Chapter 65 The Sky of My Childhood

On the first day of school, there were no formal classes. The three teachers—Chinese, Math, and Moral Education—took turns entering the classroom, either to say a few words or to let the students read quietly.

During breaks, students were allowed to move around freely, but apart from those going to the toilet, most students who were still unfamiliar with the new environment didn't leave their seats.

During that time, Chen Bing only took Shang Yunmiao to the restroom once; the rest of the time, she remained seated. She would either read the book she had brought, play Sudoku for a while, or chat with Shang Yunmiao or Zhang Yuan.

The morning passed quickly.

Unlike kindergartens, primary schools dismiss students at noon.

Considering it was the first day of school, the teachers did not simply wave the students away after school. Instead, they waited for the parents to come and pick them up, as is the usual practice on the first day of school.

Liu Yue arrived relatively early, accompanied by Yun Xuan, whom she had met at the school gate.

Just like elementary school students take a break at noon, Yunxuan, a middle school teacher, also gets a break during this time.

It was the first day of school, and it wouldn't be right to let someone else take care of the child's commute. So, Yunxuan rushed over to pick up her daughter during her lunch break.

After being picked up by their two mothers and taken home for a meal and a rest, the two were brought back in the afternoon.

This time, however, the parents were not allowed to enter the school. Chen Bing led Shang Yunmiao through the short distance from the school gate to the classroom.

Chen Bing had barely entered the classroom and hadn't even sat down when she heard someone call her name.

He turned around to look at the source of the sound, and saw two girls with pigtails waving to him from a distance.

Chen Bing remembered these two people; they lived in the same neighborhood as him and occasionally hung out together. But he didn't know their names very well, only that one of them had the nickname Tongtong and the other Yueyue.

After waving to them, Chen Bing sat down in her seat.

He had just put down his backpack and hadn't even had time to unzip it when he heard someone call his name again.

This time it was a boy, from the same class as me in kindergarten.

Chen Bing had just greeted him when she heard someone calling her name again. The calls came one after another like dominoes, and there seemed to be at least six or seven voices calling her.

To be honest, this scene is a bit eerie. Usually, this kind of thing happens in horror movies, historical dramas about uprisings, or concerts. But it's highly unlikely to happen in a first-grade classroom.

Chen Bing had some recollection of the people who called him, and knew that they were just greeting someone he recognized in class.

But how come so many people know me?

Chen Bing thought about it and suddenly realized that he still didn't know himself well enough.

Imagine how striking a person with the mind of an adult would be among a group of children. In your childhood group, or kindergarten class, you might not remember most of the children, but you'd definitely still remember the most striking, mature, intelligent, and charismatic leader.

And Chen Bing is that kind of person.

Every child who had interacted with or played with him had a deep impression of him. Therefore, it's not hard to understand why the children in Class One reacted this way after hearing the familiar name "Chen Bing" and seeing him.

As more and more people gathered around Chen Bing, more and more kids who didn't know Chen Bing but were just following the trend came to this place.

Humans are creatures who like to follow the crowd; even when the school bell rang, the gathered crowd did not disperse.

The scene was truly exaggerated. Shang Yunmiao, who was sitting to the side, was so frightened by what she saw that she couldn't lift her head.

After regaining her senses, Chen Bing, the protagonist of the incident, immediately stood up while protecting Shang Yunmiao.

"Alright, alright, everyone. Class has started now. Anyone who doesn't want to get yelled at by the teacher, get back to your seats before I count to three!"

"one two three!"

Mr. Chen was a respectable man, and he still had some face in front of the group of mischievous children.

As he raised his hand to count down, the children scattered and hurriedly returned to their seats before he could count to three.

After doing all this, Chen Bing breathed a sigh of relief and sat down.

"Were you scared?" The first thing to do after sitting down was, of course, to check if his little follower had been frightened.

Seeing the crowd dispersed by Chen Bing, Shang Yunmiao also breathed a sigh of relief. She straightened up and told Chen Bing that everything was alright, then looked at her with admiration.

Chen Bing is amazing; she can command so many people.

After receiving the little girl's adoring gaze, Chen Bing felt quite pleased with himself. He coughed twice in a serious manner, then sat up straight, behaving like a well-behaved child.

Not long after that incident, the middle-aged female teacher I had seen that morning walked into the classroom.

She wore red-rimmed glasses and was quite thin. Her sparse hair was tied into a ponytail with a red hair tie, giving her a shrewd and mean appearance.

She teaches Chinese in this class and probably also serves as the homeroom teacher.

Compared to Yunxuan's gentle and warm nature, she is the complete opposite in her role as a teacher.

So why is she teaching first-grade students? She looks more like a female math teacher from a high school.

After the teacher came in, she didn't force the class to study on their own like she did in the morning. Instead, she immediately asked everyone to take out their textbooks and got into class mode.

There wasn't even a self-introduction. Is this some kind of decisive action? Or is it simply that they think it's pointless to talk to these clueless little kids?

Without much thought, Chen Bing opened her textbook, pretended to listen to the lesson for a while, and then her mind wandered off.

The first class period passed quickly, and the second math class followed immediately.

After two classes, Chen Bing's overall feeling could be described in one word—bored.

The first grade curriculum is not interesting, and it's not even as fun as kindergarten.

Since staying here is a waste of time anyway, why not take a leave of absence?

"Chen Bing, I need to go to the toilet." Just as he was lost in thought, Shang Yunmiao grabbed the hem of his clothes and whispered to him, bringing her face close to his.

Hmm...that's true. If I leave, who will take care of this little goofball?

After the second period, it was time for a long break. After nearly a day of getting to know each other, the first-year students, who were new to the school, gradually became bolder and dared to run out to play during the break.

Chen Bing also took advantage of this time to take Shang Yunmiao out to use the restroom.

Watching the little girl timidly head towards the toilet, Chen Bing withdrew her gaze and leaned against the wall, waiting quietly.

A few white clouds dotted the blue sky, and children of all grades ran and played freely on the concrete playground. Their silvery laughter filled the air.

Was the sky this blue when I was a child?
