Side Story (13): The Years We Never Met

Surprisingly, after opening the bedroom door, there was a wide road.

It looks familiar; it's on the street in front of the apartment complex where Shiraishi lives. Look, isn't that familiar convenience store open across the street?

A large black dog with its tongue lolling out ran across the street and barked twice at Chen Bing.

In my dream, would I let you bully me?

Chen Bing barked back at the big black dog, its barks sounding quite powerful.

The big black dog was no match for Chen Bing and slunk away.

While Chen Bing smiled smugly, he was also a little afraid that others might have seen him barking like a dog. Even in his dreams, Master Chen was very concerned about his image.

After standing there awkwardly for a while, Chen Bing prepared to leave. She then imagined her honeymoon with Xiao Shang and tried to travel back to that time to enjoy it.

Unfortunately, time travel seems to be a passive skill; at least Chen Bing can't travel through time using just her imagination.

He could only turn around and make the best of it, thinking of going home to see what Xiao Xiaoshang was doing at that moment.

As soon as Chen Bing turned around, she saw a cute little girl running out of the residential area. She seemed to be holding a small wallet and was constantly looking at the road conditions.

When she got closer, Chen Bing realized that she was Xiao Shang, the classmate he had been longing for.

They look so young, probably still in kindergarten.

Chen Bing was overjoyed to see such a cute little girl and wanted to hug her and give her a good squeeze.

Unfortunately, the little girl walked quite fast, and I couldn't keep up with her from behind. I could only watch helplessly as she crossed the road and went into the convenience store on the other side.

Fortunately, she soon came out of the convenience store again, seemingly holding a book in her hand.

You're reading books at such a young age? I don't remember you being so naive back then, only able to understand picture books.

Without much thought, Chen Bing greeted Shang Yunmiao as she returned, thinking to herself, "Now you can't escape."

When the two were less than five steps apart, Chen Bing suddenly realized that a vehicle was speeding towards them from the left. The blinding light made him unable to open his eyes, and it also startled Shang Yunmiao, who was standing in front of him, so much so that she froze on the spot.

"careful!"

Even though it was a dream, Chen Bing still lunged forward and successfully rescued Shang Yunmiao from in front of the car.

"Phew... Little Shang, I have to criticize you for this. It's not that you need to concentrate when crossing the street, but how can someone your age cross the street alone?"

Patting the little girl's head in his arms, Chen Bing casually scolded her.

I remember when I was four or five years old after my rebirth, something similar happened, but back then the car hit a stray dog, and Shang Yunmiao was quite a distance away from the accident scene.

Even so, she was so frightened that she cried, and it was only thanks to my timely arrival that she was able to comfort her.

Yes, just like now, I'm so scared I'm crying.

"Waaah... But, but brother, Mom needs this book to prepare her lessons..."

"What?" Chen Bing was full of questions. She glanced at the book "Two Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" that Shang Yunmiao was holding in her arms and then realized what the little girl meant.

"That's still not allowed..."

Wait, why would I dream about this? I've never encountered anything like this before, so why would I make this connection?

The cover of this book, *Two Thousand Leagues Under the Sea*, is rather funny. Compared to the People's Education Press edition I used in junior high school, this one is clearly aimed at children.

The cover features vibrant colors, large fonts, an adorable shark, and the words "Pinyin Illustrated Edition" in white on a red background.

Chen Bing remembered; he had seen this book before, back in his junior high school days, when Yun Xuan was holding it during class…

Before he could think any further, Chen Bing suddenly realized that Shang Yunmiao was gone from his arms, and the surrounding environment had changed.

He was in a classroom at Baishi No. 1 Middle School, and the lively break time left him somewhat bewildered.

Has it changed that much?

Elementary school? We just skipped it like that?

Chen Bing looked around and was surprised to find a familiar face – Shang Yunmiao.

At this moment, she was chatting with... uh... yes, Zhang Xinyu, Ma Lele and others, every smile and frown exuding youthful vitality.

Oh, so this is what this little girl was like in junior high school. I'd almost forgotten after all this time.

After looking her over a few more times, Chen Bing thought that although junior high school was a bit of a struggle, it was almost there. Should she take off her pants and start sticking her legs out?

After pondering it for a while, Chen Bing concluded that he couldn't just act recklessly because it was a dream; it was a matter of basic human decency.

Very good, a new bottom line has emerged.

"Bing-ge! Let's go play basketball!" A pair of hands patted his shoulders. Chen Bing turned around and recognized the guy as... uh... the sports committee member! That's right, the sports committee member. I'm so sorry I forgot your name.

Seeing Chen Bing sitting there without reacting for a while, the sports committee member… oh wait, it was Ma Shaolong. He remembered. Ma Shaolong gave a lewd smile, then gestured with his mouth towards Shang Yunmiao's direction, and said, "Liking someone doesn't mean you have to look at them every day. Look at me, I don't stare at my girlfriend Xinyu every day. Listen to me, you can't think about a girl all the time when you're pursuing her, or you'll look like a clown. Back then, I won Xinyu over with a little push and pull… Hey, where are you going?"

Chen Bing felt that her dream was a bit absurd, because Ma Shaolong had already caught up with Zhang Xinyu.

"Hey, Xiao Shang."

Shang Yunmiao, who was chatting with someone, looked up and glanced at Chen Bing with a puzzled look, as if wondering if anyone else in the class had "Shang" in their name besides herself. Then, she tilted her head cutely and asked, "Are you calling me?"

He actually pretended not to know me... I can't resist, I want to mess around with him.

"Come out with me for a moment."

Thinking that she couldn't do anything reckless in front of others, Chen Bing called Shang Yunmiao out of the classroom, and the world suddenly became quiet. Chen Bing took the opportunity to pin Shang Yunmiao against the wall and asked her nervous and shy expression, "Don't you recognize me?"

"You...you mustn't do this...or I'll tell the teacher..."

Tsk, snitching. This little merchant is too wicked. I'll definitely bully him properly later.

"What? You don't recognize me in your dream? That's ridiculous. Even if it's the subconscious, it's still absurd."

I casually pinched Xiao Shang's cheeks twice, but since it was a dream, I couldn't feel anything.

In her panic, Shang Yunmiao looked at Chen Bing nervously. Just then, she suddenly realized that although Chen Bing was still roughly the same, her strong and cynical demeanor was gradually overlapping with someone in her memory.

"Sigh, you, you look just like that brother who saved me and then disappeared back then..."

"Saved you? What do you mean? You came with me from that time too?"

"What are you two doing?!"

Suddenly, a sharp shout came from above. Chen Bing looked up and saw that her former high school grade director had suddenly appeared.

Hey bro, be more professional. Aren't you a high school teacher? Why are you talking about middle school?

Before Chen Bing could finish complaining in her mind, she suddenly felt a tug on her hand.

"We need to hurry, or the teacher will catch us!"

After running with Xiao Shang for a while, when they finally reached a safe place and could breathe a sigh of relief, Chen Bing discovered that her clothes had turned into Shangping Experimental School uniform, and the surrounding environment had also changed to look like it did in high school.

Sure, going from junior high to high school is a pretty good transition. To be honest, I'm subconsciously kind of awesome.
