Chapter 182 Evening

"You haven't noticed me, but we can see your classroom right from our dorm balcony..." Liu Xiaoxiao only said half of this sentence, and Shang Yunmiao panicked a little.

Does that mean that Chen Bing saw everything he and Chen Bing did in the classroom during lunch break every day?

No, no, how could anyone be so bored as to stay on the balcony and spy on others?

Moreover, looking back, Chen Bing and I didn't do anything strange during our lunch break. We just sat together discussing our studies and chatting. There was nothing to be afraid of.

"Besides that, I would occasionally see the two of you together on the playground or in the hallways."

"Wow, they're such good friends." Before Shang Yunmiao could react, Liu Yue happily said, "Mom was worried that they were too shy to play together at school, but it turns out she was just worrying for nothing."

As the saying goes, what is said without intention may be taken to heart by the listener. Although Liu Yue only said it casually, the two parties involved did not think so.

Chen Bing looked at Xiao Shang with a rather teasing gaze, while Xiao Shang lowered his head shyly, avoiding eye contact with him.

Because that's really how it was for the first few days of school, but due to a small change, that strange state didn't last.

Liu Yue didn't notice anything unusual about Chen Bing and the other person, and continued talking about them in a rather cheerful tone. From their interactions at home to how they met as children, she kept talking nonstop.

Liu Xiaoxiao glanced thoughtfully at the two people on her left, but remained silent and did not offer any opinions.

In this atmosphere, guided by Liu Yue, the group first went to the mall to browse around and bought a lot of clothes, accessories, and groceries for dinner. They finally returned home around six or seven o'clock in the afternoon.

To Chen Bing's slight surprise, although he said as usual that he didn't need anything, Liu Yue still bought him a lot of things in a semi-forceful manner.

I already said I didn't need it, why did you still buy it? Sister Yue seems a little too enthusiastic towards me today, could it be that she discovered something amazing?

After recalling the things she didn't want others to see, and realizing they were indeed hidden in Bai Shi's house, Chen Bing breathed a sigh of relief.

But what is the reason for that?

After racking his brains for a long time, Chen Bing couldn't help but mock himself in his heart.

Honestly, why are you so suspicious? Does a mother need a reason to be good to her son?

With that thought in mind, Chen Bing shook off her inner turmoil and put on a rather cheerful demeanor, going forward to help Liu Yue carry the items from the trunk into the house one by one.

When he came in, he found that Old Chen had returned home at some point and was now sitting in the living room with his legs crossed, playing a racing game with a controller in his hand.

This doesn't make sense. It's one thing for this kid not to come and help right away, but why is he acting like such a big shot?

Liu Yue quickly answered his doubts with her actions. The beautiful mother walked behind her husband, gently rubbed his shoulder, and asked softly, "Is the barbecue grill ready?"

"Roar!" Chen Shichao's shout was full of energy, as if he had made some great contribution.

Upon hearing this, Liu Yue smiled and leaned close to his ear, whispering something to him. Then she returned to Chen Bing and the other two and began sorting the items they had bought.

Oh, so Old Chen hasn't been idle at home either; he's working hard right now. I knew it! He's such a henpecked husband; how could he leave his wife and kids to work so hard moving things while he does nothing?

"Hello, Uncle, it's been a long time."

Good evening, Uncle.

"Alright, alright, hello everyone. Uncle will be playing games and won't be able to greet you."

After nodding to the two girls, Chen Shichao turned back to focus on his race track, which, along with his game music, became the backdrop of the living room.

Without bothering Old Chen any further, Chen Bing helped Liu Yue move the food she wanted to eat that evening to the backyard.

Once you step out the back door, you can see many unfamiliar things placed among the pavilion, lawn, stone slabs, and small pond.

For example, the barbecue grill, wooden benches, tables and chairs, and the wooden bucket filled with watermelon... Overall, it looks quite nice.

"How about we have barbecue tonight? When I went to Pengcheng with your Uncle Chen before, I saw that the barbecue there was really interesting and delicious." Liu Yue said, while taking the two girls' hands to show them the things being prepared.

The so-called Pengcheng barbecue is actually quite similar to the later popular Zizhou barbecue. Both involve diners grilling half of the skewers themselves and then eating them wrapped in a flatbread. If there's any difference, Chen Bing thinks it's mainly in the flatbread, scallions, and dipping sauce.

Pengcheng barbecue pancakes are larger and thinner, and after being rolled up with barbecue filling, they are not baked on the fire again. Furthermore, they are not served with dipping sauce, and the pancakes are not filled with the scallions characteristic of Shandong province.

Thinking about the differences between the two barbecue restaurants, tears involuntarily streamed down Chen Bing's face.

Damn, the more I think about it, the hungrier I get.

After wiping away the tears from the corner of her mouth, Chen Bing asked when the "exam" would begin.

After learning that they still needed to prepare some skewers, Chen Bing watched the three women excitedly studying the barbecue grill together. After thinking for a moment, she went home alone to find something to eat.

I was planning to just grab a bite and head back, but Chen Shichao called me over halfway there to share some food.

After finishing his snacks, the other person asked him to play games together for a while, and Chen Bing unconsciously lingered there.

When I came to my senses, I realized that more than an hour had passed.

After calming down, the father and son returned to the backyard together, and in front of the skewers that were already mostly prepared, Liu Yue gave them a good scolding.

"All he does is play video games; he never thinks about helping out."

Feeling guilty, the two quickly apologized and then took on the remaining work.

And so, around nine o'clock that evening, the first batch of skewers was finally placed on the grill.

While diligently grilling skewers, Chef Chen asked his assistant, Xiao Chen, to call over some customers.

Upon receiving the order, Xiao Chen immediately put down the towel in his hand, went to the small pool next to him, and called the three ladies who were setting off fireworks back.

With plates of cold dishes and grilled skewers being served, dinner for the day finally began.

A cool, early autumn breeze gently swept past the pavilion, while the sizzling charcoal fire danced nearby, adding a touch of warmth to the night. The aroma of roasting meat filled the air, and the rustling bushes seemed to provide accompaniment to this beautiful evening.

The soft, warm light from the pavilion illuminated their faces. They savored the food and chatted about many interesting things, each moment filled with happiness and contentment.

"Come on, pretty girls, I'll teach you the authentic way to eat Pengcheng barbecue." Liu Yue held a few skewers in her hand, first dipping them in barbecue sauce, then rolling them up with a stack of flatbread, and that was it.

After the two girls tried it, they both expressed their approval of this way of eating.
