yunmiao the same?"
Just as the two were arguing until their throats were dry, a light, airy voice came from shop number eight.
"You all don't understand, being slightly chubby is the most attractive. I think the girl in the second row with pigtails is pretty."
Ma Shaolong looked up into the darkness and saw that the person speaking was Cai Shichen, who had been selling diary-writing services in the classroom during evening self-study. In the dim light, Cai Shichen continued, "Those two girls are too thin. They're not as good as the one in the third row with pigtails."
"Zhang Anran."
"You know him?" Cai Shichen perked up a bit and asked curiously, his eyes widening.
“I was her elementary school classmate. Don’t date her; she has a boyfriend.”
Upon hearing this, Cai Shichen became even more excited. He quickly replied in an excited tone, "It's good to have a partner! You guys just don't understand!"
The crowd couldn't understand Cai Shichen's idea. After a moment of silence, they immediately started ranking the girls in the class by their looks.
It's strange, but a group of junior high school students might be interested in girls' looks, but they usually wouldn't be so open about ranking them by looks, especially since it's only been two days since school started and most of them don't even know each other's names.
Perhaps it was the fact that Chen Bing and Shang Yunmiao left side by side tonight that piqued their interest, or perhaps it was because there were so many beautiful girls in Class 1 of Grade 7, each with their own unique charm, or perhaps it was because there were two or three carefree individuals in this dormitory who were leading the conversation without much concern for the relationship.
In short, their discussion was very heated.
Ultimately, based on the principle of one person, one vote, Dorm 213 cast their votes to rank the girls by looks.
Shang Yunmiao received three votes (Cai Kunnan, Shop No. 3, Shop No. 5).
Zhang Xinyu received two votes (Ma Shaolong, No. 4 Shop).
Zhang Anran received one vote (by Cai Shichen).
Li Lingtong, one vote (slot number two)
Ma Lele, one ticket (shop number seven)
Why aren't you asleep yet?
Just as the voting results were being tallied, a middle-aged woman's voice suddenly came from outside the dormitory. Everyone looked out through the glass door and saw that it was the dormitory supervisor on patrol.
"I won't deduct points for the first time, so go to sleep quietly and don't talk anymore."
After this unexpected turn of events, no one dared to speak. They simply kept their mouths shut and mentally reviewed the recent ranking of appearances.
Nothing was said that night.
The next day, Chen Bing told Yun Xuan in advance that she didn't need to pick them up at noon, and that they would take care of their own lunch and dinner.
So, the two of them spent most of the day at school, which saved Yunxuan the trouble of having to make four trips to and from school every day. Even though she doesn't have much to do these days and the school is close to home, it's still quite tiring.
As for Shang Yunmiao, with Chen Bing by her side, not going home for a day wasn't a big deal. However, one thing made her slightly uncomfortable: her clothes were a little damp with sweat due to military training.
If it were just discomfort, that would be fine. The only thing this clean girl was afraid of was smells. To prevent Chen Bing from smelling any odor, she deliberately kept her distance from him all day.
However, there were times when she couldn't maintain it. For example, during the first evening self-study session, Fang Anmin suddenly came to the classroom and called her and Chen Bing to his office alone.
Throughout the journey, Chen Bing stayed close to her and kept turning around to talk to her.
If I get this close, he'll definitely smell whatever's on me. But I can't leave, or I'll hurt Chen Bing's feelings.
In the midst of their struggle, the two arrived at Fang Anmin's small office.
After sitting down in his chair, Fang Anmin first exchanged a few pleasantries with the two of them. Besides asking how their military training was going and whether they were settling in at school, he also inquired about how Teacher Yunxuan was doing at home.
Shang Yunmiao answered these questions one by one. Because her mother often brought her to school since she was a child, Shang Yunmiao remembered most of her teachers, and the teachers remembered her as well.
Therefore, when she talked to Fang Anmin, she felt more like she was chatting with an elder, an uncle or aunt, rather than a student and a teacher.
After exchanging a few pleasantries, Fang Anmin took out a stack of letters from the table and began to discuss the day's business.
"I took some time today to look at the diaries you handed in yesterday. You both wrote very well, so I'm thinking of having you two come up on stage on Friday, how about that?"
Upon hearing this, Shang Yunmiao looked up and glanced at Chen Bing beside her.
"It's possible, but surely no more than two students can get in from one class, teacher?"
Fang Anmin smiled and then replied, "Our class and Class Two only need one person to read their feelings about military training, but since you were the first to enter the university, the teacher wants you to go on stage as a representative of the new students."
