Side Story (6): Back to the Past

After staring blankly at the passing figure for a while, the scholar Feng Chen could hardly believe his eyes.

"Alright, alright, what's so interesting outside? Snap out of it, let's get back to class." Teacher Feng glanced at the person who had been making a fuss, then patted the book to signal everyone to focus.

The person who was pointed out by the teacher was not quite sure about their discovery, and since it was during class, they ultimately did not make a fuss.

Thanks to his silence, Chen Bing was able to leisurely stroll around Baishi No. 1 Middle School with Shang Yunmiao.

They strolled around the synthetic track for a long time, just like they used to do in PE class, and admired the mimosa tree that had been planted next to the school building back then. Finally, they sat on a bench by the roadside and watched the boys playing basketball on the court for a while.

The sunlight brushed past the top of the sky, casting a pale, dusky glow on the western horizon. Glancing at the time, seeing it was already past five, Chen Bing decided to leave with Shang Yunmiao.

However, before leaving, he suddenly remembered something.

Back when he was in junior high school, one evening after self-study, he and Xiao Shang witnessed someone skipping class and crawling through a wall, only to get stuck inside.

I don't know if that hole is still there.

Chen Bing pondered, thinking that since it wasn't far, he might as well go and take a look, just to satisfy his curiosity.

After thinking it over, he made the decision on his own without asking Shang Yunmiao's opinion, and led her to a corner of the campus.

Upon arrival, Chen Bing couldn't remember the exact location and wandered around for quite a while without finding it.

"Chen Bing, what are you looking for?" Shang Yunmiao, who had been following him, asked curiously when she saw Chen Bing searching so intently.

"Find a suitable place to do business." Making things up on the spot had become a habit for Chen Bing. Without even looking up, he started spouting nonsense.

Shang Yunmiao, who initially believed him, looked at him in disbelief, but after realizing that Chen Bing was talking nonsense, her cheeks flushed.

What? Chen Bingzhen is really good at talking nonsense. The key is that she always looks so serious when she talks nonsense, making it impossible for people to tell whether she is sincere or not.

Chen Bing sighed after circling around for a while without finding the hole, thinking it was probably blocked. Many things were indeed still the same as he remembered, but change was inevitable.

So, does something change more the longer it's been around?

For no apparent reason, Chen Bing suddenly felt like going home to visit. This home didn't refer to Shang Ping's home, but rather the home she had in Baishi when she was in elementary school, or even earlier, her home in Baixiang Village.

"Why don't we go home and visit?" Chen Bing, filled with sadness, turned to Shang Yunmiao and said.

"Go home? What for?" Shang Yunmiao's mind was still stuck on Chen Bing's nonsense, so when she heard him say he wanted to go home, she naturally misunderstood.

"What else can I do? I'll go home and visit. It's been so long since I've been back. I'll go see how things are there."

Half-believing and half-doubting, they followed Chen Bing back to the familiar apartment building, and the two first went to Shang Yunmiao's home.

The layout and furnishings here are pretty much the same as I remember, but it lacks the feel of everyday life.

Chen Bing strolled leisurely to Shang Yunmiao's room, looking around again and again.

At this moment, Shang Yunmiao followed him in, looking at Chen Bing with suspicion, as if asking Chen Bing what he was going to do.

"Come to think of it, I've never slept in this bed before. What's it like sleeping here?"

After leaving those words, Chen Bing sat on Shang Yunmiao's old bed, swayed slightly to feel the softness of the mattress, and then lay down with his arms outstretched.

"I don't feel anything, aren't all beds the same?"

"No, no." Chen Bing shook her head, and after carefully examining the bed, replied, "This bed gives me a feeling of regret."

"What's there to regret?"

"It's a pity I didn't sleep here with you back then, otherwise it would have been really exciting."

Upon hearing such unconventional words, Shang Yunmiao blushed at first, but then she remembered that she and Chen Bing were both married adults, so she didn't think there was anything wrong with it.

Well, there is something to it. Although Shang Yunmiao is old enough, she is still quite immature psychologically.

She hesitated for a moment, then took off her shoes, got into bed, and rested her head on Chen Bing's arm.

"I remember, we used to take naps together."

"No, they all slept in my house, in my bed. I've never taken a nap in this bed."

After saying that, as if to make up for past regrets, Chen Bing closed her eyes, looking like she was about to go to sleep.

Seeing this, Shang Yunmiao, who was resting her head on his arm, was a little at a loss. She didn't know if Chen Bing really wanted to sleep. After thinking for a while, the girl chose to close her eyes, lean against Chen Bing's chest, and let him do whatever he wanted.

Just a few seconds after she closed her eyes, Chen Bing opened them again and said in a serious tone, "An unfamiliar ceiling."

"Alright, wake up, come with me somewhere else." Patting her bottom, Chen Bing briskly got off the bed.

Opening her eyes angrily, Shang Yunmiao covered the spot where she had been slapped, thinking to herself, "Didn't you want to sleep, Chen Bing? It's like I'm some lazy pig who can just fall asleep anytime I want to get into bed."

Although she felt a little annoyed and dissatisfied, Shang Yunmiao, who was timid and lacked assertiveness, never dared to talk back to Chen Bing. She could only get out of bed and straighten her clothes, preparing to accompany him to the place he wanted to go.

"Oh, right, there's one more thing." Chen Bing, who was about to step out of the room, suddenly stopped and turned around to ask Shang Yunmiao, "Do you still have your middle school clothes, like your school uniform?"

Tilting her head in confusion, Shang Yunmiao didn't understand Chen Bing's meaning.

"Yes, I've kept them all."

"Great! Take it out and try it on, can I take a look?"

Shang Yunmiao was even more confused about Chen Bing's meaning. It was just a junior high school uniform, why did he want to see it?

Although she was puzzled, Shang Yunmiao answered honestly, "I brought my junior high school uniform with me to Shangping, but I don't have it at home."

Chen Bing slapped his forehead, realizing that's how it is.

Although I really wanted to see Xiao Shang in her junior high school uniform right now, since the circumstances didn't allow it, I had to wait until I got back tonight.

Seeing the slight disappointment in Chen Bing's eyes, Shang Yunmiao opened her beautiful big eyes, unaware of what he was disappointed about.

but……

"My elementary school uniform might still be here, Chen Bing, what are you doing?"

Her initially disappointed gaze suddenly brightened with hope, and Chen Bing nodded repeatedly, replying, "You have some here?"

"I guess...?" After giving an uncertain answer, Shang Yunmiao turned around, opened the wardrobe, and searched inside. In the end, she actually found it.

Wearing a plain blue and white tracksuit, just like the school uniforms of other primary and secondary schools in China, there was nothing noteworthy about it.

After taking the clothes from Shang Yunmiao, Chen Bing examined them from left to right, and even brought them close to her nose to smell them twice, despite Shang Yunmiao's troubled expression.

Hmm~ The gardenia scent unique to Xiao Shang... just kidding, it's just the smell of wardrobe preservatives.

In short, after careful examination, Chen Bing was surprised to find: "This school uniform..."
